Back In Back
I'm wondering if Pett is officially feeling the heat, meaning he's not thinking about the 2016 draft or the 2016 team - he's thinking about only the upcoming Sunday.
Let's hope so!

Well, looks like it's back to McCown:
Hrm. Any chance his choice of words about being "tasked" may be current and literal? Are Haslam/Farmer/Pettine all in cahoots? Stay the plan of bringing Manziel along slowly, don't put him out there with this jacked up team, get him ready for next yet?
Man, that's thin. Very thin. Thin enough I don't think even I can consider it a legitimate potential explanation.
I'm trying like hell to understand why you keep playing McCown at this point. Outside of there either a) being some issue with Manziel or b) some longer term viewpoint that is supportive of Manziel I can't see any good reason.
I guess it could be that there's no communication between Pettine, Farmer, and Haslam at all. That Pettine is coaching for his job, literaly, and feels his only shot is to win out?
Strange strange days. Or, more aptly for us Browns fans, same same days.

Yeah, I just embedded myself there.
I don't see even the possibility that being "tasked" is literal in the sense you intended.
I could be wrong and it wouldn't be the first time, but I think the problem emanates from the mind of one Mike Pettine. I think the reason he isn't already fired is that Haslam is more afraid of bad PR than losing.
being some issue with Manziel
Can't say I am surprised. Pettine seems to have all characteristics of a control freak. He is a "my way or the highway" kind of guy. And if it comes to that, he is like a captain who is prepared to go down with the ship.
I agree but isn't it interesting this anal type coach has a team that is one of the worst in the NFL in accruing dumb penalties!
"According to NFL.com, Pettine said it's a "disservice to other players just to play a young guy to see what he has," though he added that "as the year goes on, those circumstances can change."
What a load of crap. If these guys had been playing their asses off and competing every game, I might could see it.
But this team has played like crap, and some of that appears (to me) to be a lack of effort at times.
I am not sure I agree that I have seen a lack of effort by the guys at the beginning of games. I must admit that fatigue does tend to set in in the latter parts of games that are out of reach. But when I look at the Cincinnati game, I saw no lack of effort in the first half, and really nothing significant in the third period.
But as for the disservice idea:
Saying that it is a disservice to the other players when the coach plays a young guy to see what he has is ridiculous if you mean players who might have a future with the team. Players who have a future with the team have a vested interest in the future as well as the present. If a young player has the potential to make this team better, it is an advantage of all players around him who have a future with the team for the team to find out if the potential is real.
If we can't win now, team management should at least try to set us up for winning in the future.
Seems elementary to me.
