I think it is. Cavs vs Spurs. Cavs in 6.

I can't stand it when a player whines to me or his teammates or his wife or the writers or anyone else.
A whiner is almost always wrong. A winner never whines.

Shit, I don't know... I think Pop's got it goin' again. Have you seen SA play in the past week?
...I caught Sat's game v. HOU.... 'impressive' isn't the right word... they were playing THAT good, like Finals last season.

We'd have a better shot vs. Golden State, IMO.
LeBron's got to reach a level he hasn't played at this season---> That level ONLY HE plays at.
I hope he's just been chillin' from going THERE to let the team gel... and that he'll go THERE when we really need him to.
A Championship's not certain, but I definitely see CLE in the Finals...

Whadyasay we start this thread for the Browns?!!

    Default It's the C's

David wanted the C's now he's got them.
Brad Stevens has done a near Miracle get this rag tag bunch a 7th seed, after trading their best player and best scorer. Coach of the Year for him is not out of this world consideration.

But for my money, the most impressive non-Pop NBA coaching job this year belongs to Brad Stevens. He was able to drag this team to the playoffs while GM Danny Ainge and the rest of the Celtics front office did everything they could to land the Celtics a lottery spot.
Here's hoping we don't have close games with them, we have not the experience as a coach or team to handle that in any series imo. if we do it will be ALL on LBJ and that's a big ask even for him.

Kevin Love needs to find his shot every night over the past month it's been good game bad game. if he lays a couple of eggs LBJ won't trust him and rightly so.

My guess David will only use TT, Delly & Shump off the bench, despite local talking heads saying otherwise. unless we get some blow outs (here's hoping we get alot of them)

On paper player for player we should sweep them, but they will steal a game or two.

I want to do a breakdown but when I have more time.

Cavs/Grizz final to complete the cycle of my heart.

Probably Spurs/Cavs just to ruin LeBron's life... Spurs are in THE zone right now.

Really don't see the Spurs getting thru the west again. no home court baring a upset.
San Antonio Spurs vs L.A. Clippers
if the Spurs win their reward is the Warriors baring a upset.
then Houston Rockets or Memphis Grizzlies my guess.
some team wins it all in the west but not the Spurs again imo

we have the easiest match up imo Nets or Pacers would be harder match up wise for us.

    My thoughts...

    EAST:
    - This could be a 5-gamer for the Hawks. The Nets are like Jeckyl and Hyde... who's going to show up? Nice to see Hollins get this team to the playoffs even though I hate the nets.
    - I feel like the Cavs could sweep Boston, but we don't want to underestimate them.
    - Don't like the Bulls? I was an MJ fan so they have a soft spot plus I love Pau, dude has roots to Memphis and LA. The Bucks are a well coached young team, but can they really beat the Bulls? I just want more of your rationale here.
    - The Raptors have been ice cold lately, I think it will take an extreme effort to push this 7 games, let alone win... I'd love to see them get the monkey off their back and finally win a playoff series but I dunno if this is the year.

    WEST:
    - Can the pelicans push this to 6? I feel like this is another 5-game series...
    - The Mavs will show up to play their rival, but can they overcome Houston with Rondo and Ellis causing a lot of grief for the coach.
    - I think the Clippers are a facade....
    - The Blazers are a real good team, and could give Memphis a lot of trouble. Two of Memphis' key guys are hurt right now, Conley and Allen both d2d. I see this series going 7 games.

    Second round:
Hawks/Wizards: Just skeptical of my Raptors really... I don't think Washington beats Atlanta
Cleveland/Chicago: Great series, but we can beat Chicago.
Warriors/Spurs: I don't think San Antonio can stop Golden State
Rockets/Grizzlies: We've had their number this year, we could win this series.

    Conf. Finals:
Cleveland/Atlanta: 7 games, two best teams in the east, maybe the NBA going the distance. I see Atlanta being very difficult for us.
Warriors/Grizzlies: Too much firepower for the Grizz to contain. Their D isn't quite good enough to slow GS down enough to win 4 games.

    Finals:
Cleveland/Golden State: Damn... this would be an awesome final.

    That's my take...

I just HATE the bulls. mj cost my Cav's a ring plus HOF for those great teams. Price and Daugherty would be in the hall if not for that sob. now you know
the trade of Ron Harper for Danny Ferry killed our chances of ever beat those dam bulls. tears still
Danny Ferry -- the next Larry Bird ....my a$$ bs

Will wait till the second round before picking any winners in that round. lol

Well I already fucked up in my prediction. I used sliding seeds like hockey used to have (so low seed would always play high seed in the semi's) but I think the NBA has locked playoff brackets... BUT it's on record, if its a GS/CLE final I can say I called it also if MEM/CLE :P

Fuck I have to say madworld, in my travels I've met so many sports fans who hate Michael Jordan/The Bulls because he cost their team. That is by far the most tragic story :\

Danny Ferry... better GM than a baller?

