Report: Vikings waive Randy Moss

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on November 1, 2010 2:58 PM ET
Randy Moss' bizarre press conference Sunday night wound up being his farewell to the Minnesota Vikings. It's safe to say this time is for good.

NFL Network's Michael Lombardi reports that the Vikings waived Moss on Monday. At his Monday press conference, Vikings coach Brad Childress mentioned that he allowed Moss to stay back in Boston for a few days before re-joining the team. It looks like he can stay there.

We have no reason to believe the story is not true, but PFT can report via a league source that Moss is not yet aware that he's been released.

Moss would now be subject to leave waiver rules and could be claimed by any team. (To clarify, even veterans are subject to the waiver process after the trading deadline. Think Chris Chambers last year.)

The Bills would have the first crack at him because they have the worst record. Any team claiming Moss would have to pay the rest of his $6.4 million base salary. If Moss goes unclaimed -- a distinct possibility we'll know by 4PM Tuesday -- the Vikings owe him the rest of this contract.

Lombardi writes that Childress inform the Vikings in a team meeting that Moss was out. Vikings linebacker Ben Leber has since confirmed the news.

Perhaps there was more to the story of Moss not returning with the team on Sunday night. It's more likely that Moss' press conference frustrated Childress more than he let on. The team saw the direction his lack of cooperation with the team was going.

Either way, two different teams have decided in the last month that Moss' declining production was no longer worth all the trouble of keeping him around.

At least the Patriots got a third-round pick out of it.

And Belicheck gets a great pick and I wouldn''t be surpised if Moss resigns with the Patriots

Do I need to leave the obligatory "Let's bring him to Cleveland" comment?

IMO, he will either retire or he will want to go to a contender like Indy,NE,NO,GB . Pissburgh (I will vomit if they get him)

Indy makes alot of sense considering they lost Clark and Collie. If Indy picks him up they will be in the Superbowl this year

i'm just happy the vikings and cowboys suck. basking in the glow of their abysmal failure puts a warm, sunny spin on a rebuilding season.

No chance of him going to Indy imo. He doesn't fit the players they like and his loafing would never sit well with Manning.

This whole thing creates two scenarios.

One, Randy Moss' value sinks IMO. If he couldn't even be used by old man favre then what good is he to someone like Manning, IMO. He has big play potential but he's clearly lost a step or two and "Randy Moss" doesn't seem like he wants to win a Superbowl with his attitude, his game has hit the toilet. Two teams have said no to Randy Moss.

Two, this makes the NFL look ridiculous, IMO. There's just an element to this whole saga that makes me shake my head, and if you let Moss go back to NE... do you officially cross a line there. People who oversee the activities of the league should just be raising their eyebrows and wondering WTF is going on here. I can't see the Patriots re-signing him...

I honestly don't know where he'll end up but I cannot believe he was cut from the Vikings...

We had a pretty good draft, and I'd like to start seeing some results.
Fans already looking to next year and I don't blame them.
I think we will have things to be excited about that we lacked last year and we have some real facepalm moments just like last year.
It's going to be tough.
