So, me and a friend of mine were talking about all the possible trades that could happen this year.... what with rumors of St Louis, Kansas City, and Cleveland... and others wanting a new spot in day one. Lots of mocks I see tend to not have any draft-day trades in them, which I think doesn't always reflect what tends to happen come draft day. I came up with this fun and interesting mock that has a few teams moving up and down.
1. St. Louis Rams Sam Bradford, QB Oklahoma
Lots of rumors abound with St. Louis and trades, but I think they will "settle" for Bradford. I don't buy Cleveland's supposed interest in moving up to select Bradford. It goes against both Heckert and Holmgren's style of drafting.
2. Detroit Lions Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska
Suh is the obvious choice here.... well at least for the Lions. Personally, I think the lions need an OT pretty badly, but its hard not to take Suh if he's there. His skill and talent level is a rarity.
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma
The Bucs will take the -other- "Best DT in the draft". McCoy fills a great need for them.
4. Washington Redskins Russell Okung, OT Oklahoma State
The Redskins solved their QB problem with aquiring McNabb. Congrats. Now they need someone to protect him.
5. Minnesota Vikings (from KAS) Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame
Oh shit! Who would expect this one? No one. Well, I know its- really- unlikely, but consider this: There's a lot of rumors that Kansas City really wants to trade down. What if they do? Favre is still undecided on playing next year and the Vikings fallback, Sage Rosenfels, is 32 and frankly not that good. If the Vikings are Favre-less, desperate for another play-off run, and want a pick-up-and-play QB, they could make a trade for Jimmy and try to repeat what the Jets pulled off last year.
6. Seattle Seahawks Eric Berry, S, Tennessee
Seattle -sorta- answered their QB problem with Charlie Whitehurst. Knowing the 2010 draft is laden with talented tackles, they could put their greater need on hold for their other 1st round pick (#14), and select Berry now, who would be a great fit for their defense.
7. Philadelphia Eagles (from CLE) Joe Haden, CB, Florida
If Berry is gone, I fully expect Heckert to orchestrate a trade down of some sort. Philly is a good candidate because of the close relations Heckert has, and they want Haden. Done deal.
8. Oakland Raiders Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland
Al Davis is up to his crazy Shenanigans again, falling in love with players that have insane speed, agility and strength. Oh, I think the ability to play football falls in there somewhere, too... but I pretty sure that's not too important to Ol' Al.
9. Pittsburgh Steelers (from BUF) Rolando McClain, LB, Alabama
As of today, Pittsburgh is trying to shop Big Ben for a top 10 pick. Assuming Al Davis is too busy drooling over Bruce Campbell to notice, the Bills might be crazy enough to take him.... especially after seeing Jimmy gone from the board already. We all know their fans are so frustrated from the Bills performance that they probably wouldn't even care.
10. Jacksonville Jaguars Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech
I agree with walterfootball.com that the Jags should take Tebow. It would be a great business move. However, I dont think the Jags have Tebow as a high priority. If they don't use this pick to trade down and get him, they will have several options. I think Morgan will give the Jags a young, talented player who can get to the quarterback.
11. Denver Broncos Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State
With Marshal gone and Eddie Royal still performing sub-par, I see this as a no-brainer. I don't believe all the supposed negative traits this kid has. He just seems aloof and a little dumb.... maybe even ADHD. :P
12. Miami Dolphins Dan Williams, NT, Tennessee
The Dolphins have a huge need at nose tackle because their starter is suspended for half of the season for performance enhancing drugs. Oh, and he's 35.
13. San Francisco 49ers C.J. Spiller, RB, Clemson
Frank Gore is a beast but the 49ers need a compliment for him. Gore has suffered through several injuries cant carry the offense on his shoulders like Jackson of the Rams can.
14. Seattle Seahawks Brian Bulaga, OT, Iowa
This is where the Seahawks upgrade their poor offensive line. Bulaga is a great fit for a team that needs a serious upgrade at left tackle.
15. New York Giants Sean Weatherspoon, LB, Missouri
The Giants nab a talented line backer to fill the hole left by Antonio Pierce.
16. Tennessee Titans Jason Pierre-Paul, DE, South Florida
Pierre-Paul would be a great fit for a team that lacks a real playmaker on defense.
17. San Francisco 49ers Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma
With Tony Pashos now a Brown, the 49ers will need a replacement. Frankly, I'd rather have Trent Williams as well. :P
18. Buffalo Bills (from PIT) Anthony Davis, OT, RutgersThough the Bills now have Big Ben, their trade down left them at a bad spot in the draft. From the players left on the board, I think they would select Anthony Davis. They have a need at Left Tackle, and Davis can produce.
19. Atlanta Falcons Brandon Graham, LB, Michigan
The Falcons have issues when trying to get to the quarterback. Graham could be the answer to their problems.
20. Houston Texans - Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State
The Texans offense is still lethal... but their secondary needs some major attention if they want to make it to the play-offs.
21. Cincinnati Bengals Taylor Mays, FS, Southern Cal
A player like Mays would be a great fit for the Bengals roster. It wont take him long to adjust to Cincy's defensive scheme.
22. New England Patriots Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma
With Ben Watson a Brown and nearly no one to step up behind him, I bet the Pats are looking for Gresham with their pick.
23. Green Bay Packers Sergio Kindle, LB, Texas
Green Bay will continue to buff up their 3-4 defense, making them even more of a respected force in the league.
24.
Cleveland Browns (from PHI) Earl Thomas, S, Texas
I bet you read this far just to see what we picked. Or maybe you just skipped to here. Its ok. You can quit reading now. :P Thomas is well liked by our FO and the value of trading down and getting a safety some consider better than Berry will not be lost on Heckert.
25. Baltimore Ravens Jared Odrik, DT, Penn State
Baltimore lost a few players on their defensive front this off season. I'm sure they will be looking to fill in some holes. Odrik would be a good fit for them.
26. Arizona Cardinals Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers
The Cards need some help at tackle to help protect their new QB: Derek Anderson.
27. Dallas Cowboys Mike Iupati, OG, Idaho Dallas was interested in Iupati, so if he falls to them I see no reason why they wont take him. He can immediately improve the offensive line.
28. San Diego Chargers Ryan Mathews, RB, Fresno State
With LT gone, the Chargers will be looking to find a replacement fast. Matthews has the skill and versatility to be able to start instantly.
29. New York Jets - Brian Price, DT, UCLAThe Jets' defensive line is getting old.... and with so many expensive pickups this off season for their offense, I see no reason they will draft anything else this high. :P
30. Kansas City Chiefs (from MIN) - Charles Brown, OT, Southern Cal
The Chiefs got their wish, but they fell down too far to select some of the better Left Tackles for their team. However as I said before, this Mock assumes Favre decides to not return and the Vikings got desperate. Also, considering this draft is laden with talented offensive linemen... I dont think the Chiefs would be upset.
31. Indianapolis Colts Javhvid Best, RB, California
A young, fast, pounding running back is missing from the Colts offense.... I think someone to compliment Addai would be a great fit for the Colts here.
32. New Orleans Saints -Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida
The saints have some holes to fill despite winning the Superbowl last year. Most notably Scott Fujita's absense (funny how I keep coming back to players leaving for the browns). Dunlap could be a great replacement.
Holy crap that took a long ass time to make. I started it because I was bored but it ended up taking a couple hours..... way too long, lol. Oh well. I'm not a draft guru by any means and this was my first mock, so feel free to give suggestions. Hopefully I didn't forget anything ( I have this nagging feeling that I did) . I gotta get off the computer now... I've been staring at the screen for a couple hours too many.
