Roethlisburgher - 11th
Brees - 33rd
Rodgers - 24th
Schaub - 27th in 3rd RD
Romo - UD
Favre - 38th
Brady - 33rd in 6th RD
Warner - UD

Do you know what these guys all have in common other than NOT being top 10 picks???

They were in the top 10 QB Ratings last year.
So, you ask how will we get ours....as 7 out of the top 10 rated passing teams.

Another thing many have in common, though, is that they're not with their first teams. Only Ben (11), Rodgers (24), Romo, and Brady are with their original teams.

I think Rodgers was one of the most absurd falls in draft history. I really do. I think he should have gone 1st to SF or 3rd to Cleveland. I would LOVE to get Clausen at 28 this year. He doesn't become any less of a Top 10 guy if that happens, and we get Berry or somebody else, too.

Brady is the ultimate unicorn and it was a long time ago.

The truth is that 19 of next year's probable starters were acquired in the first round by their current teams. Eight were acquired by trade. Five were acquired later than round one by their current teams.

And keep in mind that both Favre and Brees were 33rd picks (almost round one) who went onto their greatest success with second and even third teams.

And, again, the dropoff from 1 to 2 and beyond is steeper at QB than any other position, as we showed a few days ago.

It's a first round position... and mostly a top half of round one position.

I think the arguement though is shep. You don't need to have a top 5 pick to land a quality first round QB. so even if you have a decent season this year and are picking say 19th next year. you could possibly trade up to 7 and get a good QB. Depending on what's out there.

and I know you've said before that you agree that it's a fairly valid idea to wait till next year if you think the QBs then are better, it's just not what you would do.

Pretty much agree.

As usual, it comes down to what you think of Clausen. Word is that Carroll thinks he's a legit Top 5 talent (per Peter King) and he would jump on him at 14, Whitehurst or not. The Bills might trade up for him.

But the Browns don't seem to see him quite that way. I get the sense they slot him for 12-20.

I think when Clausen starts to freefall, Goodell will put him in a seperate room so that people don't see him lose his composure. After he has a public meltdown, accompanied by his girlfriend, only then do we trade back into the 1st to select him.......

I would take Sanchez at 7.

Knowing what I know now, of course.

That's the hard part, being psychic, seeing the future and all...

That Sanchez sucked last year? Because he sure did. What you know now is what you knew then.

Considering Sanchez was a whoping 3 points better than Delhomme last year...that kinda surprises me a bit.
