Rich,
You're coming across like a "just say no" ad. That couldn't have been any more incoherent and angry.
All the facts were written about your hero (a rapist) as a rookie QB in his first training camp. Halfway through Ben's first training camp - go read what was offered to Maddox in terms of contract and contract extension. That certainly wasn't because they felt like Ben was showing them he was gonna be Dan Marino week 1 of the regular season in the rookie year. In essence, you could say even the STEELERS didn't think a MAC QB translated to instant success when they were watchign his 1st camp. I'm sure anyone that WANTS to can pull up some early training camp reports written in the Pitt papers. This was the most important part of what I was saying:
"The rookie took over and it was reported Pro Bowl Guard Alan Faneca said "don't LOSE it and we'll take care of the rest." They did and went 15-1 regardless of the original plan to go body by Maddox." Was that an endorsment for "rookie sucks" or be careful with "premature conclusions?" Do we have a rookie QB on board? So in the context of the QB conversation taking place in this thread, why do you suppose I was sending a message about not over-analyzing a rookie QB in his first month of training camp? I think it echoes what Holmgren was saying about how early he expects McCoy to be playing at the rate of ready to start. I ended it with this statement:
"Moral of the story is there's just no way to accurately script it all up; BUT someone's fate by a power greater than us is already laid out to lead this team to good things in 2010." Hopefully to people more level headed - they can grasp that it means we'll have 1 of 3 capable QBs leading us to good things in 2010 by staying within himself.
I may not LIKE Pitt's QB, but I'm not dumb enough to think they win either Superbowl without him. That wasn't what I was trying to convey. About that 15-1 rookie year flexing game management skills and scrambling ability? I think a defense that has the potential to outscore the opposing offense (often limiting the opponent to 10-16 points) while combining with an elite running game PROVIDES the margin of error most young QBs can only dream of. Every time I saw a highlight of a TD pass in Pittsburgh that year, it was Bettis or Randle El tossing it on gadget plays. That said, the rookie's confidence grew and he improved WAY more than those initial training camps reports were defining him. When TBB had Steelheads in there - I NEVER gave them the satisfaction of telling them I thought their QB was good. Meanwhile, you were siding with ALL the Steeler fans against Browns' fans. Since we're getting all Biblical today - that makes you Judas selling your soul. Therefore, you'll have to excuse me for not worrying about you losing respect Judas. In the 3rd testament we see Judas blaming Pontius Pilot???? God bless ya!
Are you still suffering from the need to redeem yourself for calling an entire message board of Browns' fans a bunch of assholes for simply disagreeing with your theory that Mo Clarett was the next Jim Brown? When people are USED to being right - they don't act like you're acting here. When Barry Sanders and Jimmy Brown scored all the time - they just handed the ball to the ref. They showed they've done it before and they'll do it again. The chestpounders celebrate like it might be their first & last time. If the shoe fits - tie that sucker up man. Just out of curiosity, does a guy like Alo need to announce it when he feels he got something right? He stays pretty level headed and well mannered. If he disagrees with something - he'll state what it is, show you why without getting confrontational. Not that I'm a role model myself.
The funniest part of your post? You're giving a Pontius Pilot lecture that starts with "you are full of shit" and you remained judgemental throughout your take. Not only that - it comes shortly after you calling 2 other Browns' fans assholes in this thread. The thought process behind your tirade was like one of those pro life people that KILLS someone working at planned parenthood because they want to deliver the message you shouldn't kill people. Ummm..., on the other hand - thank you for staying off the roads long enough to exercise your freedom of speech. Even if that was only temporary, we might have saved a life or 2. Good grief!!!
- Tom F. (Before you go blaming me for responding to your tone - I complimented you in more than 1 thread when you came here announcing you were excited to be a Browns' fan again.)
