He was making split second decisions all night as I was hearing Dan Fouts saying over and over this kid is the REAL deal. Can you get a better understanding of what's required for the NFL QB position than Dan Fouts? VY was only a JUNIOR which critics always want to forget rather conveniently. Even though college passer ratings do not equate to the NFL passer ratings - he was the #1 rated passer in DI football in spite of all those saying he's just a RB.

In a bottom line league: VY is 26-13 as a starter when his 1st 2 starting WRs were Drew Bennett and Bobby Wade from a capped out mess that deserved to draft 3rd overall. After Kerry Collins led them to 0-5 in 2006, VY led them to 8 wins of the last 11 games and erased 7 2nd half deficits in the process. And guess what all his critics had to say about the rookie? "Oh yaaa? Look at his passer ratings." Oh geee, I almost forgot how much better they looked with Kerry Collins sporting a 43 passer rating with all that wonderful surrounding talent the first 5 weeks of 06.

Flugs ...I've always stuck to my VY guns as well...I am from Austin Texas...while I think the world of VY's abilities....Colt needs more arm! In another Rich moment....I'm the only guy to point out and stick to...Josh Freeman...everyone said he'd be a third rounder at best, I said he'd be a first rounder and be good! Yey for me!!! LOL

Props to Fluges for sticking by his guy. I'm gonna stick by mine, too. I like Leinart. I think he got blitzed and hit on every play but got to his hot read over and over. I think the Cards will make a HUGE mistake if they start Anderson.

And going 4 for 6 and no picks while the running game was going backwards... how do you judge a guy on that? I don't get it. I'm sure the guy has some serious fucking pissed off brewing in him right now.

If Vince Young started making miracles and feeding the hungry, I'd still struggle to like him after that day I've blacked out of my memory. I mean... I gotta be honest. He's the enemy.

Isn't Derek Anderson the guy who sang "my sharona"?

A one hit wonder.

I just leafed through some Cardinal message boards and they had a very striking resemblance to our boards the past few years.
There must be ten threads on every front page of every board on QB's and how frustrated they are that they have no leader.
It's in those threads where I see how constantly talking about QB's get's annoying but it's born from frustration of sucking so bad.
They all seem smart enough to know that DA is a mirage though, they get credit for that.

I believe it's sad beyond belief when an UDFA rookie from BYU named Max Hall most of us had never heard of or could have cared less about, outplays your 1st round picked QB and his supposed backup by a large margin.

Really. if Hall gets the ax over those 2 clowns there's no justice in this world.
I took time to watch the game just to see how bad DA and Matty could stink it up and was pleasently suprised at this kid.
7/15 (I saw 4 of those incompletions as on the money but just dropped by the wrs) for 101 yards a touchdown and a pick doesn't do justice as to how well Hall really played.
He showed more pocket presence than either DA or Matty. He just looked like a natural throwing the ball with good accuracy and footwork.
I said it already but I'd love to get this kid here for Big Mike to work with and at worst he's develop into a solid backup.

No knocks on McCoy or any insinuation I want him gone, this is just my observation of a qb that I've never seen before that looked like he had some real potential.
I say put Hall out with the 1st teamers and see if he could beat out those 2 jokers, god that would be a hoot!

And Vince Young did very well.
I watch him play and nothing he does screams "real NFL QB" to me, but he's just flat out a baller that does it. I don't know how, but he gets the results of a "real NFL QB" without looking like or sounding like one.
I'm impressed and amazed he's turning out so well after the breakdown. He's really stepped up his game.

Young is a smooth and instinctive athlete and a much better passer than I figured him for. I also doubt he's as dumb as he tests (the famous 6) or talks (he just sounds like a moron)... but I doubt he's real bright. And that's certainly held him back at the NFL. Slowed his progress.

Again... there's a reason GMs do look at Wonderlic scores and personal interviews and chalkboard work with QBs. It's a position that requires a ton of book learning, a quick mind on the field, and the ability to communicate with and lead teammates.

You can't always get everything you want, and that's kind of the case with Young. You get some amazing athletic ability and a guy who probably plays smarter than he is because he has "it." But you don't get a guy who devours playbooks and teaches those around him, or can articulate himself well to his teammates.

I happen to value that a ton because I see quarterbacks as something more than position players. But Young is winning me over on a lot of other counts.
Do you know what VY has that gets overlooked and underrated constantly? VISION. Sometimes seeing the field better and quicker than others just makes that split second decision so much easier. Because of this he's never had to strain his brain. Have you ever seen a video game junkie with a joystick? IMO, that's VY on a football field. The LESS time he has to think the better. That can be said about alot of QBs.

FWIW, when I watch QBs like Kyle Boller or Brady Quinn struggle on the field - it looks like they have great difficulty seeing everything. It's not that they can't see per say, it's that they can't see things at the speed of the NFL. They HAVE the smarts and physical tools that made them first round prospects; but NOTHING evaluated vision at the speed of the game. Until we see such an assessment - there's gonna continue to be disappointing 1st round QBs like Alex Smith, Jamarcus Russell, Akili Smith, Ryan Leaf, etc. Of the guys I just mentioned, HOW MANY of them did we hear had impressive workouts? WTF are these workouts measuring that applies to an NFL play? Any corners with closing speed? Any pass rusher's with hands up chasing them or altering throws, mechanics or poise? Any routes adjusting DURING the play? Any wind, rain or mud? No. In fact, it's a scripted/controlled workout often done with hopes of hiding weaknesses. So big deal if another Alex Smith comes along to the praises of "best ever." We almost hear that every year. How much did Bradford's outing vrs us resemble his impressive workout?

Derek Anderson, not Matt Leinart, will start the Cardinals' third exhibition game on Saturday.

Wow. We knew Leinart was losing the confidence of his teammates after playing tentatively in the preseason, but Anderson hasn't exactly been Joe Montana. Coach Ken Whisenhunt says Anderson isn't his permanent starter yet, but he'll play most of the first half and would likely lock up the job with a decent performance. Anderson has some QB2 appeal thanks to all the Cardinals' weapons. His cannon arm wouldn't hurt the fantasy prospects of Larry Fitzgerald.

That is soooo messed up.
Same thing we went through last year, neither guy is capable of stepping up to the plate.

I'm imagining a phone call:

BQ: Hey Matt! How ya' doin?
ML: Well, you know, I've been struggling a bit.
BQ: I feel your pain, bro...I just can't believe we both have gotten beaten out of starting jobs by that Dumb Ass!

Our View: Matt Leinart will come in for the "last two minutes" of the first half and play the third quarter. It sure is starting to look like Anderson will be under center for Arizona come Week 1. It speaks to how poorly Leinart has played this preseason that the Cardinals look ready to go with someone that was almost unspeakably awful last year.

Unspeakably awful.. I'm not even sure that sums up the suckage that was DA
