Browns The 2025 hunt for a QB

On our current QB situation, as far as recent history goes...

2023, we had Watson, Dobbs, and DTR on the final 53

Dobbs' signing hx:
  • March 20, 2023, he signed as a free agent on a one-year contract
  • August 24, 2023, he was traded to the Cardinals along with a 2024 seventh-round pick, in exchange for a 2024 fifth-round pick (which we used to draft Thrash)
Final 53 was: Watson, DTR, and PJ.

2024, we had Watson, Winston, DTR, and Huntley on the final 53. Yes, we kept 4 for a hot minute

Huntley's signing hx:
  • March 17, 2024, agreed to a one-year contract at the veteran’s minimum salary of $1.08 million.
  • August 29, 2024, he was released and it was widely known AB tried to trade him, but couldn't find a trade partner
Final 53 was: Watson, Winston, and DTR

2025, Pickett's path to be the same as Dobbs and Huntley? Trade if possible, and release if no trade partner is found?

Pickett's signing hx:
  • March 10, 2025, the Browns acquired him for a 5th rounder from the Ealges. The Eagles used that pick to move up one spot in round 1, to acquire the Chiefs' 31st overall pick, and select linebacker Jihaad Campbell from Alabama
  • August 2025 - Pickett's fate is TBD

To me it doesn't seem prudent to trade or release.

I know Flacco was against training and up and coming QB behind him in Baltimore but that was several years ago. He's 40 now and doesn't have many options.

The smartest thing to do would make it known he is in a mentor role, and keep all three. Let them sit behind him learning and training their asses off. We have a pretty unique position going right now.

Pickett- 1st rounder who was given a short ass leash in Pittsburg and not allowed to develop, has shown flashes, has the arm and has the tools. Potential Frsnchise QB.

Sanders- 1st round talent that fell due to having a circus around him and needing an attitude adjustment Potential Franchise QB.

Hawaiian Short Stack- Well..... I mean.... I got nothing. But hey, you blew a 3rd round pick on the kid so you have to give him an equal shot so you may as well buy him a booster seat and some shoe inserts and try to develop something.

If I were Stefanski I am telling Berry we are keeping them all and working with them all to exhaust 100% of our resources on fixing the QB position.

^^yep^^

In 2026, I'd be good with 1st round QB, Sanders, and Gabriel as our 3. Unless Sanders and/or Gabriel flames out quickly, or establishes himself quickly. That'd be a few years of no vet money going towards a QB, which we need until the Watons finances fizzle on down.

Gabriel is my least liked QB on the roster. I'm with you there.

They ain't trading their rookie QB's unless they fail miserably and they traded for Pickett.

I think Flacco is the guy they'd prefer to trade. The QB room would then have very young guys across the board. They'll wait 'til late in pre-season just in case someone gets hurt, for sure.

Watson. He still has to be reckoned with probably putting him on the IR for the year and forget about him.

Pickett balling out for the season is the best scenario for me. We get wins and a young QB on the rise to either trade for several more 1st round picks plus Allar or keep him and trade the Sanders circus for picks.
Yep.
Flacco is expendable QB in this situation.

But there’s no way the FO could have envisioned this qb room when they signed Flacco.

It is a great problem to have for once.

I have been watching quite a bit of Pickett and his College as well as NFL career and I just can't fathom cutting or trading the kid. He has solid skills and the tools are there to be developed.

Realistically I see this Sanders Circus imploding at some point, to the point we trade or waive him, and I am not high on Gabriel at all so yeah, you gotta keep Pickett and preferably Flacco as well.

Why Reid has Browns trading up for Klubnik in his 2026 NFL mock draft

Jordan Reid discusses why he had the Browns trade up for Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik in his 2026 NFL mock draft.

We know what's going to happen. We are going to be in prime position to grab an elite QB.

Berry is then going to trade backwards for 2027 picks while drafting an overweight lineman with a high SPARQ score, before drafting another QB in the middle of the draft and a 6th round receiver.

Berry is scared of putting his neck on the line for elite skilled positions. Prove me wrong, Andrew.

Seems like the reports are mixed in that both looked good (they better, in non-contact drills).

Grossi the edge to Gabriel.
Stainbrook the edge to Sanders.

They took an equal amount of reps per Grossi.

With Carr's retirement, Pickett to the Saints makes a lot of sense. I'd expect an incentive laden contract based on playing time so that we can recoup value. Something similar to the Fields trade last off-season. Assuming Kellen Moore considered Pickett an asset in Philly when they were together.

Pickett starting for the Browns makes sense to me. Before we trade him we should see what he can do. Unless somebody wants to blow us away with a 1st round pick.

I'd consider a pair of 2's depending on the team's projected draft slot.
A first-round pick for Kenny Pickett? Two 2s? We'd be lucky to get a 4th. Better chance Winston is back in N.O.