Okay lets try this again, for official sake.

    East:
    - Hawks in 5
    - Raptors in 7
    - Bulls in 6
    - Cavs in 7
    West:
    - GS in 5
    - Memphis in 7
    - San Antonio in 6
    - Houston in 6

I flip flop on Raptors/Wizards. We The North, I can't forget that.

For sure the Jazz & Blazers. the Blazers might have been the best team on paper who never won 1.

I agree man. You know I've been skeptical about the true talent of this team and I also feel like Boston could push it at least 5 games, if not 6... I was just as inclined to predict a sweep though. If we end up playing the Bulls in the second round, that's going to be tough.

It's all about match ups (heard that a million times ?) but it's true.
Look at our starters then the other team. with Boston we win all 5. the next round... wait till we find out who that is.

In general terms I question how the 12 players have been used more than the players themselves this year. after watching the last half of that last game... I question it even more. Perk is/was a player we could have afforded more minutes this year, hope David took notice of that the other night. having a guy out there the other team fears would be nice in the physical playoffs.

To me the deciding factor is what LeBron do we see? Say we get a surprise punch in the face Game 1, I'd expect LeBron to take over. Vs. Boston I think LeBron has far greater potential to impose his will offensively. Who do they have that could stop him? Add Kyrie and Love, our other weapons to the mix...

Isiah Thomas is a very talented PG. It will be interesting to see how much of a factor he is matched up against Kyrie... Edit: Apparently Thomas comes off the bench, interesting. I respect Delly on D, but Thomas is very talented. Either way, there's some interesting match-ups Boston could work. I am honestly anticipating Blatt to be out-coached at least early on...

Avery Bradley is a very good defender, but will they even try to match him up against LeBron? That's such a ridiculous physical mismatch. Evan Turner? He's going to have a loooong series if he has the primary responsibility.

Okay can I re-establish my prediction? Cavs in 5...

    yes you can lol

I watch so many of the games it's hard to dismiss teams. any team that makes it this far Can beat anyone on a given night. ...and they have. thus i predicted no sweeps or even 5's this year. but 5 would be my $$ on this one.

    EE Takes a Closer Look!

I decided to give more in-depth thoughts about the first round. What I chose to look at, well I'm no expert, it's mostly just things that amuse me and some insights... I found this link {http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/2015-nba-playoffs-preview/} and I use its "pure plus/minus" stat to select the key players for my match-ups.

    EASTERN CONFERENCE
Atlanta Hawks(1) vs Brooklyn Nets(8): The Hawks set a franchise record for wins this year, with 60. IMO the best TEAM in the playoffs, yes, better than the Spurs. They played more consistently throughout the season that San Antonio did. A ridiculous stat, nearly 80% of the Hawks jumpers UNCONTESTED this season. That is INSANE. You know how you get those shots? Sharing the ball and finding the open man. This is a mismatch in the purest sense of the word. The Nets have some talent, but not enough to overcome the Hawks. Hollins will not be able to coach the Nets to round two with the duct tape roster the Nets have. I am really not sure how a team that was 38-44 even makes the playoffs but such is life in the Eastern Conference. MAYBE the nets win one, but my gut says get your brooms out! Atlanta shares the ball too well and they are overall too strong a team for the Nets to make it interesting. (Key Players: [ATL] Kyle Korver, Paul Milsap [BKN] Deron Williams, Brook Lopez)

Cleveland Cavaliers(2) vs Boston Celtics (7): Speaking of teams that I don't know how they made the playoffs, we play the Celtics! They were tanking, that was the supposed plan. Danny Ainge has amassed a nuclear fallout stockpile of draft picks and coach Stevens has done a very good job with this team but simply put the Cavaliers have way too much talent for the Celtics to hang long term. Like the above series, I think Boston might get lucky and win one, maybe two games. I did say they could push it to seven but the Celtics can play good basketball. I have more faith in the Celtics making our lives hell than the Nets making things interesting for Atlanta but this seems like one of the easier series to predict a sweep (I think you'll see more sweeps in the east in general, at least in the first round). The thing that interests me is that we are strong offensively, and they are strong defensively. That tells me that the Cavs will dictate the game because the Celtics just are not that imposing offensively... (Key Players: [CLE] LeBron James, Kevin Love [BOS] Jared Sullinger, Isiah Thomas)

