Default The Pen: Week 11 Standings & Summaries

The Pen: Week 11 Standings & Summaries:

WOOF PACK I:

Hammertime 163 Drink Beer 114
A football game is a 60 minute contest that usually takes 3 hours to declare a winner. You mention 60 minutes to some people and they'll tell you that's how long Happy Hour lasts. Staying completely focused on the goal to make the playoffs, the winning team told the other team, "If you Drink Beer - you're gonna get Hammered." They weren't kidding folks. 38 points from Peyton Manning + 36 points from Marques Colston + 26 points from Mike Wallace + 4 other starters in double digits moved Hammertime up to 6-5. Philip Rivers threw in in 31 points for Drink Beer as they dropped to 9-2. Coach Flugel expressed concern that he started too many workaholics. "Every time they hear the word work all they want to do is get drunk." Hammertime pretty much delivered a message league wide that they are for real. If it weren't for sportsmanship, they'd still be scoring!

Comets 169 Port City Blazers 92
Greg Jennings was flying around the gridiron like a bunch a comets last weekend. There's 45 points saying so. On top of that LeSean McCoy added 29, Micheal Turner chipped in 25 and Matt Ryan tossed in 24 to steer the Comets to victory. The Port City Blazers fought back pretty hard with 6 guys in double figures as Chris Johnson led the charge with 20 points. Unfortunately for the Blazers they fell to 5-6 while the Comets improved to 6-5. Both teams are alive and gearing up to try to win their last 3 regular season games so they can make the playoffs.

Jax Pumpkin Heads 130 FBrulz 122
Jax Pumpkin Heads are proving they are very capable of taking over 1st place and making a serious run at being Champions. The Pumpkin Heads defeated a very tough FBrulz team behind Mike Tolberts charge of 28 points and ay Rice's 24 points. They also had 4 other starters that scored in double figures. The 1-2 punch of Aaron Rodgers and Jeremy Maclin provided FBrulz with 43 and 26 points respectively to make this a very close matchup. FBrulz dropped to 4-7 while the Jax Pumpkin Heads improved to 8-3. Both teams are confident they can win all of their last 3 games to put themselves in the post season.

Brady Backers 94 Team DangeRuss 64
A combined 46 points from Cedric Benson (26) and Sam Bradford (20) were just enough to spark up a victory for the Brady Backers. In the process, they kept their post season hopes alive as their record improved to 4-7. Team DangeRuss only had 2 starters in double figures as they slipped 3 games behind the current team in 4th place. They are now 3-8 with no margin of error remaining. Does either team have a 3 game winning streak in them to close the regular season?

WV Hoopies 168 Cleveland Crennels 136
The WV Hoopies needed 40 points from Drew Brees plus 29 points apiece from Reggie Wayne and Arian Foster as well as double digit performances from 4 other starters in order to defeat the Cleveland Crennels. This was a high scoring slugfest that put a combined 304 points on the scoreboard. Cleveland Crennels had 7 starters in double figures with Santana Moss giving them a team high 27 points and Knowshon Moreno adding his 24 points. If the season were to end today, the WV Hoopies at 7-4 and the Cleveland Crennels at 6-5 would have the 3rd and 4th playoff spots. Heading into Thanksgiving, they can be very thankful their efforts have them in a healthy position.

Thaaktown 140 BrownOut 110
If we had to pick what team allowed the Beverly Hillbilles to sneak in and run their operation, it would have to be Thaaktown. They continue to start guys that aren't active and win almost in spite of it. Jethro said, "I'm gonna start me that feller with 3 different names Maurice Jones-Drew." That gave them 31 points. Jed said "I'm thinking about hunting season so let's start the guy named Bowe." Dwayne Bowe rewarded that choice with 33 points. Ellie Mae said she was horny and indecisive so she wanted 11 guys wearing purple that like to play rough and put people on their back. And that was the edited version but she started the Raven Defense. 26 points later, this was another wise decision that made Thaaktown victorious, 5-6, and in the mix. Steve Johnson led BrownOut with 44 points and Larry Fitzgerald tacked on another 21 but it wasn't enough to overcome 0 points from CJ Spiller and Dan Carpenter. BrownOut is still alive for the post season at 3-8 but they will have to win 3 straight and get a little help from the fantasy football gods.

Standings W-L Pts
Drink Beer 9-2 1497
Jax Pumpkin Heads 8-3 1362
WV Hoopies 7-4 1413
Cleveland Crennels 6-5 1412
Comets 6-5 1338
Hammertime 6-5 1248
Port City Blazers 5-61356
Thaaktown 5-6 1119
FBrulz 4-7 1187
Brady Backers 4-7 1147
Team DangeRuss 3-8 1140
BrownOut 3-8 1020

Week 12 Matchups:
Port City Blazers vrs FBrulz
Jax Pumpkin Heads vrs Brady Backers
Team DangeRuss vrs WV Hoopies
Drink Beer vrs BrownOut
Hammertime vrs Cleveland Crennels
Thaaktown vrs Comets

WOOF PACK II:

Practice Squad 130 Bulldogs 99
Practice Squad tamed the Bulldogs behind 24 points from Ray Rice and 6 other starters scoring in double digits. The Bulldogs were led by Chris Johnson's 20 points and Matt Cassel provided another 19. The victory improved Practice Squad to 6-5 while the Bulldogs are 5-6. The competitive spirit of both teams are focusign only on the remaining 3 weeks as they should. There's literally 10 teams alive and fighting for the final 3 playoff spots in Woof Pack II.

