Default Kyle Orton Released

Wow, all the bashing of a 4 - 1 Tebow going on in Denver's FO and the Broncos release Orton? With the way Tebow sacrifices his body Brady Quinn is one step closer to being a starter...

Might be good for a playoff team that just lost their QB like da Bears or Houston.

I say the Texans or Chiefs. Orton's relationship with the Bears is bitter so I don't think they'll be giving him a call.

I think Elway feels kind of like Holmgren felt while explaining away the Browns' 4-0 finish the year before: You know it ain't gonna last. Tebow is basically Bobby Douglass and that won't work for long.

Both were/are right.

This is a class move by John Elway and Denver.

I believe they had hoped Tebow would embarass himself and they could go back to Orton. But once that didn't happen and they know they have to let the whole season play out with Tebow now, and then draft the QB of the future next year, they are letting Orton go play somewhere and have a chance at starting for a team with a chance to make the playoffs. It saves them some cap room too.

If I were the Texans I'd snap him up fast. Although their saying Leinart is developing within the system (politically correct?) I'd grab a guy who has some serious game time this year as opposed to a guy with serious rust.

I have no idea if Leinart's "Act Two" will be a good one or not. He was one of my all-time favorites at USC but his bumpy road with Whiz seemed to leave him gunshy and ear-fucked. He became a dump-off QB and it wasn't pretty.

But Orton damn near became another Fitzpatrick if Miami had pulled off that trade and extended him: An ordinary quarterback with serious limitations paid like a star.

Someone probably jumps, but they won't be getting anything special. Might be Chicago, ironically.

I think it will be Chicago. I don't think it's as bitter there as some might think. And as much as I'd want to pick on you Shep. Caleb Hanie is no Matt Leinart even on his best day.

Lienart in Hou can effectively manage the offense with Schaub out. Hanie can't.

I hope you're right... but last time I watched Matty I winced a lot. He claims his time in Houston has brought his confidence back and a lot of people have been praising him there. But practice is practice.

Rumors on PFT are indeed Chicago but it's also possible that it was a rumor based on someone else's speculation, then further discussed (!).

I'd be pretty surprised if Da Whizz doesn't claim him off waivers. For fucks sake the Cards are so desperate they're starting Richard Bartel so what could it hurt? Pick up Orton, see what he can do then next season either let him walk or give him a contract and let him compete against Kolb for the starting job.

Although that may not work either, there are rumblings that AZ may finally be figuring out that Whisenhunt is a moron that got lucky with Denny Grene's roster and may move on. Although with no 2nd round draft picks for the next two years and major holes all over the team they can't afford to draft a QB so maybe it would work and be in their best interests to get Orton on board.

Kind of a surprise to me but it makes sense in Denver. We will see how Tebow does in the long run but Orton has a track record of playing inconsistent football but when he's on, he's one of the best QB's in the NFL IMO.

Whatever team picks him up will probably get him at a reduced price considering the circumstances but there are teams with QB issues who could take a flier on Orton, what about Seattle?

We had a pretty good draft, and I'd like to start seeing some results.
Fans already looking to next year and I don't blame them.
I think we will have things to be excited about that we lacked last year and we have some real facepalm moments just like last year.
It's going to be tough.

That's a good point KoK, Kolb - when he has not been injured, has been mediocre this season. Do they really think Skelton can be a starter for them? If they get Orton and get hot they might actually sneak into the playoffs this year.