Chicago Bulls(3) vs Milwaukee Bucks(6): When is Derek Rose going to retire? Dude's played what a dozen games in the last 3 years or so? (He's played 100 games...) How about Jason Kidd? He's got to be the first coach to coach two different teams to the post season in his first two seasons as a head coach. Interesting stat: Pau Gasol lead the NBA in double doubles this season, and was the oldest player in NBA history to do so. The Bucks have a lot of young talent but simply put they're just too raw offensively to really pose a true threat to Chicago. That being said, they're very responsible on defense and they are a team who can create a lot of turnovers. I feel like the Bulls will need at least 6 games to put Milwaukee down. Sorry Bucks, you will not be winning your first playoff series in 14 years... It's still nice to see another young team who was focusing on the future make the playoffs in the weak east though. (Key Players: [CHI] Jimmy Butler, Joakim Noah [MIL] Khris Middleton, Giannis Antetokounmpo)

Toronto Raptors(4) vs Washington Wizards(5): The Raptors and Wizards were both teams who I had predicted strong seasons for, and both teams had kind of underwhelming seasons compared to their expectations. The Raptors, all things considered, having been without their best players DeRozan and Lowry for extended periods and STILL set the franchise record for wins (49, which beats the record of 48 set last season) is why I think maybe the switch will flip in the post season. The Raptors closed the season 25-26, the Wizards closed the season 27-30, so both of these teams are in a zone of mediocre basketball. Key to me will be watching the Wall/Lowry match-up at PG. Both all stars, both carry their team with their effort. Whichever player makes a larger impact could largely dictate which team wins the series. (Key Players: [TOR] Kyle Lowry, Amir Johnson [WAS] John Wall, Bradley Beal)

    WESTERN CONFERENCE
Golden State Warriors(1) vs New Orleans Pellicans(8): We've got two MVP candidates, and two of the best young players in basketball in Curry and Davis facing off here. Anthony Davis had a PER of 30 this year... THIRTY. That means he's TWICE as efficient as an (arbitrarily, as far as I know) "average" NBA player. Every single season, Anthony Davis has set the record of "youngest player with highest PER" beating his own record from the previous season. I know I said the Hawks were the best TEAM in the playoffs, but I forgot about GSW... To put it simply, the Pelicans have the offensive potential to hang with the Warriors, but they do not have the defensive acumen to slow down the Warriors enough to win a couple games, let alone the series. (Key Players: [GS] Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala [NO] Anthony Davis, Jrue Holiday)

Houston Rockets(2) vs Dallas Mavericks(7): The Rockets are the better team here, but Dallas has more depth with their talent. Simply put, although the Mavs have Nowinski, the Mavericks do not have anyone the caliber of James Harden or Dwight Howard. Tyson Chandler should assert himself, that will be a really good match-up. Rondo will be one to watch, now that it's the post season. Do we see the kind of Rondo who can change a game or will his mental lapses cost the Mavericks the post-season? I just don't know if the Mavericks can overcome the firepower of the Rockets. (Key Players: [HOU] James Harden, Dwight Howard [DAL] Monta Ellis, Tyson Chandler)

Los Angeles Clippers(3) vs San Antonio Spurs (6): This might be the most competitive series of the first round. I've called the Clippers a facade, I just don't see their long-term playoff potential. The endgame here will be the fact that the Clippers bench is pretty much completely outclassed by the Spurs bench. Doc is a good coach but Pop is a master, so I anticipate that the Spurs should be able to dispatch the Clippers in 6, maybe 7 games. The Spurs are so good, so complete, and they are hungry. That's why I don't think the Clippers can hang, they will have another extremely disappointing Playoff run, but I think they peaked a year or so ago. (Key Players: [LAC] Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan [SAS] Kawhi Leonard, Danny Green)

Portland Trail Blazers(4) vs Memphis Grizzlies(5): Very disappointing that Memphis fell to 5th from 2nd, but San Antonio could have been the second seed if they won their final game of the season, goes to show just how tight and competitive the West was this year. The reason for this is the Blazers won their divison, but in spite of this the Memphis Grizzlies still have a sort-of home court advantage because they had more wins than Memphis... so Portland would have to play 4 road games if the series goes the distance. The NBA's playoff format is really weird when an 16-team playoff should be pretty straightforward. These two teams are the most evenly matched of any of the playoff series. Memphis needs to dictate the post and the pace of the game if they want to win this series. (Key Players: [POR] Damian Lilard, LaMarcus Alldridge [MEM] Mike Conley, Zach Randolph)

So far so good for the Raptors, dominating the game in the first quarter. The Wizards can't seem to do much to assert themselves.

You could tell Toronto not to go down by 15 after the half too. They clawed their way in to overtime but had no business doing so...
