Troy actually wants to play here, warts and all. The last time we had a QB that actually wanted to play here, and made it happen, we had a bit of a run...............
I would like to see someone with some motivation like that play qb for the Browns. Cant be any worse than the shit we've seen since 2008. We've had a few that match the description as "Prototype". Ug. |
GREAT stuff Mohican! I said that many times as well about the Browns bringing Troy Smith here. I went on record assuring Shep that Troy will be SF's best QB. Not that topping Alex Smith was difficult. They could have brought in Ellen DeGeneres and she would have been the best QB if they didn't pick-up Troy Smith.
I REALLY think there's a Brian Sipe-Drew Brees potential waiting to be tapped. When you think of what an overwhelming majority of people thought about Sipe AND Brees prematurely and BEFORE they were ready to seize the opportunity - it was all about the 1st round hotshots instead. Correct me if I'm wrong but when it was about to be season #3 for Brees, SD decided they needed a REAL QB with the 1st overall pick and they drafted a QB at that spot telling us what about Brees? Not prototypical so he HAD to have a weak arm as much as none of the previous experts and scouting reports questioned his arm strength. Sipe's situation was somewhat different in that he was a 13th round draft pick that people FEARED footballs would resemble kites if he ever threw into a Lake Erie wind current. You see, Mike Phipps was the prototypical guy at #3 overall that was going to get way too many chances to do zero with.
Troy Smith is EXACTLY where Brian Sipe was; and Alex Smith = Mike Phipps. When you gotta fire 5 offensive coordinators - maybe it's time to demote the overpaid bust you drafted in the top 5 of round one whether it's in Cleveland or SF.
Troy Smith's dream was to come and play here at the NFL's version of Walmart employee salary. While I LIKE Seneca Wallace - I'm not sure why we never gave a younger Troy Smith an opportunity to fulfill his dream to come here and offer us everythign Wallace is capable of at a better upside IMO.
Everytime I've mentioned Troy Smith, he had so many critics that hated him telling me such a thought was foolish on TBB and here (a little). Troy replaced Archie Griffen and Orlando Pace as my alltime favorite OSU players. Something about the way he brought OSU back against Michigan in the 2nd half 2 years in a row told me the guy was special. I think in both of those matchups, OSU was already behind 7-0 when Troy Smith took his first snap of the game. Poised, confident and accurate when the game was on the on the line. Too many people want to only remember him for the 1 game he looked human vrs Florida with ZERO protection after 60 days of no football and Heisman banquets. Was Peyton Manning ever summed up unfairly for going O for Florida in 4 successive tries?
I LOVED where we got Colt McCoy this year though. At the same time, I'm happy Troy Smith FINALLY has the opportunity to show SF they can start the RIGHT Smitty.
