The Offensive Line

Agree Cam had a better game. That snap problem is totally fixable too as it's a cerebral thing, and by all accounts, he's a student-of-the-game type of center (like many O lineman) who is motivated to improve. There is no more embarrassing moment than that for a center.

Whodathunk Cam would have the best performance last night out of our first rounders on the field?

Shelton avg at best. Gilbert and Mingo hanging on by a thread.

Shelton has the best chance to "get there" as D lineman historically take the longest to play at an NFL level. However, we're all talking about Nassib - and THAT's how a first rounder (even though he wasn't) is supposed to land on your football team. With a boom.

Mingo is going to have to flash big time to bump a Tank Carder or D. Alexander off the roster. That Oklahoma kid knows how to close on a tackle, something the D sorely needs.

Gilbert looks done to me. I don't think he's salvageable.

I loved what I saw from Dominique Alexander last night (and the week before in Green Bay). Some of kids farther down the depth chart need to be moved up and play together with some of the better 1s. They've earned it. Only then might we have a defense that can stop (or at least slow) opposing offenses.

Did we settle RT last night vs the Falcons? Pasztor? I still think a) Coleman looks slow, b) Drango looks the part, c) Baily is a reliable utility man, and d) Dan France is a WTF.

Cam seems locked in as the starter and was one yip-snap away from a near flawless night. Greco's reliability is above board.

I think the opening day starters are:
LT - JT
LG - Bitonio
C - Erving
RG - Greco
RT - Pasztor

Based on this being a power gap scheme, that is some serious heft and I think we will see it mesh well.

Gerhart has outplayed Erving. Granted Gerhart has played with the 2's, but way more steady.

He should get some time with the ones to see if he can hold his own as a number 1.

Nassib keeps making plays as a 2nd Rd pick. Erving, a 1st Rd pick, is still a work in progress ala Mingo? Pffffffffft!!

You can say what you want, but it appears that you are talking to air. Apparently, the coaches have already decided, based on what they have seen, that Erving has the higher ceiling. It should be understood that this coaching staff looks at things differently than your man, Pettine. Granted, if Pettine was still here, Gerhart, or someone like him would be the starting center, and, of course, with Pettine as our head coach, we would be looking at 3 wins a season into perpetuity.

Unlike Pettine, Hue and his coaches have demonstrated that if a player has enough talent, they will put up with some mistakes on the way to getting better. These coaches are capable of seeing potential and knowing what it takes to win. And the way to win is to develop guys like Cameron Erving who have a high ceiling and are capable of being a part of a winning team.

Sheesh Cliff, tone it down please.

Hue hasn't proven jack shit just yet so please stop talking like he's "demonstrated" anything that would give Jay, you, I, or any other member of this community deep faith in his judgement. We're all hopeful and the general view of Hue on these boards is overwhelmingly positive. That said, once again, he hasn't coached a single game of record for our franchise.

The quote above is even over the top for a sunshine guy. Erving's been hot dogshit so far and while this last start was progress; Jay's right (or "not wrong" if you prefer) to challenge his play.

I prefaced the portion of my post that you quoted with the following:

You can say what you want, but it appears that you are talking to air. Apparently, the coaches have already decided, based on what they have seen, that Erving has the higher ceiling. It should be understood that this coaching staff looks at things differently than your man, Pettine. I think that, in context, what I said was reasonable. After two year of a head coach who consistently chose the more developed player regardless of ceiling, we have a new regime who does things differently. Unlike the past regime, the new guys are more interested in the ceiling of players than the level of their current development. Accordingly, they are willing to put up with some mistakes while their guys are getting better.

I believe that Hue and his coaches have demonstrated a willingness to go with the more talented guys even when it is not easy to do so. I think that they have demonstrated that with RG3, with Terrelle Pryor with Justin Gilbert and with Cameron Erving. In each of those cases, the general consensus of a majority on this board (and certainly your repeated expressed opinion) has been that each effort was doomed to failure.

