The first CFP rankings of 2020 will be released tonight! This is how I expect them to look:
1. Alabama (7-0)
2. Notre Dame (8-0)
3. Ohio State (4-0)
4. Clemson (7-1)
5. Florida (6-1)
The three best teams in the country are Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State. However, all have their flaws. Alabama's Mac Jones can be pressured into mistakes and the defense is vulnerable. The middle of Clemson's OL needs to be better in the run game and they need to get healthy. Fields can't handle pressure; OSU's RB dou is mediocre and the defense isn't good.
This is how I see it all playing out:
1. Alabama - they win out and beat Florida in the SEC Championship.
2. Ohio State - they win out with the easiest schedule of the 'Big 3' and win the B1G Championship.
3. Clemson - they win out and beat Notre Dame by double digits in the ACC Championship.
4. Notre Dame - Their only loss is to Clemson in the ACC Championship game, which only drops them to #4
CFP Semifinals:
The Sugar Bowl: 1. Alabama vs 2. Notre Dame
- Not much needs to be said here. This is a blowout waiting to happen.
The Rose Bowl: 2. Ohio State vs 3. Clemson
- The match-up everybody here wants. But be careful what you wish for. Ohio State played exactly one elite defense last year and Fields' head was spinning as he threw multiple INT's. Last week, against a mediocre defense in Indiana, Fields was finally pressured for the first time since Clemson and what happened? He threw 3 INT's. Clemson has shown they can pressure Fields, who is mistake prone under pressure. And without Dobbins, the OSU rushing attack is nothing to fear...it's extremely mediocre. This will be a close one, again, but Clemson wins 31-23 and continues their dominance of the Ohio State program.
The National Championship Game: 1. Alabama vs 3. Clemson
- Here we are again...Alabama vs Clemson in the CFP for the 5th time in 6 years. Fitting the two best programs in America continue to meet in the CFP year after year. Clemson is 2-1 vs Alabama in the National Championship games, and 2-2 overall in the CFP. IMO, Alabama evens the national championship record at 2-2 with a win in Miami. Alabama 27, Clemson 26
