The Pen: Week 9 Standings & Summaries The Pen: Week 9 Standings & Summaries: WOOF PACK I: Thaaktown 91 Port City Blazers 25 This matchup had some surprising results. Port City Blazers were coming off a big win where they were seemingly positioning themselves nicely for a run at 1st place before the end of the regular season. Unfortunately, their followup act showed the league who the heaviest sleepers of the week are. They started 2 guys out on bye weeks (Vince Young and Chris Johnson), Antonio Gates was too injured to play, while backups Michael Bush and Ricky Williams combined to scored 1 point. Actually, that's 5 guys combining for 1 point. Thaaktown refused to run the score up though as they continued to start the injured DeAngelo Williams and teamed him up with another RB out on a bye week (Maurice Jones Drew). The Blazers dropped to 5-4 while Thaaktown improved to 4-5 whether they know it or not. Jax Pumpkin Heads 103 BrownOut 95 The Jax Pumpkin Heads improved their way into sole possession of 2nd place with a 6-3 record. This was largely attainable behind 24 points apiece from Ray Rice and Percy Harvin. It wasn't easy because Steve Johnson had 30 points, Larry Fitzgerald scored 22 and Tom Brady provided 20 for BrownOut in this battle. BrownOut is 2-7 with a mission to win all 5 games left so they can be in contention for the 4th and final playoff spot. Team DangeRuss 123 Comets 120 DeSean Jackson paved the way with 30 points while Rashard Mendenhall helped Team DangeRuss overcome a last minute deficit to beat the Comets. The Comets received 27 points from Michael Turner and 21 more from Greg Jennings but it wasn't enough to hold off that explosive crew of bad boys DangeRuss showcases on game day. The Comets are now 5-4 while DangeRuss just power stealthed their way up to 3-6. Keep your eye on that bunch! FBrulz 97 Cleveland Crennels 79 The following equation kept the season of FBrulz alive and well: 33 points from Aaron Rodgers + 15 points from LT + The Cleveland Crennels starting 3 guys on bye weeks. FBrulz improved to 3-6 while Cleveland Crennels dropped to 5-4. Adrian Peterson's 30 points wasn't enough to overcome the goose eggs from Knowshon Moreno, Santana Moss and Graham Gano. The Crennels are glad to be moving past the bye week inconvenience and fortunate to be positioned right in the thick of things heading down the stretch. Hammertime 147 Brady Backers 101 Terrell Owens scored 41 points, Mike Wallace added 27 and the Saints Defense cleaned up with 25 points to deliver the message loud and clear "CAN'T TOUCH THIS!" The Brady Backers didn't exactly back down though as the tagteam of Mark Sanchez and Dez Bryant combined for 49 points. Hammertime improved to 5-4 while the Brady Backers fell to 3-6. And it was nice to see GW Bush figured out how to make 2 middle fingers look like a Texas goal post for Brady Backers CEO/Head Coach - King of Kings. It's amazing how some of today's millionaires can think outside of the box isn't it? Drink Beer 148 WV Hoopies 145 Drink Beer got so upset when somebody slipped Gatorade into their pitchers that they almost lost their matchup to a very strong WV Hoopies team. Peyton Hillis spearheaded the scoring for Drink Beer with 39 points while Philip Rivers assisted with 33 points and Ahmad Bradshaw provided 24. The WV Hoopies countered impressively with 40 points from Arian Foster and the Packer Defense tacked on another 32 points. Seeing the scores from other games, this was a very tough one for the Hoopies to lose. That said, those points could prove helpful toward any future tie breakers later on. If the regular season ended today, the Hoopies would occupy the 4th and final playoff spot with their 5-4 record and 1149 points. The BIG Dawgs received a spirited 39 point performance from Peyton Hillis, which was sponsored by a 29 point production from Eli Manning. BIG Dawgs improved to 3-6 and are already warning their next opponent they better bring plenty of smelling salts. Practice Squad got 24 points from Ray Rice and 21 apiece from Aaron Hernandez and Santonio Holmes but came up 2 points short. The team formerly known as Seymore Winz dropped to 4-5 and joined