I'll decide how hungry I am (gay reference here) for a serious franchise QB in next year's draft after getting some eyeballs on Colt (insert second gay reference here). Sure, it matters that his arm strength seems to be an issue in OTAs. You'd much rather be pleasantly surprised.

But I'm eager to see how he looks in preseason. If we aren't in a playoff chase, I'd get him some work late in the year, too. Because I really don't think we'll pass on a Locker or Luck unless McCoy has given us a really good reason. And he can't do that with a cap on.

Well, if we want any shot at the top pick next year then we had better start McCoy from the start.

Well, I think Mangie said as much when he kinda refuted what the Walrus said regarding Colt not playing at all this year. Depending how the season pans out, he may get a look late in the season. Preseason is what it is, so it is hard to gauge much plus he will develop as the season goes on. One concern of mine is he will be playing mostly scout team most of the year.

If you guys recall, the main reason for trading Frye was so Quinn could start getting reps. They moved Frye over DA cuz he garnered a pick, but it worries me a little that Wallace and Jake are going to get all the practice reps within the system.

We really need Colt to pan out. If he does show enough, we can feel really good about stealing him in the third without worrying about drafting another guy with all our other needs.

Thing is, you guys gotta trust what the braintrust thinks of the kid from seeing him everyday, not every little report about a pass that wasn't perfect or gunned in a practice drill. If they seem lukewarm at year's end, then maybe it is time to think QB next year.

We're losing sight of the real discussion here when we resort to calling into question each others' fandom. It's counterproductive and makes no logical sense, when you take into consideration often we all post here.

Now that we have that settled, of course I'd like to see McCoy successful. Why wouldn't I, taking what I said above as truth? My whole point in his thread was to say that the fact that his arm look weak was unsurprising. How this turns me into Lumbergh is a mystery.

Would I like to see McCoy successful?
You better believe it.
That being said, if he's not it I don't want to pass on what is probably going to have 2-3 strong candidates for franchise qbs next season.

Here's my issue. Where in this little article does it claim McCoy is validated as having a weak arm? The only other quote I've seen is from Grossi bitching about an out that was completed because it wasn't thrown hard enough. We are going off this as validation? Come on. Are there more quotes that I am missing or what?

On two long passes he delivered, one wobbled and was short, and the other was well overthrown. He needs to strike a happy medium and split the difference and put the ball where it needs to be, and he certainly appears to have the talent to do so. But it will take time, which is fine. The Browns have all kinds of time right now. They’re not going to win much this year no matter who they use, so they can be patient with their younger players instead of throwing them into the fire too early and ruining their confidence.

It's not validation, Riff. It's support. I was just another in a pile of observations RE: arm strength.

I realize I'm playing a small semantic game here, but the difference between the two is important.

PS I want all of our players to be good. I wanted Couch to be good, DA tobe good, etc. There just comes a point where I feel that they have no chance to be good, and I jump ship. I've been through too much with this franchise, and have been heartbroken too many times, to chug Kool-Aid or try and trick/fool myself into believing I see something that's not there or going to be there. I wish I could. That way, I could be a huge Peyton Hillis fan.

I seem to recall the media pointing out that McCoys arm looked much stronger than advertised during the rookie camp. Odd how quick certain people are to jump on only the negatives that hacks like Grossi put in print. Seems they are more concerned about being right than hitting the jackpot with Colt.

Bah, what do they care? Just another name needlessly and prematurely dragged through the mud ...no biggie.

I like how guys like Tony Grossi, who follow the Browns for a living, never have any idea what they are talking about, but Message Board Gabe is the next Bill Parcells. It's frankly hilarious.

And Gabriel, bro, feel free to ignore me at any time. Your fetish for me has grown tiresome. You're like the guy who enters the Brady Quinn thread just to tell people to stop talking about Brady Quinn. People like you make no sense to me. If you don't like what I have to say, feel free to ignore me. My feelings won't be hurt. I swear.

This is a VERY GOOD point. Is he the first NFL QB to possess bi-polar arm strength?

Look I understand we've been snakebitten by promising prototypical QBs like Couch, Phipps and Quinn in the past. That said, why do we go the extra mile to say we're not gonna buy into guys like Brian Sipe or Colt McCoy? What's the REAL cost if a Sipe or McCoy doesn't pan out? We're talking round 3 and round 13 for Mccoy and Sipe. Missing on those guys doesn't set you back as far as missing on Couch at #1 overall or Phipps at #3 overall or trading away a first round pick for Quinn.

I said this earlier somewhere and I'll say it here. The guy that WANTED McCoy (Holmgren) had the followign NON-1st round QBs in his training camp at Green Bay: Kurt Warner, Matt Hasselbeck, Mark Brunell and Brett Favre. Which of those guys did NOT make a Pro Bowl? And which of them was ready to start as a rookie?

That being the case, why do you suppose the voice of experience would say - we're not gonna start him as a rookie? Could it be he was flashing back to the guys he had at Green Bay and he understands far better than any of us HOW LONG it takes for a kid to be ready? Holmgren would probably laugh at the panic in this thread over 2 wobblers from a rookie QB in May. Trust me.

Where was all this concern about wobblers from Clausen. I saw tons of them over the last 3 years when ND was on television.

If you watch the MoMass interview you can see Colt in the background working on longer throws after practice.
