One thing I'm starting to agree with you on is that Heckert seems to get happy feet when he wants a player and thinks another team might take him. I do like a lot of what he has done but he needs to stay put and let the draft come to him.
That said there is still a lot of time and evaluations to be done about the draft class, especially the QBs. I don't think Luck is in play at all of anyone other then the Colts but you never know. RGIII, at this point seems to be a love em or hate em type of prospect but I can't see any scenario where I'd trade up and give away picks to get him. Someone, maybe even us, will fall in love with the guy. Could be a lot of someones wanting him but I don't take him at #4 just because I need a QB, you got to fall in love with him as a future franchise QB.
That said, RGIII and Luck aren't the only QBs in this draft and as we've seen over the years QBs don't necessarily progress by the order they were drafted in. Again, evaluations need to be made but some say Tannehill is a potential franchise QB, but a little raw. Very simular to Kapernick of last year. I admit I haven't seen him a lot but from what I've seen and read, he has a big arm and is very athletic. He is not DA, he is a pretty solid QB worthy of being taken in the bottom of the first round or top of the second. Many say he is a lot better option then Locker, Ponder or some of the others taken high last year.
Just food for thought but if this staff doesn't fall in love for RGIII there could be another QB that grabs their fancy. Worst case scenario is you have McCoy who might have a low ceiling but at worst he con develop into a very good backup and hold the fort while the next guy is being mentored and the team is putting more pieces in place.
I got to say that if you think RGIII is your future then you take him but if you aren't sure about him, for any reason, there are alternatives that might work very well.
Just food for thought because it doesn't have to be RGIII or nothing if you don't think he can develop into a franchise QB.
And please, I'm not saying it should Tannehill or nothing either. But I wouldn't be adverse to bringing in a developmental guy with great potential and go with McCoy next year and let things play out in a San Diego type of way. Rogers was a late first round guy with a simular scouting analysis as Tannehill. A lot of QBs aren't NFL ready coming out of college but have NFL arms, good football smarts but need developing.
Just sayin, you don't have to put it all on the line if you don't fully believe in a guy, even if others have him rated as a top prospect. Cincy rolled the dice last year and seem to have won. They passed on Gabbert, who was said to be the most NFL ready guy who could step right in and start. Instead they took Green and counted on their scouts evaluations to be right and Grabbed Dalton in the second round.
They didn't panic and take the top rated QB, they took the guy they liked the best.
