Default Martyball To Tampa Bay?

Quote:
Marty Schottenheimer is 68 years old and hasn’t coached in the NFL since the Chargers fired him following the 2006 season, but that doesn’t mean he’s done.

ESPN reports that Schottenheimer will interview with the Buccaneers for their head-coaching vacancy on Tuesday.

Schottenheimer’s son Brian has been discussed as a head-coaching candidate this offseason, but not many people expected to hear Marty’s name mentioned for any coaching vacancies. But the Bucs apparently want an old-school coach to whip their roster into shape, and Schottenheimer is certainly that.

As coach of the Browns from 1984 to 1988, the Chiefs from 1989 to 1998, the Redskins in 2001 and the Chargers from 2002 to 2006, Schottenheimer went 200-126-1 in the regular season and 5-13 in the playoffs.

Most recently Schottenheimer was head coach of the Virginia Destroyers of the United Football League.
All I can say is I hope he lands the job. Good luck Marty!

I agree, i'd kill for Martyball. This team with Marty coaching it goes 13-3 this last season IMO.

I've been for Marty every time we hired a new HC. Even when Mangini was the choice.

Eepscially because Marty's forte is taking bad teams and making them good. He may not take them to the step of GREAT. but he would get us respectable again for sure.

HOW IS THAT CHANGE TO NORV TURNER WORKING OUT, SAN DIEGO?

I can't believe that guy still has a HC job. Talk about 'uninspiring'.

I'll take Marty and his knowledge as team Prez over Mike Holmgren and his ineptitude anyday.

Agreed. I was hoping for that and then for him to hire a GM over Mangini back when Holmgren was hired. Marty UNDERSTANDS what it is to be a Cleveland Brown. He would have cared about this fan base.

Holmgren is treating this as hobby, a fun toy to play with and try to make work.

Marty and Mangini would have been an interesting dynamic. If anyone has listened to Marty's radio show they know he respected Eric quite a bit and they already have a relationship started. When Mangini brought Brian to the Jets he asked Brian for Marty's number and would call him up to pick his brain and talk shop. There was a huge amount of mutual respect between those two and Marty probably would be doing some very hands on mentoring right now, taking the opportunity to mold him into his type of HC.

Even with that no longer being a possibility i'd still take Marty over this staff. Especially knowing what his plan would be, that being the same plan he had in San Diego: Coach the team up, rebuild it, get it at a championship level while grooming his son and handing over the reins at just the right time setting that franchise up for decades of winning football(Let's face it, he's NOT going to put his own kid in a losing situation).

Hey Randy, bring back Marty will ya?
