Browns Pick #144, Sheduer Sanders, QB, Colorado

Yeah, I think it was Zach Wilson who had a stellar first pre-season outing, but, this is a different vibe. Shedeur had to work for his completions.
Like you said, we'll see.
I for one am okay with being excited at the moment, but also knowing there is much more to the story to unfold.

Perhaps in the end, he's being brought along at the pace he needs to be.

Recall Mahomes didn't start until week 17 of his rookie year, and he went 22 of 35 with 0 TD's and 1 INT.
Bo Nix, in 3 series, went 6 for 11 for 31 yards and no TD's yesterday.

Sometimes you need a little luck to break through. Shedeur "gets" a couple hammy injuries to get the opportunity, vs the Panthers. Gabriel will now have to go against the Eagles. Let's just see how this week goes.

This is a chill 12 minutes. Damn. Like he said, he’s comfortable being uncomfortable.

No prep, meh, no nerves anyway.

Chubba Hubbard tries to get a rise out of him. No Manziel finger (although I liked that haha) or Baker back talk (which I didn’t mind either 🤷🏼‍♂️), instead he just cruised back on the field for the next play …

Little shaky at first but that's to be expected.

Thought he looked pretty good once he settled in. Have to keep reminding myself it's the preseason though. Need to see more but I definitely think he is ascending the depth chart.

Starting to believe he may be the answer. Where would Sanders have been taken without the hoopla and shenanigans? I'd say anywhere from 25 (Dart) to 40 (Shough). Where would he be taken next year if he stayed in Colorado? I think most likely he would have continued his development and locked up his spot in the 1st. This would obviously not be an option for Gabriel.

We've done enough damage to this kid's rookie prep. Glad he finally is in the rotation of reps. Rumor has it the plan now is to slide Pickett to IR so we can stash him. I don't hate it, I don't love it. Feels like the coaching staff is playing scared. They appear to REALLY not want to start a rookie in the first month, and Pickett is a guarantee that even if Flacco goes down early, they won't be forced to go to either.

I think the original hope was they'd be fine with Gabriel if Pickett couldn't go. But then the practices began. The Gabriel is this decade's Russell Wilson dream died there. Wilson was immediately head and shoulders the best QB in his rookie training camp against better talent on paper. Gabriel has separated himself from no one, outside of being a whiz in the classroom. Which you would hope would be the case given his decade's long study in college.

You hear the Russ Wilson, and Kyler Murray, comps due to size. But, those two are elite multi-sport athletes.
I surely don't want Gabriel to not do well, but if I were a betting man, and it was between our two rookies, I'd double-down on Sanders in a second. I'd imagine 95% of the fanbase would at this moment in time.

I agree. I think Gabriel is going through similar challenges to Bryce Young in his rookie year. If I'm right, it will probably take awhile when/if he figures it out. I like Gabriel and I thought he'd be better at this point. But it has become as clear as day that Sanders is not a normal 5th Round QB. He's better and should be the focus this season if Flacco can't pull off another run.

Not expected to play. From how things are going, Gabriel's performance won't matter. The Eagles make for a great excuse.

I don't even dislike Gabriel. I'm just finding harder and harder to understand why there appears to be a wall in front of Shedeur when it was supposed to be an open competition, at least for the rookies.
