This Thursday night, I pop my comedic cherry!!

For those of you who have known me for a while know that I'm a fan of comedy, and I like making people laugh. I've always thought about perhaps doing stand up comedy, but I was too much of a pussy in a lot of respects, and we never had a comedy club around here. Well we just had one open up a few months ago (unbeknown st to me). Well my buddy is also a pretty funny guy, and last thurs he went up there on open mic night and did about 5 min worth of material.

So that in and of itself inspired me to just take the plunge. The comedy club is really cool. It's small and the owner of the club is a real big advocate in giving new comics a platform where they can go and practice their material in a place where they're not gonna get their nuts ripped off by hecklers.

So I've put together maybe around 10 min of material, and I'm gonna go up there guns blazing, wish me luck. I don't want to get a head of myself, but if I could eventually turn this into a paying gig I could die a happy man. It's the dream job. You never have to get up early, you can drink beer at work, or show up to work stoned, and nobody will think anything of it. Now I'm not having any delusions of grandeur about becoming a world famous comedian, but like I said, it's always something I wanted to do, but never had the opportunity. Perhaps for the first time in a long time, that knock on my door really is opportunity and not just another bill collector!

Good luck man!! Wheres it at? The funny stop in akron? I was there a few weeks ago, I was thinking about eventually doing stand up, it just seems so nerve wrecking, Making ppl laugh when they expect you too seems difficult

PGL, I live in Wilmington NC. We just got this new comedy club called Nutt Street comedy.

It's a super small club that's actually the basement of another club, which is a perfect venue for somebody doing this for the first time.

Considering my language and demeanor you might be surprised to learn that I've actually preached in several different churches over the years, so public speaking isn't a problem for me, and when I did preach I would make some jokes and they laughed pretty good, so I figure if I can make some stuffy white church folks laugh then this should be fairly easy, but who knows, like PGL said, making somebody laugh when they're expecting to laugh isn't an easy thing so who knows. I can take solice in the fat that every great comedian has bombed several times in their career, so even if I suck ass, it's not the end of the world.
