Yes it is very possible in Ryan's sheme that he may not start, maybe early in the season he plays the 3rd. But the possibility still exists that he will start - this is way too early to be stating "he likely won't start."

But I do think the Browns signed Brown because he is a pretty damn good CB in his own right. I don't find it hard to believe that today Brown and Wright are better than Haden. I don't think that Haden needs to start right away with those two here, but I do see him starting as the season moves forward.

One thing that keeps getting overlooked on Haden is the fact that he was a QB. In fact he went to Florida AS a QB...only then to change over to CB because of Tebow already being firmly entrenched in the QB slot.

So, what we have in Haden is a smart guy who understands not only the defensive side of the ball, but the progressions a QB goes through because he has been there and done that.

We also have a guy that is almost EXACTLY the same size and skill set as Revis, you know, the guy Mangini helped make into a pro-bowl CB in NY.

And on top of all that, Haden was a top 10 pick talent after only 3 years of playing the position. That shows TALENT and COACHABILITY. And he is known for tackling as well as lock down coverage.

Basically, what I am saying is this kid was considered a top talent in the draft while still being extremely raw at the position...and we have a VET in Brown to help coach him AND Wright (who has never had a VET to help him) for the next 3 years.

I can't imagine a better scenario in the secondary than that...especially considering the pass happy NFL and the QB's we face 2x each every year in the AFC North.

Like the pick or not (based on personal bias mostly), this was a solid and well thought out pick and Haden is going to be on the field more than enough this year to prove the value of the pick.

All good points! Do you know what REALLY impressed me about him? Those highlights of him blitzing off the edge and closing on the QB at warped speed.

ALOT of our packages have more than 2 corners on the field so I think Haden is slated for alot of playing time. Not only that but he'll prolly draw the 3rd best WR on the opposing team. Understanding this, a BAD cover corner like Anthony Henry once flourished in the role of the 3rd corner as a rookie to the tune of 10 INTs. What HELPED that quite a bit was a Pro Bowl pass rush from Jamir Miller off the edge upfront. I think we're gonna have the athleticism on this defense to do some neat things with coverages and blitz schemes that we haven't been able to do in prior years.

I'm not worried about 1 single draftee in May as someone else said. I believe we were already told that Haden's role was going to be as a 3rd corner early on. That's VERY smart because he'll be on the field as a starter WITH the starters quite often. There's alot more to learn in a 3-4 defensive scheme; especially whne this DC was hired for his connection to his dad's 4-6 defense for even more wrinkles we can throw out there.

If it's December, and there's someone more impressive than him in the 3rd corner spot - then we can start worrying if this was the right choice at #7 overall. Those Youtube videos of him people shared a month ago gave your buddy Flugel the goose bumps.

Im not going to worry about Haden for now. A rookie year is always a grace period regardless of performance. Yeah, we would love to see him step in and play with poise and maybe even dominate, yeah that would be preferable. But you gotta leave some room in those expectations that he may not have the most stellar rookie year. Happens to everyone, look at Brian Robiskie last year. "Most NFL Ready WR" in last years draft, he did not perform up to those expectations.

In the end, I do have high expectations of Haden because that's what happens when you're a first round draft pick, but if he's not starting by the end of 2010 and having a rather quiet year then I'm not going to be pulling out my pitchforks screaming that he's a bust.

Compare him to Brandon McDonald... If Haden gets two or three pics in his rookie year I'll be stoked.

In my opinion, if we're replacing Colt McCoy, you aim higher than Colt... Flynn or RGIII don't really give me that warm and fuzzy feeling.

I won't go on and on... but the expectations for any top 10 pick is that he's not only a starter, but an impact player pretty much from jumpstreet, particularly if he isn't a QB (but even that now, too).

I just think corner is a lame top 10 pick... and backup corner is whatever's just beneath lame. I doubt I'm gonna change my mind for anything short of a Revis-esque year.

I agree that it was a gross distortion of Adkins' report.

I heartily disagree. Well, not really... I just think the point was translated clearly: It looks likely that Brown and Wright will start.

BTW, Revis started every game his rookie year and had 87 tackles and 3 INTs. We should know really quickly if we got 14th pick value out of our 7th pick... or lower.

Also, it's good to hear that McCoy's impressed with his accuracy and "better-than-anticipated arm strength".
