The Deadline Has Passed

DA Is currently the worst ranked passer in the league.
Quinn is still here and still on the bench, why?

If indeed Quinn sucks worse than the 36th ranked QB in the league you take a 6th and ship him dont you?
More and more im beginning to believe Quinn still has a future with this franchise or at the very least we will see him start again at some point before this season ends.

There just isnt any other rational thought to explain why he is still here.

With Rubin playing solid, I'm surprised Rogers wasn't moved.
With Williams unable to crack the starting linup and his current contract #s, surprised he's still here.
With EM's current malove for the single WORST starting qb in the league, I'm surprised Quinn is still here.
With Cribb's agent screaming holy hell and EM's unhealthy obsession with draft picks, I'm surprised he's still here.

We made no moves, no improvements or placed ourselves to further ourselves in the draft.
Next year is going to suck.

I'm still thinking the money is on Quinn after the bye week, if at all. The thing is, DA will probably have his once a year good game by then solidifying him as the starter.

More telling to me is Mangini's willingness to look past all of the obvious negatives to point out the ever so minimal "good things" DA has done. Very revealing.

His quotes about DA and the QB's this week include:

  • "I'm not looking to make a move, no."
  • "There have been times where we've moved the ball really effectively, and I think the drive that we had at the beginning of the second half [in Pittsburgh] is indicative of things that we can do,"
  • "We have to do a much better job of not stopping ourselves whether it be with the dropped balls or some throws that are a little bit off or it could be tightening up the protection or tightening up the routes -- all those things -- I think we can get better at that.
  • "There were some positive things that I've seen throughout the course of Derek working at quarterback that I think will get better."
  • There's hope for the passing game because "it's clicked at certain points. That means it can click throughout the whole game and click for the rest of the season. So that part's going to come. Hopefully it comes sooner than later."

And as for 4 TD's in the last 72 possessions - "Mangini attributes that to up to 16 drops over the past two games. What's more, Anderson took the Bengals to overtime in his first start of the season, beat the Bills (albeit 6-3), and had the Browns within three points of the Steelers in the third quarter of Sunday's game."

Where as the Browns have made every excuse not to start Quinn, Mangini seems to be looking at the glass half full in every possible way for DA.

I hope I'm wrong, but Quinn goes in if DA gets hurt, or not at all.

Good Lord.

*channeling*

'Cause no one wanted him?

Or, in a more friendly light, no one wanted to offer a good enough draft pick for him.

Or, Mangini DEFINITELY doesn't want Ratliff in there if DA gets hurt.

Or...it really IS all about the money.

Quinn still on the roster

The reasons are most likely rather simple. He's the backup with upside and knows the offense. There is only one place to put the spark plug in the offense. They are presently using the $8million spark plug and keeping the $700thou sparkplug handy just in case. At this point they are prolly still weighing options for starting BQ again. It would be silly to let his escalators kick in this season.

It's not difficult to see that the currently starting QB is not exactly earning his Tom Brady sized paycheck. What can they do? Trade DA? Sure. Everybody wants him. Quinn is still sitting because DA is overpaid and it's guaranteed/already paid.

When 2009 is over, DA will end up in the dumpster behind The Browns' HQ. DA would have to agree to a seriously reduced contract to stay. I doubt he'd go for it.

We'll most likely see BQ later this season. He's still in the 3rd year of a five yr. contract.

Does anyone really believe in Ratliff? He should've been released instead of Bartel.
JMHO
