The Offensive Line

Most so-so left tackles can become better RTs, generally facing lesser pass rushers. Tends to work best for guys who have the power game but aren't elite movers. Robinson does kinda feel like a RT waiting to happen.

If I read that the Browns had signed Robinson on a 1-year deal to compete, I'd be very happy. Draft an OT at 22 or after a trade-up, bring back Lamm and Forbes (that's a given), four legit candidates and good depth.

yes robinson has played RT

I've watched the O-line like a hawk
it should really be being yelled from the rooftops
how hard GR has worked this year(even since the first game)
for me he is the most improved player on the browns by far
oh yeah, stats are a thing.he has improved statistically and visually

teller? vs the steelers he looked terrible
vs the bengals he's elite
lets just hold off on the HOF for now
lets see If the kid can start in the NFL

Hubbard is the issue on the right side. Lamm started last week and Teller looked good as did Lamm. We need a LT and a RT and maybe we'll get lucky and Lamm could be our RT. It remains to be seen. Same for Teller, but Teller was already improving and pushing for a starters role at Buffalo so I have much more faith in Teller moving forward.

Hubbard could be our backup RT/RG next year.

Agree on Teller. He’s perfect “Campen clay”. Strong as an ox, prototypical OL personality, young, improving, and gives the Browns a shot at rolling into 2020 with IOL continuity.

Hall of fame? Nah. Front runner for RG1 in 2020? Let’s hope. He’s got a puncher’s chance.

And I’m pretty sure this has been posted before, but he’s clearly a “glue guy”:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">It was awesome to see how <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Browns?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Browns</a> G Wyatt Teller was greeted by his old <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/GoBills?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#GoBills</a> teammates after the game. <br><br>You can feel the bond & brotherhood here...glad he is in the Orange & Brown. <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/DawgCheck?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#DawgCheck</a> <br><br>&#55356;&#57253;: <a href="https://twitter.com/thadbrown7?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@thadbrown7</a> <br><br> <a href="https://t.co/kWoVTEQp3k">pic.twitter.com/kWoVTEQp3k</a></p>— BrownsAccess (@BrownsAccess) <a href="https://twitter.com/BrownsAccess/status/1193913462788968448?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">November 11, 2019</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

guys the browns o line isnt the problem especially at tackle . its scheme and the depth of bakers drops. Brett kollmann has a great video on youtube about it.

baker is 2 yards deeper than other qb's when dropping from the gun he likes space. the problem with that is the tackles cant win because of the terrible angles they are put in.

As long as he is 'consistent' at 2 yards deeper, it shouldn't be a problem. The T's need to adjust their first step angle. Every QB does things just a little different. The OL has to learn their QB's tendencies and make the appropriate adjustments.

Who's our O-line coach, and shouldn't this be his primary job? Protect the QB? One would think that this is all taken care of in the film room and at practice, therefore this line is well aware of Baker's tendencies come game time ;)

lol you can try but sorry when the DE doesn't have to flatten as hard to get to the QB when he is deeper in the pocket. the DE can just run around the tackle more than through him.

if baker was more shallow the tackle would just run the de out of the play behind the QB. i dont think baker is comfortable being in the pocket with defenders behind him so that could be a problem as well.

Really? So the T can't set up with the outside leg a bit further back, giving him a flatter facing towards the DE, forcing the DE to decide to go deep...in which case you just let his momentum take him beyond the QB, or try to undercut...in which case you have angle on his outside shoulder and can power him into the scrum?

You are correct that it is about the angles, but you are incorrect in that there are multiple ways to handle each type of set. In fact, you would play base as if you were playing a wide 9 defensive end. In wide 9, the DE is way outside of the T outside shoulder. The goal is to 'flatten' the rush (what you are saying is a goal of the T and a shallow drop). The T, in order to counter the wide 9, sets at an outside 45 angle, facing up on the DE...again, forcing a decision. Same blocking principle.

i am not some guy who is an O line junkie but my common sense would tell me a guy coming off the edge it would be easier to get to a point 10 yards behind the line rather than 7 yds. the difference between baker and bradys deep drops.

On the surface you are correct...assuming the OT doesn't make any adjustments.

I recommend this read, very informative:

https://www.sbnation.com/2016/11/25...best-offensive-linemen-joe-thomas-tyron-smith

It also has a reference to Joe Thomas being the best at Vertical drops. Having watched our OL this year, they are running mostly the 45...but occasionally doing the jump on the play action quick hitters. The key on the deep drops is to make sure the OT has 'inside help' from either G/TE/RB as his primary responsibility is to keep from getting beat wide.

Little confusing to me, because I read a lot about how Robinson actually suits Baker, plays like Orlando did, walks guys in a big circle and can't be bulled. Last year, it looked well choreographed with Baker often stepping up in the pocket as those edges were arcing harmlessly.

The Browns have two very high priced OL right now. They should get the biggest add on a rookie deal, so a first round pick. Teller, Forbes, and Lamm are bargains. Add another in R4.

I've grown a bit weary of defending G-Rob. I think he's a solid starter and we should keep him at least for another year... but I don't think that's the plan.

There is some wiggle room to be fair, but I've seen Hubbard get beat multiple times regardless of how Baker is setting up in the pocket. The Tackles are a problem as we've seen GRob go to the bench and Joe Thomas said a couple weeks back that Hubbard needs to sharpen his technique. SOme of it is defenses coming harder on the right side knowing that's where Baker has a high probability to escape the rush to. Blitzers will come to the right side and maybe run a stunt or a loop to catch the guard if he doesn't have his head on a swivel.

I can't believe you even have to try and explain that. Oh well, some things you just can't fix. It's pretty obvious to me that when a lineman gets beat at the snap, it doesn't make a damn bit of difference how far the QB drops back when the defensive player beats the QB to his spot. I wish guys would stop making excuses for these scrubs........
