Default vBulletin basics

I thought it would be good to have a Q&A about vBulletin for basic user controls. Anytime someone asks you a question about the controls, try and post it here, and we will build a FAQ for people new to the format. For example, I had someone asking how to put another user on ignore (actually they thought we didn't have an ignore feature. So the following is the process to add a user to your ignore list.

There are actually two ways to put users on ignore. First, you can go to the individual you want to ignores user page, select "user lists", then select "add user to ignore list". Second you can do it from your user control panel by selecting edit ignore list, then typing in the name of the person you want to ignore.

Feel free to ask questions here if you have any, or post answers if you know any.

Disabling or enabling Avatars/Signatures/Images.

Some people use different devices (mobile devices) to connect to the site, and don't want to see Avatar, signatures, or attached images.

To disable any of the above, go to "user control panel", then go to "edit options", then all the way at the bottom uncheck the appropriate box.

If you want to post a small .jpg or .gif image in the chat box, it is simple:

[ i m g ] before the photo AND [ / i m g ] after the photo (without the spaces, of course).

Good Luck!

The key word here is small.

Another CHATBOX tip:

You can EDIT or DELETE a message you entered into chat (really...cool)...directions below:

- Above (where you enter the text at), you will see "Chatbox \/" (with a Dropdown arrow).
- Click on the Dropdown arrow AND scroll down to "Find your last message"
- To DELETE your message, CLICK on the Dropdown arrow (next to your name) for that message, scroll down to "Delete This Message".
- OR to just EDIT your message, CLICK "Edit", which is to the right of your message.

That's it, who would have thought you could correct a mistake in a chatroom!

Using and utilizing the Tags function. At the bottom of threads there is a section that includes a list of tags associated with the thread, a link to Tags, and an edit tag control. By filling out the tags, it makes it much easier to find things with the search control, and adds information to the "Tag Cloud".

To add Tags to a thread, scroll all the way to the bottom, click edit tags, then in the pop up box that appears enter any tags you feel are appropriate. I believe the OP (original poster) can enter up to 5 tags, while subsequent posters can enter 2. To enter multiple tags, separate each tag with a , as instructed in the pop up box.

Adding tags to your threads makes it easier to find them using the search function, and can aid the website by providing a list of topics discussed for search engines such as google.
