Browns Pick #5, Mason Graham, DL, Michigan

Graham led IDL rookies in:
  • Hurries
  • Tackles
  • Pressures
  • QB hits
  • Run stops
  • Batted passes

  • He had the top overall grade in his class, and instead of fading in the second half of the season, he got better.
  • On tackles, throw in all the rookie edge players too, and he still lead the class.

mainly to be a run stopper and anchor the line..

a fifth overall? to run stop? you are wrong. go look up recent under #15 picks at DT. all probowlers. not even top 5.
how many top 5 DT since 2010? 5 total.L williams, suh,mcCoy,Q williams DT LEGENDS! sacks! mayhem! and graham? 5.
thats 18 probowls between 4 DT taken #5 or lower since 2010... + grahams bowls to add.:ROFLMAO:
are you guys saying he cant make the probowl? not 1 probowl? unreasonable? playing next to MG?warren?

Its not grahams fault. he was the very best DT the NCAA had to offer in '25
you know when some years theres no NFL QB? or DE? well last year it was DT.
even his peers in the 1st/2nd rds at DT '25 have disappoint. just terrible.
DT like DE & QB you must pick your year correct or..Im sorry we have graham.

next years draft is a tale of two smiths for clevetown. WR- J smith & DT- A smith
again 2x 1st rd targets. get both?win draft.

Mason Graham had 25% more tackles than Warren Sapp’s rookie year
Quinnen Williams had 28 combined tackles (15 solo, 13 assists) in his rookie year in 2019

First rounders have a 50% hit rate.
Every team thinks their first rounder ought to be a probowler, but it just doesn't happen that way
And it's too early to say Graham will never be a probowler

But after 1st rounders like Cam Erving, Manziel, Quinn, Weeden, Corey Coleman, Justin Gilbert, Mingo, Courtney Brown etc (none of whom had even good rookie years), I'm good with Graham's class leading start.

There were 8 DT's taken in the first round from 2023-2025. Here they are:
  • Mason Graham (2025, CLE) – 49 tackles (28 solo, 21 ast)
  • Kenneth Grant (2025, MIA) – 33 tackles (15 solo, 18 ast)
  • Jalen Carter (2023, PHI) – 33 tackles (20 solo, 13 ast)
  • Byron Murphy II (2024, SEA) – 32 tackles (8 solo, 24 ast)
  • Derrick Harmon (2025, PIT) – 27 tackles (11 solo, 16 ast)
  • Calijah Kancey (2023, TB) – 26 tackles (19 solo, 7 ast)
  • Tyleik Williams (2025, DET) – 18 tackles (8 solo, 10 ast)
  • Walter Nolen (2025, ARI) – 11 tackles (8 solo, 3 ast)

Want to see him be better? That's fair.
Put him in the same sentence as Dillon Gabriel (different thread) when talking about last year's Browns draftees? Nah.

sorry, I stopped reading after this.
sapps a HOF'er & truly one of the greats.you are comparing graham as better? comparing? graham?
dont do that.,not fair.just compare him with this years pro bowlers..its bad enough lol
can he make a probowl or not? with tackles?.I mean you just prove MY pov 100%
thats your 1st stat? TACKLES! yikes! BUST! warren? I just hope #99 dont see dis..

lol proving what? hes not a 1st rounder! hes a fifth overall pick! big difference.
compare top 5 picks. like I have you know like 4 time probowler Q williams maybe?
my simple point is not his ability its being overdrafted by a rd. thats my point.
graham at 5 was not a good pick.at 15? maybe.not 5.

Mason Graham's first year stats vs the first DT taken in the draft for the 6 years before (back to Quinnen Williams draft).

Mason Graham
49 tackles, 7 TFL, 0.5 sacks, 4 QB hits, 36 QB pressures

2024:
#16 - Seattle: Byron Murphy, Texas
36 tackles, 2 TFL, 0.5 sacks, 1 QB hit 5 QB Pressures

2023:
#9 - Philly: Jalen Carter, UGA
33 tackles, 8 TFL, 6 sacks, 9 QB Hits, 18 QB pressures

2022:
#13 - Philly: Jordan Davis, UGA
18 tackles, 1 TFL, 0 sacks, 0 QB hits, 1 QB pressure

2021:
0 DT's taken in 1st round

2020:
#7 - Carolina: Derrick Brown, Auburn
34 tackles, 8 TFL, 2 sacks, 8 QB hits, 19 pressures

2019:
#3 - NY Jets: Quinnen Williams, Alabama
28 tackles, 4 TFL, 2.5 sacks, 6 QB hits, 11 QB pressures

Graham had 21 more tackles, 3 more TFL, 2 less sacks, 2 less QB hits, but 25 more pressures than Quinnen Williams. Point being, he was pretty on par with Williams performance. Poo-pooing Graham after year 1 is just some non-ball knowing shit.

We were so much improved up the middle. I think Malik Collins and Schwesinger were the main reasons. But Graham clearly contributed. If we switched draft slots with Schwesinger and Graham would that make you feel better?
Graham was brought in to shore up the porous run defense up the middle. Complaining about sack numbers or comparing him to other DT's rushing the passer is simply retarded. Espcially considering DT's aren't graded on sacks - to scouts, neither are DE's.... but I digress.

49 tackles and 7 TFL are solid for a rookie. He only missed 4 tackles all year and had a 62.4 run stopping grade on PFF.

He isn't close to what he will be - but he had a solid 1st year doing what he was asked to do - stop the run. No doubt he will become a more well rounded DT (pass rushing) as he matures and gains experience.
