That might be good news. Firstly, it would give our QB another 10th of a second before the rusher hits him. No more of free shots up the middle!! Oh and we could use shot gun without fear of the ball launching over the QB's head. Second this would be his last stop before he's off the line all together.
 
His susceptibility to a bulrush would scare the hell out of me if he were anchoring an edge. The simple fact here is that he has consistently looked lost and overwhelmed from the moment he stepped foot in a live NFL game.
 
From what I've read, RT might be the better fit for Erving. His height and size is more suited to be a tackle than center. He did play tackle in college more than he did play center. Erving is more athletic than strong. He can use space vs holding his ground at tackle vs center. At this point the line isn't great, I could see them moving Erving outside, slide Greco to center, and Pasztor inside to guard. I think Pasztor played better last season as a guard than he has played as a tackle.

I asked my friend this the other day and we couldn't remember. Has Erving played RT in the preseason either of these two years?

He's looked like shit in space primarily when the pass rusher feints a speed rush and switches to a sudden bull rush. He just has no leverage/strength/technique. Its stupefying that his football skill is so retarded. I still can't understand what led us to draft him and the draftniks to have him so highly rated.
 
I think he was too uniformly highly rated after all the poking, prodding, and viewing to suck. He played at the highest level. He started 36 games at LT for FSU and was first team All-ACC doing it, an All-American.

There's quite a bit of logic in moving him to tackle. Just read again that the Browns loved Austin Reiter before they got him and even more after they got him and he'll be given a serious shot to be the starting center.

I don't see Thomas, Bitonio, Greco, Reiter, Drango, Coleman, Pasztor, or Erving off the roster next year. I do see adding another G/C in the draft... but I'd certainly like to do it where there's value, like round 3. The idea of first round centers kinda annoys me. Bad cap management, like paying a shit ton of money to a TE with a concussion history. Honestly, can't even remember where Alex Mack plays now. Are they Super Bowl contenders?

However it'll be their defense that stops them from getting there. They have one of the best offenses in football though. Mack is a part of that. Ryan is having one of his best years because he actually has decent protection.

My brother is a hardcore Falcons fan and I think he said it best - "Has Mack been great for us? Yes. Has he been $10M per year great? No."

They have an extensive list of free agents in 2017 that includes half of their front seven, a starting CB and a lot of key rotational players, and in 2018 they have to lock down Trufant (CB), Matthews (LT) and Freeman (RB) who are all amazing players but currently on rookie contracts.

They've spent the money, but their window is incredibly short, because they cannot afford to re-sign all these key pieces. Over the next two years, Atlanta are going to lose a lot of guys, so they're banking on an immediate return on these investments.

No doubt Mack is amongst the best, but I just can't justify spending that kind of money on him when it's going to cost them younger, more positional valuable players.

I don't think Hue means starting right tackle. Moving Cam to right tackle is just a benching, and he'd be kept off the field while "learning" a new position.
 
Cowboys game:

LT Thomas - Good as usual
LG Drango - Really coming around and stepping up when called upon
C Cam - You have got to be kidding me. This is a great excuse to bench him.
C Greco - Also good as usual, scored the same as JT, and bonus points for flexibility
RG Bailey - Trrrrble. Gave up 3 sacks.
RT Pastor - Another solid outing and he has matched Schwartz's grades for the last 6 weeks.

Seems like there are three things to do after this game.

1. Bench Cam. He's the only lineman who hasn't had to earn his way as a starter. Screw that.
2. Promote Drango. Let him grow.
3. Put Bailey on notice. If he keeps this up, demote him. Try that Cooper guy. He's a guard born and raised.

Thomas/Drango/Greco/Cooper/Pasztor sounds good to me. Alvin Bailey is awful.

Although, I don't know if we need too much work done on the OL when it comes to the 2017 season.

Thomas/Bitonio/Greco vs Reiter/Drango vs rookie/Pasztor vs Coleman.
 
Its a devilish choice BDU. With the rate at which our QB's are getting hit and our inability to consistently run block, I'm not sure how I can say we're good for 2017 with the present OL corps. I tend to agree that we don't have much choice considering the greater needs elsewhere, but we're still looking at question marks at C/RT if not the entire right side. This doesn't speak to the lack of depth as demonstrated by Bailey's performance.
 
That suggestion is banking on development from Coleman and Drango, admittedly, and also on the rumour that the Browns love Reiter.

I'm not too worried about RT because Pasztor has played a whole lot better in recent weeks, and I do love Coleman. My issue is with RG and C. I think Greco is a 'fine' center, while Reiter is fantastic competition if the rumours are true. RG is my issue, which is why I said rookie vs Drango, who played well in the preseason and did pretty well against Dallas.

With that said, I don't mind the Browns looking for upgrades. I am worried about drafting though because this OL class leaves a lot to be desired.
 
Yeah, you have to figure in getting Bitonio and Reiter back and expect development from Drango, Coleman, and even more from Pasztor, who really is turning into a legit starting RT. He's grading well game after game.

I'm not saying I know for a fact that Reiter is next year's starting center. But I have read countless times that the Browns liked him a lot and he had a terrific game before getting hurt. If he's the starter from Jump Street, I imagine he'll be even better when he REALLY knows what he's doing. Harvard guy, think he'll make for a great "QB" for the OL.

If that works out, it's Thomas, Bitonio, Reiter, and Pasztor starting with Coleman, Greco, Drango, and Erving competing for the fifth spot. That doesn't look bad at all to me. Again, I think we'll add a G/C fairly high... but fairly high is like early round 3.

Erving is a really good athlete. Might be smart to start grooming him at LT where he played 95% of his college snaps.
 
Getting Cam outta there and gaining Bitonio is a massive swing in the positive direction for this O-line.

Thomas/Drango/Greco/Cooper/Pasztor also sounds good to me for Thursday. As far as next year, Reiter as an option at center + Shon Coleman's maturation may be enough.

It's so hard to judge the offense when the defense can't get off the field, give any momentum, win the turnover battle, etc etc.

We're having quarters where one 3-&-out is all we get. Yes, 3-&-outs suck, but every team has them, and if it's the only opportunity your D gives you in a quarter, then you feel demoralized and owned.

Fun fact: When Cooper was drafted 7th overall in 2013, he was the highest drafted guard in 27 years.

Not defending him but it's bullshit that Cam got ejected.

I'm a firm believer that the guy who starts the fight should be the guy who takes the wrath. Dudes will defend themselves. You start hitting a guy, a guy is going to hit back. It's psychology 101 that we have an uncontrollable fight or flight response, and an alpha male like Cam (Lol. A freakishly large human in spite of being a beta football player) is programmed to fight back because it's his best chance of survival.

Punish the guys who start it, always, because they're the dudes who actively make the intentional decision to start a fight.
