[Breaking News] Signed a guard, Zion Johnson, 3 year deal

If you're juiceless, you're useless
PFF grades are pretty average.

Wyatt Teller was the 61st ranked guard in 2025
Zion Johnson was the 84th ranked guard
26 yr-old past 1st rounder
PFF grade below average every year he's played thus far

So on Zion, the glass half full version is:

- 2nd best guard available by some (Matt Bowen)
- PFF grade doesn't match his game tape (per Reisland). Tape is very promising.
- "A young and durable interior blocker with movement traits, Johnson fits in both zone and gap run schemes. He is just entering his prime playing years, with a 90.7% pass block win rate over his four-year career."
- Officially gives us two starters on offense, and if Bitonio returns, only 2 to go.
- Former 1st rounder
- Very high RAS. An Andrew Berry special (see Devon Bush). A mix of elite/great 10 yard spit, 3-cone, bench press, vertical and broad. His height (6'1") was the only knock on his 9.74 RAS score.

From a Chargers beat writer ...

G Zion Johnson

The 26-year-old former first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft will be heading to Cleveland after serving as the Chargers’ most durable player in 2025, playing 100% of the team’s offensive snaps outside of Week 18, when most starters did not suit up as Los Angeles rested its starters in preparation for the playoffs.

Johnson allowed three sacks during this year’s postseason—the third-most among offensive lineman, according to Next Gen Stats. However, he finished the regular season ranked second among guards in run block win rate at 79.3%, while also committing a career-low three penalties across the season.

With Johnson now departing, selecting a guard with the 22nd overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft appears to be an increasingly realistic possibility for Los Angeles. Prospects such as Penn State’s Olaivavega Ioane, Oregon’s Emmanuel Pregnon and Texas A&M’s Chase Bisontis headline the interior offensive line class that could make sense for the Chargers.