Granted, not everything they have tried and will try to do will turn out to be successful. They will have both successes and failures. But I think it is abundantly clear that they have already demonstrated that they will try very hard to make this team better by choosing the best talent they can find to develop and will not take the easy path that Pettine and many on this board have expressed a preference for because they know that if they chose that path, they will fail for the same reason that Pettine failed.

And if this is too over the top for you, I am sorry. It is what I believe. Because, believe it or not, I actually believe that the coaches know more about the talent level of each of the players on this team than most of the guys on this message board and also have a better grasp on how to build an NFL team in Cleveland. ;)

Then leave the fucking forum. We're not going to stop talking football just because you pull the "Coaches know better than you" card whenever it's fucking convenient to your shitty arguments.

Not a chance. I am having fun. We finally have a coaching staff that actually seems to know what they are doing and I am loving it. Talk all you want but don't tell me I am over the top just because I believe in what these guys are doing.

Enjoy it all you want, but don't fucking tell people they can't talk football on a football forum just because they're making better points than you are. All you're doing is making lame as reaches to try and attribute Hue's success to Farmer because you never forgave Pettine for fucking off Brandon Weeden.

Yo Sunshine, no fool should ever judge a guy in shorts and no pads. No QB should be judged that cannot get hit. Preseason game planning is at a minimum. Rotation is heavy. Plays calls are vanilla. Preseason does not mean shit. But if you cannot block in preseason and get protections right your probably will be benched by week 2. Both lines need work and this is not set.

1990 Atalanta Falcons under first year coach Jerry Glanville destroyed every team in the preseason and went 4-0. First game of the season they hung 47 on the Oilers. Everyone in Atalanta was thinking Super Bowl. The media went nuts for them. They were dirty, playing with attitude and they only won 5 games the whole year.

Truth is after 3 weeks of tape every defense coordinator knows what you want to do and how you do it. They start taking things away. No team is giving week one opponents good tape from preseason. Week 4 the real teams are separated from the posers. I will not judge Hue till after that. He has done nothing so far that I have not seen before in Cleveland. BTW weed is legal in my state, I'd send some but you already seem high.

I never mentioned Pettine you did. Get off the Pettine crack already. He's gone and Erving has not impacted games like a 1st round pick should and like some 2nd Rd. picks already are. Erving hasn't earned anything.

Grossi on KNR selling the fact that Cam had played 5 games at center in his life when he was drafted by the Browns. Says as long as there's improvement, they're sticking with him.

No argument with what you are saying in a vacuum. However, I think that RG3 and Pryor have shown enough in the preseason that we can accept that they are legit. And Hue did win 8 games in Oakland and has had a great deal of success with other quarterbacks in the past. Therefore I see no reason to be timid in the face of suggestions that McCown would be a better choice for the QB or that Terrelle Pryor is a waste of time. I am, of course, aware that some Pettine humpers disagree. I don't expect that everything that the coaches attempt to do will be successful. I don't know, for example, how close they are to giving up on Gilbert for example, although I would suspect they are close. But I don't think they are making a mistake by staying with Cameron Erving. I think that Cameron is one tough dude with a ton of talent who just needs some experience, and I think that replacing him with someone that Pettine would likely choose would be a mistake.

Well, for fucking off Weeded AND for not bending over and speading cheeks so Johnny Queen could lay a load of juice up his ass like the #1 Dallas Cowboys sunshine pumper was demanding Pettine do all last season.

Seriously, shut the fuck up about how you hate Pettine already. For that matter shut the fuck up with white knighting Farmer and Holmgren because they drafted a few of your College crushes that bombed ass. It gets old and noone but Cowboysfan even gives a fuck about these guys. Really most wish the bandwagoners would just fuck off and leave already especially if they're going to say we can't have an opinion that disagrees with their weak as fuck ideas about football.

Well, LOL, I bid a Brian Hoyer and then raise you a Colt McCoy. Bet you can't beat that. :D

BTW, I liked one of your posts earlier this morning. And this is the appreciation I get. Bummer. ;)
