Default What's the Future for The Pickle

With Carolina poised to take Luck with the #1 pick in the draft (if he does decide to come out) what will the future look like for Jimmy "NFL Ready" Clausen. It does seem that Clausen would be expendable but then who would pay much for him.

Here's a good example of a system making a QB project better then he actually may be. Charlie Weis is a offensive guru and made Quinn and Clausen project as NFL ready QBs by minimizing their weaknesses. It's simular to what Pete Carroll was able to do with his QBs at So. Cal. They were surrounded by so much talent that they hid their weaknesses.

I know it's too soon to write off Clausen but he seems destined to follow Quinn as a career backup because of accuracy issues.

I may be off base or talking too soon about his future but I'm getting tired of talking about Mangini's future or Holmgren being the coach next year so I'm just trying to move in a different direction.

I think Panthers will keep him for 2 more seasons. Then trade him.

I wonder if we could trade our short noodle armed QB for the Pickle?

We would have to give up some draft picks too...have you seen the way he spins it?

super bowl champion patriots

after brady goes down in a tragic vlassic truck accident, the patriots go 0-5 following his death. they throw a hail mary and trade all their extra picks for the pickle and he returns the favor by not losing another game and wins the afc championship against the browns in a squeaker (97-96, safety winning the thing) and ends up taking the trophy in an ultimately boring game against the lions who were just happy to be there

Default Jimmah Clausen Remembered.

Christmas Eve, 2008.

After a scintillating 6-6 season, Jimmah Clausen and the Irish go to Hawaii to try to break

their 9 bowl game losing streak against David Veikune and the rest of the (7-6) Rainbows.

David Veikune

Did Jimmah realize this was the pinnacle of his football career?

Is he smiling here because the football on the trophy had the same hairstyle as his?

Probably YES to both.

To be fair, Clausen did put up some monster numbers in that game but, against who.

. . . continuing to be fair, we have to wonder how well would Andrew Luck do if he was

taking snaps behind the 2010 Carolina Panthers O-line.

"Shep" (just another guy on a message board) has an opinion.:
"I was not a huge Colt McCoy fan going into the draft. I thought the Browns should take Clausen.
When they passed on him at 38, I literally crapped myself and threw up at the same time."

I don't know, I mean. Claussen, to his breif defense, showed a lot more in his time with the Panthers this season than Quinn EVER showed as our QB. Does this mean he has a future in the NFL? I can't say for sure. This is the NFL and QB's are always a needed commodity, if he has convinced a few NFL exectutives that he's got the potential. He will be able to find a job. He might still end up like Quinn though. Third stringing behind a novelty QB and a consistently underwritten starter.

BROWNS 2012: Its Weeden's job to lose, it was the second we took him #22 overall.
We had a pretty good draft, and I'd like to start seeing some results.
Fans already looking to next year and I don't blame them.
I think we will have things to be excited about that we lacked last year and we have some real facepalm moments just like last year.
It's going to be tough.
We aren't Barking Hard for nothing.

Unfortunately, his 2 biggest fans living in California didn't want to be the least bit fair to Colt McCoy back in freakin April. Now we just like to have FUN laughing at the Colt McCoy critics (plural meaning MORE than Shep) aligning themselves with the California native Clausen. Why does this topic insinuating we made the RIGHT move with McCoy instead of overvaluing the Pickle in round 2 require witness protection level security? Seriously, what Cleveland fan gets offended by this? It's merely a point that declares McCoy the right move for the Browns just as much as it declares Haden the right move, convenient or not.

Anyway, back to your point above. Seems kind of weird Carolina RBs never have any trouble with the blocking up front whether its Stewart, Williams, or Goodson carrying the ball right? Could it be somebody that doesn't see the field very well in the absence of his dumpoff buddy (Golden tate) with all that YAC and junktime stats he got spoiled with at ND? Carolina's oline has had some key injuries to high round picks like Jeff Otah and others while Williams and Stewart struggle with knees, ankles and turf toes seemingly all the time.

I'm thinking Carolina not only makes a STRONG play for Andrew Luck; but they understand Harbaugh's brother is on the East Coast succeeding as a Head Coach with a much lesser resume that starts with strength and conditioning coach prior to being a STs Coach. Meanwhile, Jim Harbaugh brings NFL experience as a QB before he coached a college prospect into being the best at his position. IF we're gonna make a Head Coaching change, just out of curiosity - why does everyone prefer Gruden to Jim Harbaugh? When you lead FREAKIN Stanford to 11-1 - that's more than Bill Walsh AND Denny Green accomplished at the same place. For a franchise needing a Coach PLUS the powers of Houdini - I'd say we're witnessing quite an example of it. That said, he wasn't born in Ohio like Gruden so he'll get clobbered in the popularity contest here.

I don't. I would consider Jim Harbaugh as coach. The AFCN is not like the PAC10 but I like what he has done. But my reservations are new NFL coach, not a ton of NFL coaching experience, doesn't have a Rolodex full of names for key staff positions, and is coming to a team that could use some experience at all staff positions.

I was hot on Gruden before but I am keeping an open mind now. I would say I am placing Mike Holmgren is the front runner but after that I have no idea.

Huh? In Clausen's first 12 NFL games he has put together 2 TDs, 8 INTs, a 56.8 QBR, 52% completion ratio, 1,376 yards, 115 YPG, and 5.2 Y/A.

In Quinn's 14 NFL games he has put together 10 TD, 9 INT, 66.8 QBR, 52% completion ratio, 1,902 yards, 135 YPG, and 5.4 Y/A.

Clausen has shown about as much, if not less than Quinn. That TD and INT number goes to show that.
