I'm back!!!
I've been absent the last few weeks with family engagements, work, etc... But I'm back with the latest installment.
The only big shakeup since the last installment was Oklahoma going down to Kansas State. Wisconsin was not a shake-up as they were always a pretender...and never really had a chance.
The two teams playing the best, most complete football in the country right now are Ohio State & Clemson. Both LSU and Alabama have strong offenses, but both team's defenses are mediocre at the moment.
I have been playing with a power ranking formula. I'm not going to get into all the math behind it, but it counts performance relative to opponents and opponent's performance. So strength of opponents is an element accounted for. The following is my Top 10 based on the formula.
1. Ohio State - 11.9
2. Clemson - 11.8
3. Penn State - 11.7
4. Alabama - 11.7
5. Minnesota - 11.6
6. LSU - 10.1
7. Baylor - 9.9
8. Utah - 9.7
9. Georgia- 9.5
10. Temple - 9.3
With the first CFP rankings coming out this Tuesday, this is how I see the top 4 shaking out:
1. LSU
2. Alabama
3. OSU
4. Clemson
I really think they put LSU and Alabama 1 & 2 to drive the story line the following weekend in the game. They aren't supposed to do this, but there is a lot of money involved and I think that is how it plays out.
What should the first CFP ranking look like?
1. OSU - weak schedule, but has dominated everybody
2. Clemson - Most complete team in the country on both sides of the football
3. LSU - best resume
4. Alabama - worst schedule, but the name Alabama will keep them in top 4
