had he run the 40 time everyone thought he would by his game speed we would be getting good reviews for this pick from the "experts" I am ok with it, he plays fast. that is all I care about, games speed more important then track speed.

would I rather had Berry or Suh yes but they were gone

at #7 would you rather have drafted one of the other CB's? cause that is where we drafted, can't trade out of there without a trade partner!

I think I posted this somewhere else but Heckert said that Haden ran a faster 40 when they worked him out then he did at his pro day and one factor was that Haden never gave up a TD pass starting 40 games for Fla. That to me is impressive since he wasn't playing zone and keeping things in front of him. He played a lot of man and took one side of the field away from opponents.

High 5 Alo!

I'll bet Ryan and Mangini LOVE these corner blitzes on film. I can't believe how freakin fast Haden gets from the line of scrimmage to the QB. It's REALLY impressive. I think we can throw out those Indy 40s when we see footage like this. PLUS guys with a nose for the ball - get places quicker because they have good instincts, anticipation and vision all working in unison.

Thanks for the video!

I am hoping that Golden Tate falls to us and we can get Him..

Does that mean he'll end up being the best pro? Of course not.
It's a solid pick with huge upside.
He's a starter. That's a good beginning.
I don't want to say I 'love' the pick but I was not disappointed when I was told he was who we took. He was one of the first draft standouts that I looked at and he stood out throughout all of the pre-draft shenanigans. I really wanted Berry but he didn't fall to us. Haden was a good pick, he gives us some immediate improvement in our secondary, which was one of the worst in the league I might add...

I don't think we blow minds with this pick in any respects. I hope Haden will pan out and I really hope our Defense shows a bit more oomph next season. I think we will address safety later in the draft. And I really hope we take Golden Tate if he is available in round 2. Haden and Tate are two picks I can feel good about.

In my opinion, if we're replacing Colt McCoy, you aim higher than Colt... Flynn or RGIII don't really give me that warm and fuzzy feeling.

Do you mean you weren't drinking when you promised Clausen was round 1 material? I appreciate the honesty Shep. 32 teams had ideal opportunities to get him near the close of round 1 and nobody wanted him. Minnesota and Arizona would have been ideal places but they exercised the no thank you reply extremely well.

Don't worry though - round 2 is still a compliment for the Golden Child or Golden Tate and even the REAL McCoy. Why knee jerk for any of these guys in upper round 1 when they're still available in upper round 2?

There's a 70s tune with a lyrical line that fits the situation: "You don't have to be a star baby - to be in round 2."

- Tom F. (I'm really impressed with Todd McShay's pre-draft logic, poise and accuracy about the supply and demand of the 1st round QB this year! That guy really did his research.)

Completely agree EE! Yeah Haden isn't the sexy pick but neither were Thomas and Mack. I think that it was a good pick because he was the BPA on there board. If you watch the press conference there was some discussion about E. Thomas but Heckert said that they had Haden rated higher.

It will be interesting if we can stay at #38 and get Tate or do we have to trade up? I want Tate in the second and then S, DE, OL or RB in the third.

Are you kidding me? We have Eric Wright, a 30+ year old Sheldon Brown and...Brandon McDonald? Remember the last couple of years when we've had to rely on Ralph Brown and Hank Poteat as depth? The Haden pick hopefully puts an end to the utterly pathetic backfeilds we've run since 1999.

Corner has become a elite position and shut down corners are a very high premium.

Haden and Wright with Brown as some FS and nickle back. It also tells Wright to pick up his game. Adams will play some dime and will play a lot to replace Elam in passing situations. This pick also insures you don't flush the season with one injury in the defensive backfield. I wouldn't be surprised if they pick FS also. I'd love to see Morgan Burnett make to to the top of the 3rd round.

Now, let's get McCoy or Tate at #38.
My thinking exactly, +1. Doesn't bother me we have three good corners in this passing league when 3 and 4 WR sets are the norm.

Funny how the same people bashing us will be congratulating the Jets for having the foresight to get 3 good CB's! Plus we won't get killed now if one of our CB's pulls a hammy or something worse.

Just have to take Holgrem at his word right now. He said he wouldn't go QB early and he just doesn't like Clausen (he really wants to, though.) I'm happy with the pick. Kinda hard to label this draft a bust after ONLY 1 pick. We got quite a few more.

Thanks for the link, very obvious Heckert started getting a little pissed about the constant questions implying the Browns could have had someone better....Seems like Mangini/Heckert were on the same page (good sign) unlike Savage/RAC. Haden was BPA.

You know, I watched that video on Haden, and while his corner blitzes and coverage are good, it doesn't seem like his tackles are really very consistent. I saw a lot of arm tackles, bouncing off of offensive players, and even a violent stiff-arm or two. But maybe that can be coached up.
