Everybody pretty much runs the same offense in the NFL right now, all kind of West Coast-ey. I think there's room for a serious innovation, but it requires the same kind of commitment as moving to a 3-4. You'd have to build an offense around Tom's dream, a quarterback who might run as much as he throws, or pitch out to a WR/RB who can also run or throw.

Basically we're talking about running Florida's offense at the NFL level, whatever they call it. It's not just the spread, right? There's some odd name for it.

I don't know if it would work, but it's interesting to imagine.

Those kind of offenses will never work in the NFL. They work in college because on defense you normally have 1 stud, 2 ok guys, then a rest of scrubs. In the NFL, there are rarely scrubs on D unless its our D.

I'd rather see these "Madden" offenses stay on madden. This kind of horseplay is the reason I don't take college ball seriously.

There are far worse fates than becoming the Miami Dolphins of the North.

Its a little gimmicky, but Cribbs YPC last year creates undeniable interest alone. Add Wallace's skill set with the addition of our new front office talent (in terms of their ability to assist in offensive design) and you may have a real opportunity for innovation. Potentially effective innovation.

I like it.

My plan is for them to run plays in artistic formations.

5 linemen, QB in the shotgun 5 yards back, 5 assorted skill players behind him symmetric to the offensive line. Bam. *REAL* I formation.

Performance Art plays could also work. Trail of Tears formation, where 5 skill players of Native American descent + Hillis are in the backfield, the ball is snapped to one of them, and then Hillis takes it from them. They then all run to the wide side of the field, blocking while weeping.

Still working on the 'War for Independence' themed play. Will get back to you.