a support group called Blowhards Anonymous. Waiting for Noodles 112 Dirty Dawgs 63 The biggest danger in Waiting for Noodles is they don't wait for you. They received 25 points from the Saints Defense, 21 from Rashard Mendenhall and 20 more from Tom Brady. The Dirty Dawgs received 0 points from Michael Crabtree on bye, Vernon Davis on bye, Frank Gore on bye, and Kevin Kolb on clipboard duty. That was enough to drop them closer to the pack at 6-3 while Waiting for Noodles drops a comfortable anchor in second place at 7-2. SMWHREOVRDWAYNEBOWE 114 Warrendawg 110 SMWHREOVRDWAYNEBOWE extended their winning streak to 2 games behind the 32 point performance of Jacob Tamme and Dwayne Boweflex's 17 points. Something told us we'd see the suffix of that team name haunting somebody on a gridiron. WarrenDawg received 41 points from team leader TO and 27 from another team leader named Michael Vick. Vick understands it's not the size of the dawg in the fight though; so they fell to 4-5 with the understanding they have to bring it soon and often. BernietheKid 146 Ramrods 144 BernietheKid read the scouting report to his team that Ramrods wants to send opponents home in body bags. They knew Arian Foster and Adrian Peterson like to punish defenders in their path as those 2 scored 40 and 30 points respectively. However, BernietheKid showed up with a Billy the Kid attitude and brought 5 sharpe shooters to win turf on a neutral field in Mayberry. Aaron Rodgers gave him 33 points, Hakeem Nicks added 29, Greg Jennings provided 21, Ronnie Brown had 20 and Reggie Wayne chipped in 19. Ramrods dropped closer to the pack with a 5-4 record while BernietheKid's troops improved to 4-5 with a musical escort from the field titled "I shot the sheriff." The only question left is did they shoot Andy Griffen or Barney Fyfe? And this just in, remember the last time Ramrods lost when he made his team push the bus home? This time they are CARRYING the bus home following his short post game speech. It went exactly as follows: "THEY HIT, WE QUIT - THAT'S IT!!!" Do you get the feeling people 1-2 counties away also understood the shit just hit the fan? You can't pay for this kind of entertainment folks! WachuTlknBoutHillis 79 RPrepublic 55 WachuTlknBoutHillis got 30 points from DeSean Jackson and 13 from Peyton Manning as they improved to 4-5. RPrepublic had 5 starters combine for 0 points to nullify a 32 point effort from the Packer Defense. They fell to 2-7. On their behalf, they only started 1 guy on a bye week but they never started anyone at the W/R position. Looking at the score, would 2 starters have made up a 24 point deficit? We'll never know. Golfer704u 98 Bulldogs 85 Golfer704u gave the Bulldogs a flea bath before he welcomed them into his football clinic free of charge. Golfer's team remained unbeaten as Philip Rivers led the way with 33 points. Mike Williams was the next best weapon with 18 points. Meanwhile the Bulldogs fell to 4-5 in spite of 19 points from Matt Cassel. Training camp is alot like obedience school. For whatever the reason, commands such as "sick em," "fetch" and "catch" weren't working for the Bulldogs. However, when Golfer told them to sit or stay - they listened just fine. It was like football matchup turned reality television. In other news, the trade deadline for both leagues is this Friday, November 12th. This could be an ideal opportunity for teams to make it happen by shoring up some weaknesses via networking with other competitors. We are heading into the home stretch where there are only 5 regular season games remaining for everyone. The competition is really heating up for the 4 playoff spots in each league. Worth noting: there's been some really close matchups where some people started 3-4 guys on bye weeks. That could end up becoming the difference between making playoffs and missing so don't let that be you from here on out. If you KNOW you are going to be out of town and you cannot set your lineup for any reason - you can PM me on Barkinghard or email me via the fantasy league. Please don't wait until the last minute to do that though. We'll take care of you - because we want you to have fun. - Dawg Warden
