Huh. I only see 2 maybe 3 quality starting QBs in the entire league drafted outside of the 1st round. Ouch. (jury still out on Dalton, although he barely slipped out of round 1, and Hasselbeck was pretty good in his day)

Everybody wants a brand new QB in round 1 for their struggling franchise until they receive the numbers of Bradford, Ponder or Gabbert. By the way, which of those first round picks ranked higher than McCoy on that chart? Cleveland fans aren't exactly patient with young QBs.

Why would Solon want to include the season we ran routes down field for McCoy? That would skew the yards per completion average all the way to 7.1 from 5.9, which really gets inconvenient. 1 season we ran routes down field. The next we ran slant patterns into the heavy traffic of overcrowded boxes. Hard to expect tons of YAC throwing into a crowded phone booth all year.

As for all the other QBs displayed, moral of the story? Promising young QBs going to bad franchises struggle early.

Solon, I think you're just sticking up for all your neighbors down there in Texas that wanted Steve Walsh to be the franchise QB instead of Troy Aikman as early as the very first growing pain.

It's so honorable to root for all the QBs we don't have and root against the one we did draft.

And how many playoff wins did Tim Couch, Brady Quinn and Mike Phipps combine for?

The ONLY most valuable player we've seen in Cleveland was a 13th round draft pick named Brian Sipe thanks in large to the wonderful franchise healing powers of Mike Phipps at #3 overall.

Before somebody says Bernie Kosar - he was a supplemental pick. I liked former 1st roun pick Vinny Testaverde coming here after Tampa and leading us to 11-5 plus 1 playoff win. However, it sure seemed like the majority Browns fans hated his ass enough to prefer a QB that needed a step stool to take snaps from Center. And why? Eric Zeier had a nice preseason game or 2. We sure forgot our first round logic there didn't we? Philly fan was proud of us though.

Just posting the facts bro...make your own conclusions. I have rooted for McCoy and still do...I have seen enough to think he isn't superbowl material, or even good enough to win a game in our division.

Hmmmmm...........Hasselbeck, Young, Montana, Favre, Mark Brunell, Detmer and McCoy...............two things in common.

None were first round picks and all were mentored by Holmgren, but then he all of the sudden forgot everything when he moved to Cleveland........must be something in the water.

Any of those #1 QBs mentored by Mangini?.................just askin

You sure do talk about Mangini a lot. Mind staying on topic?

You giving Holmgren credit for Montana is all we need to know about your views and how incredibly skewed they are.

I agree Tom. Thing is, we are stuck with this system, and this coach ...so we need a QB that can somehow transcend bad coaching. The antiquated Holmgren offense = McCoy's demise.

Well done Ytown! BTW, Kurt Warner was also in one of Holmgren's training camps early on.

Are we really going to pretend all new millenium QBs going to struggling franchises come without growing pains? I don't know why people act like we've had all the criteria in place to tell if Wallace OR McCoy has what it takes. There isn't 1 receiver on this team that could start anywhere in the division and maybe the conference except Josh Cribbs right now.

Aaron Rodgers didn't win his first playoff game until his 6th year. He didn't start until his 4th year on a team that just went to the NFC Championship just 1 year before startsies. Alex Smith won his 1st playoff game in season #7. Immediate? Really?

Carson Palmer never won a playoff game.
Akili Smith never won a playoff game.
Tim Couch never won a playoff game.
Cade McNown never won a playoff game.
Brady Quinn never won a playoff game.
Matt Leinart never won a playoff game.
Vince Young never won a playoff game.
JP Losman never won a playoff game
Patrick Ramsey never won a playoff game.
Kyle Boller never won a playoff game.
Joey Harrington never won a playoff game.
Ryan Leaf never won a playoff game.
David Carr never won a playoff game.
Rick Mirer never won a playoff game.
Jamarcus Russell never won a playoff game.
Jason Campbell never won a playoff game.
David Klingler never won a playoff game.
Heath Shuler never won a playoff game.

We sweep all those guys under the rug every time we pretend guys like Matt Schaub, Kurt Warner, Jeff Hostetler, Joe Theisman, Joe Montana, Jeff Garcia, Warren Moon, Brett Favre, Drew Brees, Bart Starr, Johnny Unitas, Matt Hasselbeck, Rich Gannon, Brad Johnson, Mark Brunell, Mark Rypien and Tom Brady just can't possibly exist after round 1.

The first time we drafted a hotshot QB at #3 overall we gave Paul Warfield to Don Shula to make it happen. Then we needed a 13th round QB named Sipe to bail us out.

THEN, we drafted Tim Couch 1st overall only to see our VERY patient fan base cheer when he lay motionless on the field because get this I was told "the cheers were because everyone was just overjoyed to see Kelly Holcomb." Really? Many of those were some of the same fans thinking "I'm only cheering for 1st round QBs and preferably ones that aren't here." Um, God bless ya!

Then, when we grabbed a former 1st round QB Vinny Testaverde - he led us to 11-5 and a playoff win over Parcells Patriots. All our fan base ever wanted to do was boo him because the 5'10" Eric Zeier had 1 or 2 nice preseason games. 1 more example of a 1st round QB not keeping the boo birds silent.

Then we moved up to draft Brady Quinn to save us from Charlie's Fryes. That was fine until DA intercepted plans, we went 10-6 and 2 consecutive coaching staffs inclusive of Mangini never saw the same delight that Savage saw in Quinn. Pro ready my ass! He was good kid though; so YES I wanted him to succeed like every QB we bring here. I'm going to give Quinn credit for the exchange value of Peyton Hillis plus a late round draft pick.

History tells me you can draft 1st round QBs forever when the right ones aren't on your door step. If we get Luck without giving away too much - I'm in. All you guys that have watched 2 Baylor games in the last 4 years - let's not pretend Big 12 stardom matriculates to NFL stardom. Look around and obsreve what history shows you. Above all, just remember it only took you 21 starts to put our current Big 12 QB in the biggest cyber recycle bin in America.

This post was absolutely beautiful...5 stars My friend!

The first time we drafted a hotshot QB at #3 overall we gave Paul Warfield to Don Shula to make it happen. Then we needed a 13th round QB named Sipe to bail us out.

Well, Walter's football has thrown McCoy under the bus- but I'm not quite ready to do that yet. If H&H do I'll abide by their far superior insight.

BTW, in your listing of massive fails of first round qbs, how could you forget Todd Marijuanovitch?

The concrete example of where you wind up busting on first round qbs lies 55 miles to the south of Dayton- home of the Bungles. Ah Dave Kingler. Nope. Ah-kill-me Smith, he of the worm burner pass. Nope, not him either. Carson Palmer, like #1 overall? Close no cigar. Andy Dalton second round? BINGO!!!! Just like Bummer Esiason, and a couple of other second round bums like Brees and Farve.

So let's not get our panties in a bunch saying MUUUSSSSTTT draft RGIII- yet. (You-know-who would)

One thing I took away from the GB-NY game is, you can make the greatest qb in football (Rodgers) look average if you can pressure him- and you can make the far inferior qb (Manning) look like Rodgers- if you give him all day to throw.

Sure, McCoy regressed- but then OTOH, so did Mr. #1 overall, Sam Bradford. Anyone care to bet Fisher will dump him and take RGIII?
