I project 5-6 OT will be taken in the 1st round
leaving the guards mostly available in the 2nd round
this o-line class is strong (stronger than average IMO)
Its perfect for us

no the rounds aren't as important as quality for sure
but look at the niners D-line
you think they are best in the NFL with a bunch of 6th rounders?

If you get into the notion that you have to have all highly drafted OL, you don't get to have a high-end QB and therefore aren't in contention. Gotta find a few in rounds 3 to 7.

If it's about draft slot, get Corbett back, he was almost R1.

Of course you can find guys anywhere, that's true of every position, but the OL is going to be our highest priority moving forward unless something drastic changes.

That solidifies the OL as an early investment, before even accounting for tackles being a coveted positional grouping that get scooped up early.

I won't be shocked if our first rounder is a tackle, barring the opportunity to draft a beast on defence - although even that is starting to seem unlikely given our defence hasn't been awful.

(could be simmons LB clemson but I think he is a top 10 pick)

so many teams are screaming for OT help

this line has surprised me by how good it is
robinson the most
but we need an exceptionally strong line for this kid
we need 2-3 pro bowlers up in this be-ach

I think the O-line has suffered more of a scheme-&-Baker problem then most want to admit. When the scheme allows for TE4 to be one on one with Nick Bosa, guess who wins?

G-Rob is PPF's 22nd ranked OT. That's hardly bench-him material. Bitonio and Tretter are high-end. We do have a Kush and Hubbard problem - that's pretty easy to see.

I have no idea why we gave up 2 draft picks for Teller and haven't given him a shot.

Was there some O-line shake up coming I'm unaware about? Granted, I've been busy and haven't had time to research it - have just seen blips and blurbs.

Beast, I love you, dude... but you strawman like a champ. Your closing line was so close to asking why I hate America (!). Those are conversation burning lines that mean literally zilch.

I think it's highly likely we'll draft a lineman early, depending on what (if anything) we do at the trade deadline. It's the most likely first round pick. That said, I think our pick is going to be pretty low, like below 20. Day One starting LTs are generally found higher. I think we could very well draft our starting RT at 20-ish.

OL is not QB. All teams but especially the good ones who have to pay their great QB 30m a year (or they wouldn't be contenders) MUST find starters at non-prime positions in rounds 3-7 and that includes OL, especially those who aren't LTs. The cap demands it.

Until we draft only in the first round, like picks 10-17, we'll be drafting starters in later rounds. You lock in the core (popularly QB, WR1, EDGE, CB1, but then LT) and fill some positions with "good enough," which has become a personnel catchphrase.

Ocon's question is valid: When are we starting Teller? We traded TWO 2020 picks for a guard and that's a lot in craft capital, which is overvalued. I expect to see him Sunday but who knows?

On Forbes, the Browns, like everybody, look to score steals on the OL in later rounds. Forbes was a small school star and that's why he was available for "stealing." He was said to be a Campen pick and I love hearing that. He's a super athlete, like freaky, and the team really liked what they saw. Cutting Robinson for three days was indeed a weirdly risky move... and it was all about Forbes being eligible to come off IR and play this year.

Don't worry about what they say, pay attention to what they do. And their actions tell you what they think of Teller and Forbes.

EDIT: Oh, and Ocon? Agree. That's the line I would start, even though it was better when Hubbard returned. McCray was rushed in. Campen seems to love him and says a lot. My only hesitation is two new guys in the lineup against the Pats.

I might just switch out RG for now.
 
No changes in the depth chart, fwiw, so maybe the shake up is going to be some rotation.

I didn't expect to see it on the depth chart... but I do expect the one change (Teller). They were never gonna let the Patriots know.

If they bench Robinson but either Kush or Hubbard play, I'd like to have that explained to me. Robinson has just been flat out better in every way than the other two.
 
Bellichick is famous for his "find the turd" game. He'll run rough-shot over the right side of our O-line if we don't prepare - even if it's to simply max-protect.
 
Bottom line reality of the Browns OL:

- 2nd in NFL at 5.3 yards per carry.
- Basically tied for "the middle" with 8 teams allowing 15 to 17 sacks (we're at 16, tied with three teams at 15-17). Literally "average" as far as giving up sacks.

The line is not great. The line is not horrible. It's so-so.

I don't see GRob getting pulled for anybody except if he were part of a T Williams trade and Forbes were to replace Hubbard.

McCray is a guard and not a T. He might be able to fill in there, but he's not the long term answer. More of an emergency RT. Too bad we let our blocking TE's go cause we could really use a Orson Charles or Darren Fells to set a solid chip on the edge.
 
Teller trade was genius. Basically fixes the Corbett mistake with a better player who's shown it on the field already. With his monkey strength, seems very suited to RG. Hopefully he's a long-term piece.

It does indeed feel like something's up with Robinson. His actual performance doesn't deserve all this heat. He's played as well as last year or better. Kush and Hubbard? I get that.

  • Halapoulivaati Vaitai is 11th ranked GUARD on PFF, well, if he had enough snaps to qualify (57). 5th rounder from a few years back.
  • Nate Solder is in the 30's, around the Villanueva & Zues Jr range.

Everyone seems to think Vaitai would be a great trade for the Browns... except Pete Smith, who says he sucks. Weird. People been banging the table for weeks.

That said, we should make a move. In a weird way, I think it just looks good to the team, Dorsey out there caring about the season, the open window and all that. Vaitai would join Tretter and Forbes as possible young "solutions," now and moving forward.

The idea to get more physical makes sense to me. I think Campen et al looked at us as a pass first team because of Baker, OBJ, and Landry. But we're better when the offense runs through Chubb (and then Hunt, too), tees up play-action and longer-developing routes.

That said? We will HAVE to show the Patriots the pass. Gotta do it, gotta try to make them uncomfortable with their zero and man-to-man. Show them they can't cover the quick routes that way.
