Default Who wins the Super Bowl, QB-wise?

With the exception of anomalies (Brady, Warner), they are either picked round 1 or at the VERY beginning of round 2.

Though anomalies do occur, wouldn't you rather bet against them?

Don't shoot the messenger.

I am pretty sure these satistics have been presented in some fashion or another before?

I told you not to shoot the messenger.

This was a point of contention today and I figured others might want to see the numbers.

My bad.

I'm also unsure of how Alo's quote, used here out of context, works.

So two less QB's were won by non-first round QB's then first round QB's, and out of 32 QB's in 16 SB's it's skewed 17/15 in favor of non-1st round QB's making the S.B. Okay then.

9 of 16 in the first round that's only 56%.. add the 2 high second rounders looks a bit better at 68.75% .. why do you have so few superbowls.. I am willing to bet those numbers go WAY down when you add in the full list of superbowl QB's. I know the passing game has changed a bit..but the QB has always been important.

You would expect this as most teams don't give non 1st or 2nd round QBs a fair shake at starting.

Don't think it proves anything definitively.

Three of the five SB winning non 1st round QB's (plus Brees and Favre) were Tom Brady. This doesn't look like an anomaly to you?

No, it doesn't, but there's generally a reason why those later round QB's don't get a chance at starting...they aren't very good.

Also, it's interesting that Brees was actually drafted 32nd... which is a first rounder. But someone got penalized and there were only 31 first round picks that year.

Yeah, Brady's three wins continues to make him the unicorn, throwing things off... yet it's still clear that you're way more likely to find a Super Bowl QB in round 1 than anywhere else. And it's the most "first round-centric" position by far.

Steve Young was NOT a 1st round pick, he went to the USFL first and then signed with Tampa in a supplemental draft, nor did he win the SB for the team he was drafted by.

John Elway did NOT play the team that drafted him...so I guess that counts him out too (due to the criteria imposed on later round draftees).

Trent Dilfer did NOT win the SB with the team that drafted him...again, he doesn't count either.

Drew Brees did NOT win the SB with the team that drafted him...once again, per the criteria outlined for later draftees, he doesn't count.

I am not being a hardnosed NO 1ST RD QB guy here...just saying that if we have to eliminate the later round guys because they often don't succeed for the team that drafted them...the same criteria goes for 1st/2nd rounders. As you can see, by looking at the same criteria, we have effectively eliminated 5 of the top round SB's because the player did not win it for their original drafted team...or were not even ORIGINALLY drafted (Young).

Just saying...there are VERY FEW that were DRAFTED top of the draft and WON THE SB on that same team. Of those 16 listed...only 5 were drafted in the top of the 2nd or sooner and WON THE SB WITH THAT TEAM. That is just over 30%. And of that, Roethlisburger and E.Manning are there mostly because of the TEAM AROUND THEM (read defense and running).

Anyway...30% is a pretty low threshold in my opinion.

Oi vay.

Look teams win without a 1st round QB, and they win with a 1st round QB.

Can we fucking move on?

So John Elway, the number one pick in the draft, was not a first round pick?

So I guess the numbers suffer even more when you consider the fact that Eli Manning did the same thing Elway did.
