I'm seriously digging Dorsey's approach so far

If we can get him, get him. When you're #1 in the league sitting on almost 70m, it's smart to keep adding good football players. Add Kendricks and Hankins both. And more if you see a reasonable opportunity.
 
Demario Davis was ranked just above Kendricks. Davis has never been more than a good backup. That's all. So these rankings aren't perfect.
 
Davis had a great year last year. And he was great for the Rams before he came to the Browns. Not true at all that he hasn't been a high level starter before last season.

PFF takes that kind of opinion or prejudice out of it, bases their play by play grades on what the player actually does. Kendricks was #1 in pass rush efficiency for 4-3 LBs... and 10th against the run. Schobert was 24th, believe we're the only team with two in the top 25.

Based on how they played last year, you'd take Kendricks over Collins all day long. And I won't be entirely stunned if that's where it ends, too.

PFF's grades are done by humans... but they're pretty damn spot on most of the time. Notice that Schobert was first in tackles but 24th against the run by PFF. They don't just regurgitate raw stats.
 
look i dont really care who is better man the truth is i cant remember a time when the browns had this many options at certain position groups.

in years past when they have an injury they are playing guys that have no experience. if a LB gets injured they dont have to play Bj bellow type players now.

really the only places that i feel they cant withstand an injury now to the top players are Center, FS or DE. all the others have at least another serviceable guy to plug in.

i hope they dont cut collins why to save a little money ? thats what sashi would have done then when you get 1 or 2 injuries your SOL playing garbage guys at LB.
 
Reading Cleveland media, seems like Kirksey is the safest. Seems like the Browns believe he's headed for greatness, can do a lot of things including rush. Great athlete.

But if the Browns matched what Williams did with the Rams most of the time (main lineup had only Barron and Ogletree at LBs) it'd be Peppers and only one of the traditional LBs.

That's the league we play in now, becoming true of all teams. Traditional off-ball LBs are becoming devalued. Browns used 4 of them more than any other team (by miles), like 44%. Clearly Gregggg didn't like his DBs.

Result: "Linebackers can't cover." Yeah, that's why you usually play 5 DBs and 2 LBs.

That comes down to whether a guy is tough and willing to stick his nose up into the LOS, or not. I think Scho has some toughness about him. Kirksey not so much however, he is a good athlete. Although I know how some feel about athletes round hear ;)

Peppers is not tough enough to play a lb role. He just isn't from what I saw last year. Maybe he takes a big leap this year and proves me wrong. Sashimi's guys days are numbered.
 
Peppers is a bad ass who can seriously hit and scream off the edge. He's a serious talent. I know there's some Team Up North bias and I feel that too... but Peppers playing a position he's suited for is really exciting.

I think he can play the Mark Barron role very well.

If the new hybrid position of a SS/LB is incorporated in this D like other defenses Peppers should benefit and I believe that is 3G's intended use of him this year.

He'll still have to cover TE's and RB's reasonably well though. I know he can hit.
 
Sobleski made the point: Avery was #1 in CFB among off-ball LBs at pass rush efficiency. Kendricks was #1 at the same in the NFL. Finally, Schobert was a college edge transitioned to Mike.

Lots of LBs who can blitz, then add Peppers to the list. Really nice.
