| Report: Browns now want Peyton Hillis back Posted on: January 31, 2012 11:34 am
2011 wasn't Peyton Hillis' year. But maybe 2012 already got him clear of the Madden Curse, as the Browns reportedly want to re-sign the running back, despite his injuries during the previous season. That's according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, who reports that Hillis "worked his way back into the team's good graces" over the final six weeks of the season, and that Cleveland would like him back in 2012. Hillis struggled with injuries, a belief that he was soft, playing time, and all the other things that accompany the Madden Curse in 2011. After busting out for 1,177 yards in 2011, Hillis took a major step back in 2012, rushing for just 587 yards in 10 games, nine of which he started. At one point, he was the embodiment of Cleveland athletics, a blue-collar guy whose style of running fit perfectly with the way Cleveland sees itself. Which is precisely why the Browns kept saying they'd re-sign him. That they're now interested in locking up Hillis again is interesting, but perhaps the timing of the interest is obvious, given how much cheaper Hillis will be to sign than he was a year ago at this time. *Yeah..it certainly will be cheaper to sign him now than his coming off of the monster year he had 2 seasons ago..The simple fact of the matter is; He's a perfect for this offense. Just need a speed guy for a change of pace which we can grab later in the draft.. We have enough holes..here is one that can be plugged prior to the draft..

Sometimes you wonder if it could be someone from the FO leaking info to make the player look at fault.

When a reporter's "inside source" about the team they cover is someone at the league level likely in New York? Yeah I agree with you, Not sure how much weight I put on it.

Better than nothing. Hillis should realize his competition in free agency... Stay in Cleveland. Elsewhere I would not see him being as much of a bulldozer, blue collar type of guy. He could be very good with hopefully Mike Adams (RT) as well as a new right guard. Steinbach back next year.. Might as well go for a new fullback IMO..

Pick up a WR with second #1...Even if Blackmon is there at 4 (sacrilege )Hillis isn't worth Madden cover $...or any more than the best FB in football...He'll will never perform the way he did under EM/Daboll (70% of offense) I let him walk unless we can get him for a reasonable price. Do we really want a guy who doesn't want to play for us? He wants the money. He did something half decent (Yeah, 1, 100 yards is not quite the heroic effort Browns fans seem to think) and did that without a real passing game. He ran straight up the middle when the holes were provided, when he broke free we rarely saw any magic to make it last because he isn't quick enough and again, most importantly, he only wants to make money. Yeah he caught some passes, but any RB can catch that many when they are thrown at them, and any RB that size can run over your average CB. 2011 showed Colt has the confidence to get the ball to the WR's and i hope that's the direction the Browns continue to go. I thought Chris Obi was a better rusher than him. He showed patience, had a better average and actually has break potential that we saw much more frequently than Peyton in 2011. If we take Peyton Hillis' carries in 2010 and apply them to Chris' average YPC in 2011 he hits 1, 345 yards on the 2011 season. Also, when Chris went further in to the season his yards actually went up. Showing his improvement. But of course, Chris rushes for 100 yards and the next week Mr. Hillis is miraculously ready to play. Chris isn't the answer, which is hilarious because even then he's still an improvement and i want to see more of this man. We say no to getting Desean Jackson, because he is a talented diva. We bitch about Braylon Edwards, because he was a talented but useless diva, We laughed at Cinci when they got Ocho and TO and were shocked when they acted like a pair of diva's but then we get our very own mediocre, average diva and love him so much that we want to give him $10 million for refusing to play!? Not in my world, I'd have thrown him out before he even had time to say "Strep throat" and he's have done the same to his manager if he cared about the team. Ask Joe Thomas and Josh Cribbs if loyalty and dedication gets you rewarded with this team. The worst part is, the fans loved him and welcomed him with open arms. We got him on the Madden cover, we got in a big C on his shirt and we gave him a home where he was supported more than the players on our team who actually deserved it. He rewarded us by refusing to play. Most funny though, if he had have come in and played his ass off he would have gotten a fat contract. Now he gets nothing but laughs. |

I've stressed how much better this team is with a healthy Peyton Hillis running the ball, the problem is we cant revolve our offense around him. We learned this year that teams will key in on him and eliminate him and we had no plan B many of the games that Hillis was shut down early. Keeping him is a good thing if the price is right. Incentive laden contract? Yes please. If we can land, what, Richardson? In the draft... that's a prospect with 2 or 3x the potential that Hardsesty had, and someone I would be excited to see in Brown and Orange. I question if Hillis really has that explosive capability? He's a tough runner and on occasion that toughness gets him 3-4 yards on merit but a lot of times he just hit a wall and got stuffed this year, a far cry from the season before when nobody seemed to be able to stop him.
__________________ BROWNS 2012: Its Weeden's job to lose, it was the second we took him #22 overall. We had a pretty good draft, and I'd like to start seeing some results. Fans already looking to next year and I don't blame them. I think we will have things to be excited about that we lacked last year and we have some real facepalm moments just like last year. It's going to be tough. We aren't Barking Hard for nothing. WOOF WOOF WOOF! ![]() |

Hillis is a novelty because he is a white man playing the running back position decently in an era when it is dominated by blacks. Let him walk. He isn't worth any big contract. He is average and can be replaced very easily. I stated the obvious, now lets hear the puppets complain. Last edited by mario; 02-05-2012 at 04:39 PM. |
