Default Full 1st Round Draft Predictions

http://brownscountry.com/2012/02/04/...ft-prediction/

Hey guys, last few days I have been hard at work making my full draft predictions for the first round. I thought it would be a bit easier honestly, but I ended up with 10 pages on Word not including pictures.

I think whoever is available Blackmon or Griffin, is the pick. It's very hard to say if the Redskins will indeed barter their future for the #2 pick, but it seems somewhat likely. If you know Griffin III is the man to take us to a super bowl, then I think its acceptable to trade up.. but I am not that sure about that.

The good thing about Blackmon is, he could probably just fall in our laps. If we get a WR with the first pick, then we may be looking at a late-ish first round defensive steal like Courtney Upshaw. After listening to you guys and looking more into it, I think Burfict will fall into the later 2nd round.

The good thing about RGIII is that you do not NEED to a big pick, like the 22 or 36th, to get an offensive linemen. If you keep McCoy you NEED TO! RGIII is a rare hybrid that can pass with amazing completion percentages and can scramble very well, and though we would need better personnel on the right side, we don't need a big guy like Mike Adams.

Only problem I have with any mocks now is the Manning factor. Manning will be playing for someone and it might just be a team that some are figuring would trade up. Got to think that Manning and Flynn will knock two of the QB lacking teams out of the race for RGIII.

I also think that the combine will go a long way in sorting out the WR class.

But with what we got to go on now I think you did a real good job. I don't know if Upshaw is more of a 3-4 backer or if they will see him as a WLB in the 4-3.

Thanks! I am assuming Manning goes to the Phins or the Skins. It would help reduce RGIII's stock which would be way to high if Manning retires..

Sorry it's long. Some draft prospects i wrote up for a bit of fun. I will say my draft prospects are not always the best as we do not get NCAA games in Australia, highlight packages don't show the negatives and information from America is very opinionated, so it's hard to tell who is full of s*&t haha.

1.a. Justin Blackmon.

Justin has the potential to be one of the top wide outs in the NFL. He could be the next Calvin Johnson Jr if he works for it, and will almost certainly be one of the elite instantly. I’ve also seen comparisons to Michael Crabtree, but I think Justin is going to be big. I know comparing him to Megaton may open your eyes, but in case you didn’t notice Greg Little passed expectations by a long shot. If the Browns got Justin passing expectations the way Greg did the stats would look similar over the coming years. I cannot see the Browns passing him up if he’s still on the board. He creates separation, he runs incredibly crisp routes, he has very safe hands and the Browns desperately need that #1 wide out. He has great speed that will greatly compliment the slower Greg Little, and create a mismatch when fellow speedster Josh Cribbs takes the field. Justin will be too hard to pass up, and will be a real turning point for the Browns offense. He will be a go-to guy straight away, and improve every week.

1.b. RG3

Do not get me wrong, I believe Colt McCoy deserves another shot as the Browns future passer and Justin Blackmon only solidifies that, but there is two reasons that RG3 may be a Cleveland Brown – St. Louis Rams and the Atlanta Pick.

First I should say, RG3 isn’t a trick pony. He throws very accurate passes with a tight spiral, he is a very intelligent player with great instinctive process and is the best scrambler since Michael Vick went to Atlanta. The only difference between Mike and Robert is that Robert is a better passer.

But if St. Louis decide they want Justin Blackmon, then the Browns may snatch up RG3 and use their second first round pick (traded by Atlanta) and snatch up Kendall Wright. Both RG3 and Kendall are coming out of Baylor and are just as responsible for their accolades as the other. They have that WR/QB chemistry already established that could be priceless for the Browns offense. Kendall is also a very strong prospect himself and possibly the fastest man alive, the only Cleveland Brown that can go toe to toe with him when practicing deep routes is Buster Skrine. That says a lot.

There is however one thing I feel I must add. A lot of sources are saying the Cleveland Browns will trade their first two draft picks to the Rams. The basis of this is that Cleveland does not want to lose Griffith and the Rams will simply drop back two spots, grab Blackmon anyway and have another first to go with it. The people saying this really don’t hold the right to talk. It has no validity. Browns would just grab Blackmon if someone traded up for RG3. Simple. The Browns showed they have every intention of recruiting young players in the draft and have too many holes to use two first round picks on one player.

1.c. Trent Richardson

Here is something said quite often about Trent Richardson, “Trent has the promise to be a perennial 1, 500 yard rusher”.

For a team struggling at Running Back, Trent is a strong prospect. Well, he is for any team. He’s the best rushing prospect to enter the draft for a while. He is an all round star and is certain to have a big future in the NFL. If it were not for the two names above him, he would be a no brainer. Even with them there, he still might find a home in Cleveland.

