Houston has problems, so to speak. What a mess, even if Tunsil is a good player (he's not Joe Thomas). They forced their own desperation and now the cupboard is empty. Remember they traded a 3rd for a backup running back before giving away Clowney and putting together a trade package usually reserved for a franchise QB.
OL stuff will definitely take time to sort out and there's no doubt we found ourselves in a situation nobody foresaw, where neither a 33rd pick nor a solid vet f/a could make the team feel comfortable at one of the guard spots. That's fairly insane.
But the moves were really smart. Wyatt Teller was simply more than the Bills thought they got in the 5th round, stepping into the lineup because of injury and comporting himself extremely well, all the way through this preseason. But they added multiple guys at high levels on top of getting healthy and found themselves with a legit trade chip.
He now seems like the Browns drafted a very promising guard in R3 in April. That's what Teller feels like now, a guy who was more valuable than his original draft slot... but because draft pick are overvalued, Dorsey got him for a 5 and a 6, which is considered very aggressive. You don't spend that if you don't think he's a potential starter, and not just for a minute.
Then McCray is a known commodity (to Campen) with great positional versatility... but most importantly in the short term, he's actually played a lot of RG, so he offers immediate depth behind Kush while the Browns get Teller up to speed. Very smart.
Just read some insider stuff that the Browns are nowhere near as down on Corbett as the media and fans, which tend to go black and white, starter or bust. He's still a terrific athlete with plenty of talent who, for now, will be focused on the center position. If Forbes indeed gets more time learning the RT slot, it all adds up for all three young prospects, Teller/Forbes/Corbett. They're on deck and the guess would be that Teller gets to the plate first.
It'll be interesting to see how Kush plays, because he's basically on a series to series audition, at least for a couple weeks.
I know I've said this before, but the Browns approach to the line is going to feel way more Packers-ey now with Campen, not to mention the elite franchises (like Pats) managing it that way ("coaching and continuity," spread out the cap, keep feeding the pipeline, player development). We won't have "the highest paid guards" or a HOF LT, an approach we took while sucking really hard.
While fans are bitching, guys like Teller, Forbes, and Corbett will be learning how to maximize their formidable athleticism... and they'll be joined by a high-ish pick next April (first 3 rounds).
