I wanna talk about this team! I actually have a fascination with these kinds of builds by small market teams, doing it the old fashioned way. Milwaukee and Portland come to mind but the truth is... the Warriors were built by the draft and won a championship with almost all drafted players.
I think the Cavs are building a great nest for a star wing, plain and simple. Literally one piece, not a huge overhaul. I personally would like them to be a little less trade-ey than I think they'll be this season, moving players for picks. I think letting Henson, Knight, and especially Clarkson walk would be foolish.
The latter is right on the verge of being Lou Williams and ain't nobody wants to trade that guy. Clarkson had a career high 17 off the bench last season and is working tirelessly to go to the next level (mostly on catch-and-shoot)... and the next level is 18-20 ppg and that's Lou. You want that guy on your contending team.
Henson is a stretch 5 and rim protector; Knight was the star that never happened but now he's finally healthy... and looking like a star.
Looks like we'll start Garland, Sexton, Love, Tristan, and Cedi. I've read over and over that the coach and team just love Dylan Windler, feel like they stole him, took him ahead of Porter... and everybody in the NBA seemed to know the Cavs were gonna take porter.
The key bench guys will be Nance, Clarkson, Knight, and Windler (when healthy). Porter could get in there while Windler's hurt. I left out Australian Whatsisname Fokhero Dude because I think it's ridiculous to put him above Knight but that seems to be the case. Zizic is dinged but he'll be in that mix as well.
Here's what I would do: I'd plan to keep Garland, Sexton, Love, Cedi, Nance, Clarkson, Knight, Windler, Zizic, Henson, and Porter for 2020. Then I'd draft my elite wing/3 in the top 5. If we could get to 1 or 2, hey, that's ideal.
I think that team could win a lot of games.
