It's not really much of a discussion: Every other right-minded team in the NFL would be starting their healthy, 22-year-old, Heisman winning first-round pick under these circumstances: The Browns are 2-7 and the other guy isn't Tom Brady. It's 52-year-old Josh McCown.
Done. End of conversation. You start Manziel. Has he earned it? Well, he won his first start 28-14 with two long touchdown passes. From the O&B scrimmage on he's been better than McCown. His play since then has been up and down... but that's what happens when you get one walk through before you start a football game after your team makes absolutely no effort whatsoever to prepare you prior to that.
When your temp starter is Josh McCown, you have to get starter reps for the long-term guy, which Manziel is until we draft someone else in the top 10.
Sunday is Pettine's worst nightmare: A more prepared Manziel with a healthier cast around him. He could play very, very well and then I don't believe Pettine will be given the choice to send him back to the bench. It'll be a mandate from the top.
