| Source -- Jacksonville Jaguars to release starting QB David Garrard - ESPN The Jacksonville Jaguars have informed starting quarterback David Garrard that they are releasing him with less than a week before the opening game of the season, a source told ESPN.com's John Clayton. Luke McCown will start Sunday's opener against the Tennessee Titans. Garrard's release was first reported by FoxSports.com. This isn't the first time that coach Jack Del Rio has released his starting quarterback before an opener. In 2007, Del Rio named Garrard the starter over incumbent Byron Leftwich. Leftwich was then released on Sept. 1, 2007. Rookie Blaine Gabbert, drafted 10th overall in April's draft, was to begin the season as the third-string quarterback but now will be McCown's backup. |

I don't agree with anybody moving a team, but the Jax fan base doesn't deserve a team. They can always root for Atlanta or Tampa/Miami--even the Skins for that matter. I'd hate to see a market like Buffalo or Minny lose their team while Jax keeps theirs, that would be totally screwed up. They were also the Bottlegate opponent LOL.

Jacksonville doesn't sell out games because fans are tired of the mediocrity that has plagued the team since Jack Del Rio took over the team as HC. Last year all they had to do was beat the Colts late in the season to make the playoffs... they lost the last 3 weeks of the season... the year before that they were sitting at 7-5 and in control of their own destiny for a wild card spot and they lost the last four weeks to finish 7-9. Del Rio is the first HC to keep his job for 9 seasons and never win a divisional crown. Id like to see the Jags have success... as long as they still get stomped by our browns that is

Having lived in Jax for the last 4 + years the problem is much like Riffer said about being spoiled by early success and people are tired of Del Rio but it goes much deeper than that. Many people here are like me - northern transplants. Too many New Yorkers (who drive like shit BTW- sorry Flugs) and holy hell way too many Squeeler fans! I can't drive 5 minutes around here without seeing some Steeler logo on a car which is insane in a state with 3 pro teams. The other problem is most of the people who are actually born and raised here are die hard Gator fans first and foremost and they are rabid about those damn Gators - almost but not quite like Buckeye fans in Cleveland or Columbus, while the Jags are a distant second. If the Jags moved it wouldn't really bother me any but I'd hate to see the Vikings move. The Bills have some good fans but I wouldn't be too suprised if they moved after their old owner passes away. |

Jax, good point. I forgot to mention the transplant thing, and Jax is also one of the smallest markets to begin with. College football and neckar rule the roost in them necks of the woods. The transplants are going to root for their hometown teams and goddamn Puker fans are everywhere anymore, it is like the spread of staph in the Browns locker room circa 4 or 5 years ago. Even Atlanta has a ton of transplatians, and Tampa---although a decent football town--sucks ass supporting baseball. I'd hate to see a city like Minneapolis, Buffalo or San Diego lose their team in lieu of farking Jaxsuck.

I don't know if that is an NFL mandated policy or the local north Florida yahoo's policy but whatever it sucks big time when you don't like the other game on the other network. One more reason I had to get the NFL Ticket. |

The NFL is wary of small markets, though.

On the other hand London would have a great home field advantage especially against teams from the Pacific time zone - the opponents would be running around like zombies and half asleep! |

Honestly, I wasn't here when we had a team and I've read so much point-counterpoint on why they weren't supported enough that I have no idea what I actually believe anymore. But I do know I'd certainly LOVE to have a team here even though it would never come close to how I feel about the Browns. Cavs, Indians, and especially Buckeyes are different. I was never as affiliated with them as I am with the Browns. That L.A. Live area is absolutely STUNNING. Adding a stadium, more hotels, etc.? It's going to be mind blowing. |
