I am not going to lie.

I was happy when the news dropped that Hue Jackson was let go. He seemed like he was out of touch with both the city and the football team. He was a deer in the headlights, almost as much as Pat Shurmur was. So I felt very positive about the direction out franchise was going moving forward.

Then I got the news that Todd Haley was fired. I was a tad bit devastated. I loved Todds hard nosed attitude, but I also loved the soft friendly side he showed to players (like when he apologized to Juice, and when he told juice to look after Callaway, and when he was counseling Callaway). I thought Todd could really be our next head coach and maybe take us to the promised land with Baker one day.

When they were both let go I was lost...

Then I really got thinking today.

Greg Williams..

Isnt he the coach we have always wanted? Hard nosed, full of energy and emotion, tough as nails, balls to the wall risk taker?

We (well the majority of us here) have been wanting a head coach like Williams for 2 decades.

He has excelled with our defense, and overcome offensive ineptitude.

What if his fiery leadership style takes us on a run of W's?

What does Greg Williams have to do record wise, to remain the head coach of the Cleveland Browns?

Gregg should not be considered. He's a specialist.

One of my best friends is a devout Bills fan. They loathed them some Gregg Williams, he failed miserably. I originally when Williams was hired stated he would be our next coach ...but over the course of conversations with my friend, I realized he isn't the guy.

While I would love to keep Gregg on defense, I'll pass at HC. I was disappointed to see him promoted to be honest, I was hoping for Saunders ...our Defense likely suffers for this move.

That being said .....he is so much better than Hue Jackson, the effect should be tangible. We very well could and should reel off several wins now that The Stain is gone.

Lets see.

Gregg has only gotten 1 shot in his NFL career at being a head coach despite being a repeated top D coordinator.

His HC record isnt even THAT bad comparatively.

Gregg Williams in 2003 mind you was 17-31 with the Buffalo Bills for 3 seasons (compare that to Hues record). He wasnt even technically fired from the Bills head coaching gig, his contract ran out and they just didnt renew it.

Im 2002 Gregg Williams went 8-8 as head coach of the Bills with Drew Bledsoe and a team of SCRUBS.

In 2003 he got off to a solid 4-3 start but then unraveled as the in-division Patriots went on to a 14-2 season.

After that it seems he ran some ABSOLUTE KILLER defenses for the Redskins... when the HC Joe Gibbs retired, Dan Snyder interviewed Williams for the HC role in Wahsington 4 times.. 4 times.. 4 times.. but ended up giving it to Jim Zorn..

Gregg then went on to the Saints... where he went to his second superbowl with a different team as DC, and this time came out with the W.

Then bountygate... which in my opinion.. was pretty badass.. yet.. bad judgement.

Then he went on to run solid defenses for the rams and titans.. now he's here.

He has quite the resume, and quite the history. In all honesty, he looks like head coach material on paper, and he sounds like head coach material on the microphone.

This is probably GW's last shot at a HChing gig... I'm sure he is going to give his best.. At least thats what I hope... I'm sure the reason TH was let go is because these two firey , headstrong guys just couldnt co-exist..... Let's hope we see some improvement... Go Browns!

I have a sneaking suspicion the announcement of Haley's departure was delayed in part because Williams was asked (when he accepted the HC gig) if he could co-exist with Todd as his OC.

As to those who say Williams has to win them all to keep the job permanently I say- nyet. 6-2 will definitely do it, and 5-3 might. Marty went 4-4 when he took over for Rutigliano, and keeping him on led to the best run we've had in the Super Bowl era.

I was going to say it but Hoorta beat me to it. This team finishes 8-8 and Gregg keeps the job.

Some staff changes to be expected. Now and after the season.

Getting a worthwhile HC who already has HC experience in the NfL is very difficult.

Dorsey already has one. He'd be wise to keep him.

Gregg is starting an 8 game "prove it" stretch. If he learned from his past mistakes, he'll succeed.

Y'all are delusional if you think GGG will be here next year. You really think John Dorsey is going to hedge his job on a 60 year old retread that was here before he got here? No way. He'll want to hire HIS guy, some up and coming young gun.

CBD yesterday saying the players really like him, because he gives it, but can also take it and admits when something didn't work. It's part of the reason the Myles Garrett post game comments didn't mean anything, because Myles knows, like GGG, he can call it like he sees it, and there won't be any hurt feelings.

I lean with Gabe, in that I'd prefer he focus on D, but have read he and Baker hit it off right away and continue to have a great relationship. A no bullshit give and take.

First encounter, as we all recall:
GGG: "Come get some"
Baker: "I'm gonna get more than that"

They're both quick-minded football men, and with GGG, he makes no apologies for who he is, and is accountable.

I doubt he's the long term answer, but I think he and Baker have a super good relationship. Tough, fast-thinking, football types, and they like it about each other.

Frankly, it's Freddie I'm more worried about. I hope he let's Baker make adjustments at the line. Big Ben knocked Haley for the inability to do so in Pittsburgh, and then there was a piece yesterday on Baker vs Mahomes, whereby, Mahomes is allowed to make frequent pre-snap adjustments. Baker hasn't been allowed to, or won't. I have to believe it's the former, as he has the smarts (and I'm betting) willingness to do so.

But here is the deal. Dorsey won't make that decision, Haslam will. Right now, Dorsey is in a relatively strong position, but he has expended some capital in getting Hue fired. You may be right, but I wouldn't count on it. If Gregg wins 3 or 4 games, Haslam might decide to keep him.

How would we know that? If Dorsey spent clout on firing Hue, and the team wins 3-4 games, seems to me that'd give Big John more clout, not less.

I'll also admit if GGG wins 4 games, it's a tougher decision for both men - Haslam and Dorsey.

Obviously, it is just an opinion, but I got the firm impression that Haslam was not as happy about Hue being gone as Dorsey. I also noticed that Haslam resisted the opportunity to hand future decisions over to Dorsey during the press conference. Gregg is Haslam's fifth coach already and I think Haslam would like to repair what Banner did to him. Keeping Gregg would go a long way toward that end.

If we are making future decisions based on how Haslam wants to look - we have bigger problems.

#NiceJobYouFckinOwner

But here is the thing: "we" are not making future decisions. Haslam is the custodian of those decisions and how he wants to look will likely have an effect on how those decisions are made.

I still get the opposite impression. I bet Dorsey gets HIS head coach of choice. He's proven, in his short time here, that he knows football. The team he last built in KC is killing it.

Jimmy loves football (doesn't "know" it), but should have every confidence in Dorsey, and that confidence will improve if we win a few.

Based on what I've seen, and now know what little I know about Dorsey, Haslam would be a fool not to hand him the reigns. Let's not forget, Dorsey was hand picked by Haslam to turn this thing around ;)
