Browns - Myles extended through 2030 w/ no-trade clause | Barking Hard

Browns Myles extended through 2030 w/ no-trade clause

But it didn't cripple the cap. That's just it. Without knowing the official numbers yet, cap guys are saying it's only giving us an additional $4M cap hit this year.

And with players available to be restructured, we have the ability to create around $60M more in space, and can do it throughout free agency as needed, depending who is signed.

Good players get extended before the end of their contract all the time. Lamar demanded a trade, and a month later, he signed back with the Ravens.

$40M/yr is about right. Jamar wants to be the highest pain non-QB. Shoulda done the deal Bengals.
TJ Watt coming up too. Steelers don't like spending $.

Myles' camp made it weird, but, eh, onward.

As Joe Thomas said, a team can't get better by letting its best players go.

Seems like for most, all is already forgiven. Next up will be a free agent veteran QB, other FA's, the draft, and then the Cavs where Myles will likely be waving from the jumbotron at The Rock ... and this last month will be merely a blip in history.

If only $4mill more a year, it seems good. He is about to hit 30, and apparently needed surgery he didn't get last season. What happens when his body starts to break down and we are stuck with all that guaranteed money?

I'm so down on this team ...I hope it was the right move. This contract prevents us from trading him too, correct?

I do think that's the compromise part on the Browns. The 40mil is about what he should get, but now, we can't trade him to football Siberia, unless he approves it.
You wonder if he was told "look, even if we financially could trade you, it can't be to a contender, as the draft comp will be too low". So Garrett's camp concluded, "fine, we'll sign the new deal, but we want a "no Siberia clause", which is what the no-trade clause functions as.

===========

The no trade clause is exactly what makes this difficult. Why?! Why TF do that?!!

We could've made his contract easier for a bunch more teams to trade him to, thereby getting multiple high picks in return. Instead we now have a guy that is open to leaving and may not want to be here save for the money. Guys like Willie McGinest, Trent Dilfer and others.

That locker room is going to be tough and KS is not the type of HC to oversee locker room dysfunction properly let alone rid it from there.

Same old Browns.

2 cents

1) Myles really did want out, and went to a decent amount of effort-ing to do it
2) AB told him, look, we can't do it financially w/o crippling us, and it can't be to a contender, due to poor draft capital return a good team would have to offer. The cap guys said it'd mean trading Ward and Njoku, telling Bitonio no-thanks, and cutting Conklin. That, plus the loss of Garrett, is a complete gutting of cornerstones.
3) So, he said, pay me then, "I'll have to trust you're going to continue to go full-go", and I want a "no trade to football Siberia" clause
4) He'd actually be tradable, financially, after 2 years. Perhaps there was a "give us 2 years, and if it doesn't work out, you can always seek a trade then, and you'll have control over where you go, with the no-trade clause". And to all of that, Myles acquiesced.
5) AB would agree to this because frankly, if he hasn't turned the team around this year or next, it's probably not his problem anymore. He's gone, and Garrett's demands would be the next GM's problem.

There's a word you dont see everyday.

As to 3: I am a little confused what the no-trade clause means. He he wanted to be traded, no? Or does this just give him veto power when a trade would occur? (- which, for cap reasons wont.)

Recall Jerry got 2 firsts and a probowl IDL for Micah.
I'd do that.
Two firsts and a probowl WR though
Let's just embrace we're an off season team and roll with it
Call the Colts, get two firsts and a third (if not a WR). Latu needs a running mate.

Garrett has played hard so far this season. I'll give him that. Maybe not great, but he's trying. That makeshift Vike offensive line played pretty damn well. That Vike coach is good. Can we trade Garrett and Stefanski for Kevin O'Connell?

with all the incredible talent in the NFL D lines
we commit to alex wright & rookie graham.with (insert random below avg. NFL DT)
If we cut any of these guys they'd be lucky to be NFL players ever again.
so given all that MG ties the sack record & we reward that by letting his DC walk out.
signing AJ gives me some hope.hard truth is this team needs another good DT.
a FA. make it happen berry.trading MG would be suicidal for this D and this franchise.
