I'd guess the former. He made it clear he didn't want Johnny to go yet. The only way he is playing is if Josh really can't go. And let's face it. Josh is pretty dinged up. Let's hope Johnny is prepared. It's likely he'll play. I'm sure he has painful memories of his game against the Bengals last year. I was at that game so I know I do.

Johnny will be fine. Maybe the O line plays better and the running game comes to life. Flip need to call a smart game. JM got most of the reps last week, so he'll be prepared and fresh.
The defense will play it's best game Thursday, even though they will be missing some key starters.
This is the perfect trap game. The Browns upset the Bengals.

better activate the 3rd string qb also.

id like to see 1 running back get about 25 carries.

blitz until were down by 21 points also.

See Browns fans. It's not just us. It's about winning.

QB can be the problem, the admirable soldier, or the spark.

Sometimes, you just have to give the spark option a chance.

Go Browns.

No, I'm not advocating going after Kap, but I don't mind this QB change to Johnny. At all.

The problem is Wlbert Montgomery like's running back by committee..Wich I find odd.. because Montgomery was a RB himself...

As Ocon posted the Kaep/Newton picture, I thought I'd bring up a few thing that are somewhat off topic. I hope that's cool, although the megathread has somewhat become general discussion. I'll try relate it all to QB.

1. Cam Newton's numbers in spite of their success, combined with Peyton Manning's numbers in spite of their success, is actually a really big deal.

Denver is ranked #1 in total defense, and are loaded with star players that are enough to make you drool. Elite pass rushers, elite secondary. They're just insanely good. Shit, they might actually be better than Seattle was - against all odds.

Carolina is ranked #1 in rushing offense. To put it in perspective, they rush for more yards per game than we allow. Holy fuck! Carolina is also the #10 ranked defense, and #2 in average yards per play (Behind, you guessed it, Denver.)

It goes to show how important it is to have parts around the quarterback. That's why I've been barking up that tree all year. The examples continue - Look at Matt Ryan WITH a defense and WITHOUT a defense. Look at Drew Brees. Look at the Raiders WITH a defense. Look at what has happened to Baltimore, Indy and San Fran with the decline of their defenses.

That is exactly why I'm tough on our "talent" on the defensive side of the ball. Looking over the top teams, we're maybe 10% as talented, which might explain why we're 90% worse. We desperately need to add talent, and figure out what is going on with the rushing game - talent doesn't seem to be the issue, we've invested way too much for that. With that said, a first year rushing game tends to be pretty iffy, it doesn't change the fact Flip has been excellent. I think he can fix it, it just more likely comes next year.

2. With Vernon Davis being traded at the deadline to Denver, it was interesting to see Davis say "Tough to be able to play with a team where you don't have everything you need" when asked about why it was all falling apart. That's pretty damn honest. Dude didn't point at the coaches, of which there are certainly issues, but the talent they have on the field. Keep in mind, he was playing with an insanely talented team not all that long ago, especially on defense. Again, it takes incredible QB play to overcome

3. Part of me wants to love Kaep, and have interest if he's up for grabs. His athleticism is amazing, and he's got a real live arm. The problem with him is the mistakes he constantly makes. Every where there is wide open targets he misses, stupid throws and inaccurate throws. He's certainly talented, but I don't think I'd want the Browns to roll the dice unless they see something I'm missing. If he is indeed up for grabs next year, I think I'd be against getting him unless he was 1. Dirt cheap, 2. Manziel flops BADLY and 3. We miss out on drafting anyone good.

Always liked Kap coming out of college and was hoping we'd pick him up. It could be the old "change of scenery" thing to get him back on track but I agree with BDU. Cheap and no other options.

A. Manziel had a great scrimmage and played better than McCown from that point on.
B. He's 1-0, 22, and looked great in that game.
C. The Browns seriously seem to not wanna play him. Why? Who knows. Nobody knows. Without an answer, we just look like fucktards.

I think we can agree on A through C. Nobody's really a hater or lover of Josh McCown. He's just a guy playing quarterback for a team going nowhere and clearly not our guy for the long haul. It makes the season unbearable.

I haven't felt so disinterested since Couch got hurt and some right guard played quarterback.

I'm rather convinced you actually write scripts and lines for politicians. Take it for what you will.

Actually, if you go back you will find that Montgomery was PLEADING to have one guy step up and be THE GUY!!! Flip is the one that doesn't care if it is by committee or not.

I think Montgomery is also PLEADING for the OL to actually open up some holes for the running game, like we see other teams do!

So true AO..

Crow has gotten a bad rep this year, but what so many people dont realize, Is 2/3rds of crows plays, he is hit by 2 guys in the backfield, or theres a wall where the play is designed to go.

Occasionally I see him miss a cutback lane, but thats going against how a play was "designed"
