I was thinking that earlier but I read something this weekend about how Greco is playing the anchor between two new guys on the OL and he may be the glue at RG to help ease in Cam and Coleman/Drango/AP at RT. Looking forward to things shake out these next two weeks.

1. In 2012 I narrowed the 4th overall pick down to Richardson, Blackmon and Claiborne. All busts, while I said Luke Kuechly wasn't worth such a high selection. Only two hits I had in the draft were Alson Jeffery (often injured but talented) and Lavonte David (More luck than skill) while missing a bunch of pro-bowlers, like Russell Wilson, who were not on my radar.

2. In 2014 I thought Manziel, Bortles, Bridgewater and Carr were all top 10 picks. Only one was. Bortles, who I had as my 3rd QB and I REALLY didn't like Derek Carr, putting a 3rd round grade on him. Both of them are fucking brilliant. I only narrowly had Bridgewater ahead of Manziel, my one saving grace, but those rankings went to shit. I also had a 3rd round grade on Yawin Smallwood, who went in the 7th with the 4th last pick in the draft and hasn't done anything in the NFL.

They need to start using those. McCoy and Hoyer were victories on my part, particularly when it comes from people who insisted Johnny Fuckup was an upstanding citizen and lost their shit for Brandon Weeden who frankly sucked more than McCoy throwing the ball left handed.

The Hoyer hate by the Manuel dags reminded me of the DA hate by all the Quinn fags who couldn't wait to watch the local kid check down all his passes. The Hoyer hate cracks me up, although it's a sad indictment that anyone who dares say anything positive about Hoyer gets shit on for supporting the best QB the Browns have had since Testaverde.

Especially sad we have to take shit for that ON a Browns forum and by people who have left the Browns fan base to follow the Dallas Cowboys twice and who will be gone a 3rd time in the event Johnny Fucktard joins another team.
 
I really liked Hoyer pre-injury. I thought he looked legit and, breaking a lifetime trend, pretty consistently accurate.

I didn't see much of that the next year. He gradually seemed to find his water level, that 56% completion space in a 65% league. With modest arm strength and no threat from his wheels, that can't work.

THAT Hoyer, the pre-injury Hoyer, that's what I see for Cody Kessler's ceiling, realistically. Kessler was accurate in the womb.

The Browns did nothing to improve the line. And the run blocking? Forget it. Still don't have that. If the line can run block then we did nothing to strengthen the run game. Crows not the answer.
 
Me too on Matthews, but don't think he's versatile enough.

However, didn't he pitch a career no-sack shutout in college? I think he did in his final year anyway.

And in limited duty so far, hasn't he also with the Browns?

Like him. Erving looks the part more, but Matthews is O-lineman lifer. He's going to have to have a helluva game to make it. I don't think he'd make it to the PS. And speaking of the PS, the same concern goes for Payton, Louis, and Scoob. If Scoob gets cut, the furthest he falls is to AZ. Arians will snap him up.

I am a bit confused by this. Crow is averaging 4.1, Duke is averaging 5.6, Mostert 6.7, even Watson is at 3.7. That isn't chump change...and the starters (Crow/Duke) combined (against starters) are at 23 carries for 104 yards (4.5 y/c).

I agree the pass protection is in need of work, but most of the sacks were Frantz, with Pasztor next. With that said, the Browns have been running a TON of under center, when it is probably going to be much more Pistol/Shotgun with quick reads once the season starts, which will help immensely.

Well, I am. Of course, it's our "depth" that's impressing, not the overall play.

Specifically:

Alvin Bailey and Spencer Drango continued to be two bright spots for the Browns.
  • Bailey allowed one sack on 41 pass-blocking snaps. This was the only pressure given up by Bailey during the preseason on 56 total pass-blocking snaps.
  • Drango allowed two pressures on 23 pass-blocking snaps versus the Bears, and finished the preseason with just three total pressures allowed on 60 pass-blocking snaps.

If only Cam and Pasztor can manage to be at least average, these two are nice work-in guys.

Drango has caught the eye of many. He's a rookie lock for the 53-man, and it seems like that's been assumed since the beginning.

We have one last dangling hope for the season. That, when Hue puts his best team out there, combined with the preseason knowledge, we'll look competitive in week 1.

But frankly, I'm worried about the 4-0 Eggles.

Mack ran for the hills, via his opting out of his contract.

Schwartz well... maybe they screwed the pooch but maybe they got played too. Either way, I fundamentally disagree with any "we let them walk" narrative.

Now, did we bother to replace them with any kind of amicable talent? No. Hell no we did not.
 
The run game has taken big strides, which is good because Hue loves rushing. I'm far more worried about the pass blocking, that's been relatively weak, but being able to run the ball would be massive going towards assisting the passing offense.

Good, too, is we've also done this largely without JT, who understandably isn't seeing a whole lot of preseason time.
 
I mentioned the run game improving...and the fact that Hue loves to run and use play action off of it (with some zone/read off of it as well) should give the OL some time to gel and allow for the downfield hits. I truly believe the Browns did so much downfield in preseason to show they can and give the run game some room.

It should be interesting if they come out with quick hitters and power running, followed by play action...and 3-4 shots a game.

I vote more, depending on if we get enough reasonable yardage situations. I'd do everything possible to get those safeties playing off and linebackers hesitant in rushing up too quickly. Every time they don't respect our authoritah, put one deep that is either complete or overthrown by 10 yards, anything but a turnover. Doesn't matter if it's 3-4 shots a game or 3-4 shots a half, gotta keep them off so we can run.
