Browns Browns sign Texas WR Isaiah Bond

I'm about done with trying to avoid guys of questionable character in the NFL.

They can do it, but it takes serious commitment by the FO & ownership first and foremost and obviously this FO does not have that type of commitment.

How Isaiah Bond was viewed by the prognosticators:

• Kiper, No. 15 prospect overall, No. 2 WR
• Jordan Reid, ESPN: No. 23 overall, No. 3 WR
• Matt Miller, ESPN: No. 16 overall, No. 3 WR
• Field Yates, ESPN: No. 15 overall, No. 3 WR
• Vinnie Iyer, Sporting News: No. 35 overall, No. 4 WR
• Daniel Jeremiah, NFLN: No. 14 overall, No. 1 WR
• Dane Brugler, The Athletic: No. 15 overall, No. 2 WR
• PFF: No. 25 prospect overall, No. 4 WR
• CBS: No. 22 prospect overall, No. 3 WR
• Fox Sports: No. 28 overall, No. 3 WR

So probably jersey #81 until cut downs?

All of it guaranteed is pretty uncommon, so, safe to say he's a roster 🔒

A typical UDFA contract:
  • Year 1: $795,000 base salary + $10,000 signing bonus (e.g., $50,000 guaranteed)
  • Year 2: $870,000 base salary (non-guaranteed)
  • Year 3: $945,000 base salary (non-guaranteed)

Outstanding.
We added a top notch DT, RB and LB. Addressed our QB situation with two guys who look to at least have some game and belong in the NFL.
And now we add what we think is, a good, speedy WR who catches the ball!
And this makes speedy WR Diontae Johnson expendable since we also are likely to add the little guy WR Gage Larvadain and Jamari Thrash continues to improve.

Have we any Cedric Tillman updates? He was a 3rd round WR pick too.

Here is what Dane Brugler had to say on Bond in his annual draft guide, The Beast, this past April:

"A former track star, Bond is a loose, twitchy athlete with big-time speed, which makes him a threat to make a house call every time he touches the ball. Aside from staying healthy, he needs to improve the discipline and rhythm of his routes and break bad habits at the catch point, although he might never have the play strength to win contested targets. Overall, Bond has unquestioned athletic talent and upside, but he will need to prove to be more reliable within the structure of an offense for an NFL coaching staff to trust him. There is a boom-or-bust element to his projection, but the “boom” will be pretty appealing on Day 2."

Would have been a day 2 pick but not for the assault charges which have been dropped. In other words..he's a free second or third round draft pick for free.. Even with a record udfa contract, it's a very cheap investment. Dude runs a 4.39. Never very productive in college, but loads of potential... obviously the draft guru's all felt that with a day 2 ranking. I read we gave him a. lie detector test.. LOL
