Default The Leinart/DA Thread

We talked about this a bit in the rookie QB thread, but I think it deserves its own thread.

Quote:
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that "the door has been opened" for Matt Leinart to lose his starting job.
"There's not a lot of confidence in that locker room that Leinart is going to be their long-term quarterback," says Schefter. Schefter names Derek Anderson as the Cards' most likely alternative, though D.A. has also done nothing dating back to OTA season (or 2007, for that matter) to earn any degree of trust. We do expect Leinart to start Week 1, but Monday night's preseason game, as well as the third week of the exhibition season, will go a long way toward determining what sort of leash he's on. In all likelihood, it won't be long. Avoid the situation in fantasy drafts.
via here.

Looks like Horse Balls has landed in a good situation. He wasn't very good in the first pre-season game, so he needs to up his game tonight.

Why does it not surprise me another QB Carl Smith worked heavily with is about to bomb out again?
That's right, Smith with Leinart's college QB coach.

Should we just add Matty to the ruined list now or at the end of the season?

Not sure we can hang Leinart on Smith. IMO Leinart was over valued from day one. He was a product of the talent around him at USC and had a lot of holes people over looked because they saw the USC machine. If he bombs out, I don't think it will be because of a QB coach he had years ago when he was at USC.

It just seems Smith has the touch of death when it comes to working with QBs.
I think Tom Brady was he ONLY qb he spent a season with (after he was already someone) and didn't kill his career.
But Leinart just goes to show....
The "Pro-ready" QB isn't anymore ready than the spread guy and being a "Pro-style" college QB doesn't seem to guarantee a higher success rate than any other offense.

And if you can't beat out the Drive Assassin, you don't deserve to qb in this league.

Well I would never have called Leinart pro-ready, because he wasn't. For sure playing in a pro-style offense doesn't mean you are pro-ready or even capable of being a pro starting QB. All the offenses you play in college don't make up for giant holes in your game that will be glaring at the NFL level.

True, too true.
Think about this, Leinart, Quinn and Claustrich were all labeled the most "pro-ready" QBs to come out the draft in the past 20 years by draft analysts and scouts.
Glad to see it's working out so well for them.

It is kind of funny they were all getting comments like that. People came close to saying Sanchez was pro-ready as well. But I don't think he got that full kiss of death. Though I won't be surprised to see him as a reason the Jets disappoint this season.

DA predictions for tonight.....
1. Both his passes and his nose will be picked.....
2. Someone will say "he's got to take a little mustard off those short passes if he expects that back 6 feet away to catch those"....
3. God will hear the name John Skelton in a prayer from every denomination of Arizona fan, including the atheists....
4. An announcer will say "What the hell were they thinking when HE made the Pro Bowl?!"

Well I have now seen a low and behind his WR pass (side note, that reply of Fits getting hit last week was just a terrible decision by Leinart. Totally failed to read the saftey).

Not able read that blitz coming and ran right into it.

You'd think that the most Hollywood QB in the league would have better body language.

You beat me to mentioning that. Leinart throws behind a guy and fails to read a blitz, he's slumping his shoulders, head down, and shaking it. Vince Young misses his WR on a deep ball, he's smiling and raising his hand like "my bad, we'll get the next one".

Though I think Sanchez might have Leinart beat for most Hollywood QB.
