The Offensive Line

If Teller works out and Kush moves to the IOL swing, we'd be in really good shape on the interior. Curious to see where we are at OT by the end of the year when Forbes and Lamm are in play along with Robinson and Hubbard.

I don't think we need depth guys. I'd feel very good about Kush as the primary on the interior and Lamm as the primary on the outside. I think we'll move on from Hubbard for sure, not as sure about Robinson but it's moving that way.

I don't think there's any chance we'll start two rookies. Could see a starting RT drafted in R1 but the starter at LT is more likely to be a veteran. I think there's definitely a version where Forbes is the starter at RT, certainly physically and athletically superior to Hubbard.

Gonna get some looks at him this season, I bet. They went out of their way to make sure he's available to play.

I don't feel good about Kush in any capacity.. He's stinkola!
 
I just dont think kush,robinson,lamm and hubbard are that top tier talent
we are going to need for baker to be successful
not to be good - they have been good
we need to be above average
IF baker was 6'6" it wouldnt matter
but he aint
 
I trust in Dorsey and Campen to figure out the right unit. Most good teams don't field "franchise left tackles" and the Patriots have shown they'll let one walk if they insist on getting paid like one.

Again, I see three candidates to start at LT next year: Williams, Robinson, and Bitonio. It won't be a rookie drafted at 20 or after (although we could fill the RT slot that way). The guy we draft to play LT could be Williams' successor a few years later.

As a backup to the three interior slots, Kush would be considered high-end. If you dumped him, you'd need to go find him, basically. You don't get great interior blockers to sit on the bench for very long (like the Bills and Teller). Once they show they can play like a starter, they're trade chips.

Teller and Forbes are definitely part of the future, could definitely be our starting right side next year. Bitonio could start at LT and a highly-drafted rookie steps in at guard. Bitonio, Tretter, Teller, and Forbes all start... four guys we know the team really digs plus a first-round guard.
 
OK Shep, you keep talking about Bitonio at LT. I'm not questioning your thinking, but I am questioning is he good enough and why. I know we tried him there in the offseason and maybe pre-season. But what did we find out there? He is elite where he is and just good at LT. Could he excel at LT??

So continuity is the most important thing for an o-line
I dont think moving around your players like that is going to move us forward
as far as I'm concerned bitonio and tretter are playing to the level we need
the other 3 spots need an upgrade IMO

So we draft an OT and a G (1st,2nd round)
If we pick smart theres no reason they cant both earn their spot
and start for this team
2 x OT's is not a bad idea either

there are some nasty o-line players in this years offering
I for one dont mind picking an o-line player too many
If you do end up with too many starters?
I'm sure there's a dozen teams who are willing to trade for them

still doubtful?
just draft the guys and see who wins in camp
robinson might keep his spot
If not his value as a starter has only increased
make deals

and FA?
remember we all thought we'd get an o-line starter in FA last year
when we didnt draft an OT
didn't happen
 
I think it's all on the table. For the most part, you'd rather not flip a bunch of positions at once, but if you gotta, you gotta.

I think Bitonio is third most likely at LT because he's an excellent player with LT athleticism. After Trent Williams and Greg Robinson, I can't come up with another legit, playoff-caliber veteran LT and I don't buy that we'll entrust the job to a rookie drafted 20 or lower. I don't see that happening.

I could definitely see Williams, Bitonio, Tretter, Teller, and Forbes. Could we get our starting ROT in R2, or maybe after a trade up, near the tip-top of R2? Sure. He'd compete with Forbes.

Plenty of roads to Mecca.

McGary and Risner (Risner a 2nd rounder)
not just starting but impressing around the NFL

bredeson,muti or jackson vs forbes for that spot? (mid 2nd round)

Jay, the short thing is dead. Dead and buried. Drew, Kyler, Russ, Minshew, and Baker, Tua on the way... plenty of guys making it work just fine. We're about to have three straight #1 overalls who are 6'1" and under.

Any QB is gonna suffer from inside pressure, shorter guys a little more by a pushed pocket. I think Kush's finesse next to a finesse center who's bulked up a little is a bad combo. Teller is the opposite, ridiculous monkey strength.

I have a gut next year's line is Williams, Bitonio, Tretter, Teller, Forbes. Just a feeling. Kush and Lamm as the primary backups, plus a pretty high pick (like R2 or 3).

all of your posts prior to the season were along the
lines of an ordinary line being just fine.
seems we’re less than ordinary.

it started before he was even drafted
again,we all know height can be overcome
Its not a career defining problem

then they drafted philip rivers
even with a probowl under his belt
no one really thought then that brees would be a long term success at QB
and his size was the reason

then he goes to NO with reggie and the rest is NFL history
what a shocker
breeze becomes a HOF'er and NO becomes a winner
two super long shots in 2005

what was the 1st thing they did to help drew?
went out and got a dominant O-line
without that?
he's in camp to play for the XFL this season

Don't worry about rounds. Campen coached this guy named Bakhtiari who's become the best LT in football, 4th round pick. Teller is gonna be starting for a while and he's a 5th. Forbes is from a small school but Campen loves him, crazy-ass RAS, team clearly loves him (per the G-Rob maneuver).

If you get into the notion that you have to have all highly drafted OL, you don't get to have a high-end QB and therefore aren't in contention. Gotta find a few in rounds 3 to 7.

If it's about draft slot, get Corbett back, he was almost R1.
 
Here's what I'll say about the OL for Sunday: Freddie saying he "wouldn't be afraid" to put McCray at tackle doesn't sound like he's putting McCray at tackle. Sounds more like a message to Robinson, as do all the "consistency" talking points from multiple sources.

I think we'll start Robinson, Bitonio, Tretter, Teller, and Hubbard. If McCray goes in for anybody, should be Hubbard... but last time didn't go well.

Bigger moves in the offseason. Or after the trade dam finally busts open. Gotta be some tackles out there on teams in rebuild mode, need picks.
 
so,to be clear
from rounds 1-5 we cant expect a better player than forbes in the draft?
you are suggesting lets finnesse this problem with some small tweeks

you wouldn't burn our 1st on an OT (esp. wirfs or thomas?)
