    Default If NOT Saquon, then.....

We don't plan on taking Saquon.....

    what then is the plan?

    http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agen.../running-back/

believe it or not, Walter's was the best RB list I could find in 5 minutes:

    http://walterfootball.com/draft2018RB.php

Darkwa, Hyde, maybe lesser options Jeremy Hill or McKinnon, could flop.
Darkwa is my #1 target here.... because of the price vs. Hyde. 2 yrs younger too.

    Draft plan, if not Barkley.....
should be a Georgia RB with one of the 2nd Rounders,
cant seem to go wrong with either Nick Chubb or Sony Michel
I'd fall back on Royce Freeman, if necessary. Penny isn't an option to me. He's 3rd string NFL.
Chubb and Royce have been workhorse producers who play injured.
Sony Michel offers top speed and more receiver skill, but DO WE NEED THAT w/ Duke?
Further down, to really fall back on, are options I'd consider like Harris of Alabama, Johnson of Auburn, Mike Weber of our Ohio State. Some will talk about Wadley & Adams, but they were too inconsistent/don't project. A questionable character Lawrence Phillips type guy to possibly take a later shot on is Rodney Anderson. Really impressive runner!
Here is 5 minutes of all his carries vs. Georgia's NFL-stock Defense:

(Also, notice BAKER throwing the game AWAY on multiple occasions)

A 2nd Round pick would be a much more favorable contract than even a guy like Darkwa would be in FA.

If not Saquon then. . . Sony Michel. I think he may be the best pro running back in the draft: good receiver, good runner, fast as all get out.

If we could keep 8 and 9 players from stacking the box every week.. I think Duke and Crow can handle the load.. get a QB and WR that defenses fear then watch them play more zone and open up the lanes for the backs.. simple strategy , folks....

This is the kind of input I was hoping for
    Thanks Eden!

I'd definitely like a rookie over a free agent.... better potential & half the price or less. Bargain price on a non 1st round rookie contract... can't beat it.

It's why if trade-down drafts continued forever, it could be absolutely brilliant.
You just CONTINUE to restock & reload... staying mostly young in a "young man's game"
You lose a lot to free agency (not everyone tho)
but that just means EXTRA picks, at the end of rounds!!! (Compensatory picks!)

    Who would take Royce Freeman?
He's interesting, may be like Matt Forte.
Only had one down yr in college, 2 yrs ago, playing thru injury, which is a plus

I agree - Crow will break more if we get talent outside

but, Now Crowell will cost 2-4 times what that 2nd or 3rd round RB costs.
    and he aint gettin younger
plus, he'll be comfortable/'set' with money,
and it's hard to tell how that will change a guy

..I would only sign Crow to a two year deal.. He's near or at the 4 peak

A good tough runner is the kid from Auburn Kerryon Johnson 5'11" 212 4.45 speed. He played through a shoulder injury in the Peach Bowl against Central Fla, but a little more of a thumper would be a better fit alongside Duke and he doesn't break many tackles.

    After Saquon's gone,
    there's not 5 guys
who Will do the job for us

There's maybe 1-2 that could ever
lead the League in Rushing, like Kareem Hunt.

There's plenty of complimentary backs -
that's what Penny is, if he's Anything...
he's quick and slow... fair for 10yd chunks, not 30
I don't bite on Penny (see Elijhaa Penny, rookie w/ Cardinals)
Rather take a shot on Mike Weber...

There's only 3 RB I like to do the job -
Nick Chubb, Royce Freeman, Sony Michel
We need to take one w/ a 2nd Rnd pick
Not wait for the scraps!! (Matt Dayes in the 7th, who admittedly can be a very nice 7th Rounder)

To me, that's fantasy football stuff. What kind of impact are we looking for Kareem Hunt to make in the AFC Championship Game this coming weekend?

Ask Adrian Peterson how being one of the most dominant running backs of his era helped his career success in Minnesota.

Ask LaDamian Tomlinson how being one of the most dominant running backs of his era helped his career success in San Diego.

That list goes on and on if you care to find examples. Occasionally you get a perfect marriage like Marshaun Lynch in Seattle where a QB (who wasn't drafted by that team) is just the best option for that system and looks like a million bucks. He proved in Oakland that he wasn't washed up but again remind me how big a difference he made.

Our running game is undeniably mediocre, and our offense is not worth getting in to. No one will argue about our need for playmakers. We need a QB plain and simple and we will be mediocre-at-best, if we're lucky, until we get one. Our coach thinks the same thing of the running game that Ray Farmer felt of WR's over 5'10".

As far as our needs, it's a deep draft at CB and RB... shallow at FS and deep but not very special at WR. You factor that in when looking at the big picture including free agency.

Makes sense for the Browns to target a FS in free agency. Otherwise you're looking at being compelled to take Minkah and freaked out if you lose him somehow. It's NOT last year's FS group, which was good and deep.

But you also have to factor in availability. Can you get Joyner or Boston? Seems more likely that Trumaine Johnson and Malcolm Butler will be available.

In a deep RB draft, even without Love, I agree with this:

2017 Draft: Garrett, Peppers, Njoku, Kizer, Ogunjobi, Collins (via trade of 103), Wilson, Johnson, Brantley, Gonzalez, Dayes
    2018 Draft picks: 1, 4, 33, 35, 63, 65, 97, 120, 129, 150, 161, 193 - 12 total (before comp picks)
    2019 EXTRA picks: 7th rnd (w/ Coates)
Philly trade result: C. Coleman, Peppers, Kizer, Kessler, R. Louis, S. Coleman, Drango, Kindred, Payton, 2018 4th & 63rd overall