Golfer704u 140 Waiting for Noodles 107
Golfer704u bounced back with a victory behind the 1-2 punch of Maurice Jones-Drew with 31 points and LeSean McCoy's 29 points. They improved to 10-1 and became the first team in either league to clinch a playoff spot. Waiting for Noodles received 36 points from Marques Colston and 19 from Tom Brady but it wasn't enough to prevent them from dropping to 7-4. These 2 heavyweights might be squaring off again in the post season.

BIG Dawgs 121 WarrenDawg 97
The BIG Dawgs have extended their winning streak to 3 games as they improved to 5-6. Rumor has it Head Coach & CEO (Hiwaygal) has landed a contract with Gatorade and Danica Patrick is very concerned about the competition. The victory was made possible thanks in large to the 27 point performance of Santana Moss and the 25 point effort of Peyton Hillis. They also had 4 other starters in double digits. Michael Vick battled with 19 points and Matt Forte supplied 17 more for WarrenDawg; but it wasn't quite enough to coll of those BIG Dawgs. Somebody must really like those Gatorade showers to punctuate the victories. WarrenDawg is now 5-6 as well. Both teams are still in the hunt for the playoffs so don't touch that dial.

Ramrods 113 Dirty Dawgs 105
Arian Foster 29, Mike Wallace 26 and Matt Ryan 24 were the winning ingredients for Ramrods as they improved to 6-5. The Ditka throwback was overheard from at least 1 county away with, "WE BECAME A TEAM!" The Dirty Dawgs refused to make it easy as Cedric Benson provided 26 points, the Steeler Defense had 25 points and Larry Fitzgerald scored 21. Unfortunately, the Dirty Dawgs didn't make it easy on themselves either as Kevin Kolb scored 0 points because he doesn't start at QB for Philly any more. Right now, the margin of error in this competitive league is starting that 1 player who won't be playing on Sunday. It could be the difference between making the playoffs and missing them.

SMWHREOVRDWAYNEBOWE 187 WachuTlknBoutHillis 153
For some inexplicable reason, teams recently scoring 153 points are coming out on the losing end. The latest theory is that SMWHREOVRDWAYNEBOWE has emerged as the hottest team in the league. We're trying hard here to refrain from calling those guys Hooters. Here's the 3 pronged attack they centered their game plans on: Ryan Fitzpatrick which produced 38 points, Dwayne Bowe added 33 points, and Fred Jackson stealthed in 32. Peyton Manning scored 38 points, Mike Tolbert assisted with 28 and Kowshon Moreno supported with 24 for WachuTlknBoutHillis. WachuTlknBoutHillis is now 5-6 in the standings while SMWHREOVRDWAYNEBOWE has won 4 consecutive games with reason to think they can compete for a playoff spot.

BernietheKid 148 RPrepublic 88
Greg Jennings scored 45 points, Aaron Rodgers supplied 43 and Jeremy Maclin contributed 26 points to spearhead BernietheKid to victory. BernietheKid is all in on this playoff race now with a 5-6 record. The Browns defense led RPrepublic with 26 points but injuries to Dexter McCluster and Ben Watson had those 2 players combined for 0 points. RPrepublic dropped to 2-9, which eliminates them from a shot at the playoffs. However, they can have some fun down the stretch eliminating others from the playoffs.

I dropped the ball and forgot about my team this week. I can't believe I lost to an inactive! How embarrassing.

Steve Johnson was a really nice late pick-up if I do say so myself.

Great job Tom!

Thanks Gabe!

Don't beat yourself up about this week's outcome - your opponent scored 140 points.
Steve Johnson was an ideal pickup. You can still have alot of fun these last 3 weeks and do some damage with that roster of your's. Let er rip and see where the chips fall.

Better than having Peyton Manning and Randy Moss on your team and losing to Ryan Fitzpatrick, Dwayne Bowe, and Fred Jackson...

I just can't catch a break this year.

LOL! You scored 163 points so I was impressed. Anyway, you are tied for 4th place with your 6-5 record.

Here's how Yahoo's tie breaker system for determining playoff eligibility:
1) Winning Percentage
2) Total Points
3) Week 17 points scored
4) Week 16 poinst scored
5) Week 15 points and as far as back as it needs to go...

I'm a little disappointed head to head isn't factored in; BUT some teams play each other twice. If 2 teams split head to head it can get complicated.

In any event the top 4 teams make the playoffs. The next 4 teams make a consolation playoff bracket to duke it out for 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th place. People tend to have alot of fun with the consolation bracket too. It's 2 more weeks for the competitive minded folks to improve upon their overall record.

I can't wait to see how much smack Ramrods and DaBrowns talk down in that braket!

LOL! They've been disturbingly quiet toward each other lately Golfer. When you put 2 alphas in the same litter - the oneupsmanship packs an entertainment factor that is 2nd to none.

Do you think one of those guys is scared of the other all of a sudden?