The next part is where it gets tricky. Names are falling up and down the board daily. Placing just a few names within reach is a difficult task.

1(2) a. Kendall Wright

Kendall is a great prospect for the Browns in two ways. One is simply his talent and the other if the Browns pick up RGIII. Kendall has relatively safe hands and does run crisp routes but like all rookies he needs to learn and adapt. But the Browns have harnessed Greg Little with no off season so Kendall could be a big shaker. His greatest asset is his speed, Kendall is lighting fast and in the Browns WCO that could be incredibly helpful. If this kid even got a yard of separation on a quick slant he has the potential to take it all the way. The big question is will the Bengals take him out from the Browns reach. Maybe. But they have their own issues to fix, and WR isn’t a position of dire need for them, especially on a first round pick. Of course, this pick is subject because if the Browns get Justin Blackmon, they will not get Kendall Wright.

1.(2)b. Kelechi Osemele

Stick him at LG (where he is best). Between Joe Thomas and Alex Mack. Ignoring his actual potential to be a great player, working with those two is only going to make him that much better. Move Eric Steinback over to RT/RG for Shaun Lauvao and Jason Pinkston to fight it out for the starting spot beside Eric. The right side will be weaker, but Owen Marecic and Ben Watson are both very competent blockers and will traditionally line up on the right side of the field anyway which will greatly compliment the right side weakness. The Browns offensive line has been scrutinized and needs fixing before the offense can really spread its wings. Colt McCoy is a much better player when everything is going right in front of him, and when he has four 400lbs defensive linemen hot on his tail every down I might consider that counter-productive. The Browns need to fix this. I also think Mike Adams will slide up the board, after impressing at the senior bowl I think the NFL Draft Combine will see him motivated to greater impact. Kelechi is an incredibly gifted athlete when using his size and physical ability, and working with the pro-bowlers on the Browns offensive line will see his footwork come to match. The Browns have a chance to shore up the offensive with just the first round. There will still be talented defensive picks to come in later rounds (Just ask Buster Skrine and Jabaal Sheard) but the offensive unit is what needs the most repair. I also count this on the Browns making defensive moves in free-agency, like Williams or Mathis for the end position. Seeing the year that rookie Jabaal Sheard had will have players licking their lips to get in on that action.

1(2) c. Vontaze Burfict

This guy has raw power and the ability to rush the pass and move out wide. He does need the presence of leadership, though I think Scott Fujita, D’Qwell Jackson and the Browns young but dominant defensive line will suit him fine. Vontaze brings intensity that the Browns need and his addition will leave Browns fans feeling great about the direction of an already improved, young and strong defense. I’ve picked Vontaze as the 3rd pick because of what we’re hearing about Courtney Upshaw. There is a lot of hype about him and if he shows even a fraction of that at the combine, he’ll be out of our range. Vontaze may possibly slip back to the 2nd round, which would be a steal if the Browns could scoop him up there.

No idea why so much of this decided to be bold. Sorry.

With all due respect, and I see where you're coming from with Blackmon. I want to make an argument against Greg Little here. His numbers only reflect the fact that we more or less forced the ball to him all season in a half-hearted attempt to get him some raw playing time.

I don't think we'll really see how it plays out w/ Little for another couple of seasons, how many of us would have expected MoMass to turn into the drooling zombie of a WR he looked like out there this past season after his rookie year where it was a similar circumstance and MoMass was nowhere near as "raw" as Little either...

I think Blackmon is the real deal, sports science doesn't do bits on nobody's... COULD he be another Crabtree I dunno but I would love it if he was there at #4 for us. I don't see that happening in my gut feeling... we could use a weapon like Blackmon in this offense and with a legit #1 like Blackmon, say you have Little at #2 and Cribbs at #3 in the slot, even that sounds like it has a lot more potential than last year's WR corpse...

We had a pretty good draft, and I'd like to start seeing some results.
Fans already looking to next year and I don't blame them.
I think we will have things to be excited about that we lacked last year and we have some real facepalm moments just like last year.
It's going to be tough.

I have a hard time with this draft as you cannot bank on a trade-up. I have not complaint with Blackmon of course.. I hope he's there. I want to see Washington trade with us for RG#3 myself.. we need more picks.

As you all know Im a WR fanatic... I played QB and WR.... as well as #11 Wing in Rugby (similiar to WR in Football)

And I Cant help with being enamored by Michael Floyd. I am a wideout connoisseur and I must say he is Legit.... and my track record for wideouts is pretty solid. (ala. Me calling Dez Bryant 2 years before he was drafted... and he's a beast)

Michael Floyd has GREAT size, leaping ability, body control, speed and toughness..... and he has the X-factor.

What I refer to as x-factor is a combination of Fluidity and just flat out making it look good. It shows confidence and comfortability in the position... which are extremely important in the position.
