2027 draft - a tale of two smiths

DTsmith will top all boards top 10 players from the jump.a legit #1DT in this draft If he adds weight.If not? DE.
WRsmith is already #1 consensus allround (manning will be #1 come april '27)
do we need a QB? can we smith this thing & win the draft?

I think we're done at DT after drafting Hall in the 2nd and Graham in the 1st round in back to back years. Especially if Malik Collins comes back to his old self, after his injury. Two very good DT's and a good rotational guy with Sam Kamara to boot as the 4th guy.

Outside of QB I'd be looking LT/RT. Again. I want quality depth there and it's far cheaper finding LT's & RT's in the draft and sign a guard than the other way around. Browns currently list Barber as a Tackle. Hope springs eternal.

This assumes Concepcion and Boston play well enough to start as well as Fano and E. McNeil-Warren.

It's never too early for 2027 draft talk.

QB will obviously be the talk of the draft. As of today [which could change just like last year] this is should be a deeper, more talented QB group. The guys that I am interested in tracking right now [in no particular order]:

- Arch Manning, Texas
- Dante Moore, Oregon
- CJ Carr, Notre Dame
- Drew Mestemaker, Oklahoma St
- Jayden Maiava, USC

I know there will be others folks talk about:
- Sellers, SCar: No thanks. No pocket awareness and very slow processor
- Mateer, Oklahoma: Arm isn't good enough
- Leavitt, LSU: has anybody actually watched him play?
- Chambliss, Ole Miss: System QB who has legs.
- Sayin, tOSU: nice accuracy... not enough arm for me
- Sorsby, TTU: You like gamblers?
- Brown, Auburn: No thanks... I like the forward pass.

FTR - Smith isn't even a Top 5 DT in the draft as of today. He's probably not even a top 30 DL as of today.

but not a fantastic DT draft so far tbh. FA only for DT/DE as drafting is near impossible
even the very best picks & players are busting DT/DE to a lesser extent OT.
compare those positions with slam dunk 1st rd picks at RB/WR/CB/OG.
jeremiah smith though or a top QB will be there & we'll be in the mix Im afraid
teams would offer owners grandchildrens #1' picks for J smith.

DT is really good at the top. Guys like Stone (might be best DL in entire draft), Holmes, Moten, Echoles and Washington are beasts. That's a really good group.

Smith is probably the 2nd tier of DT's now. Obviously he has a chance to improve his stock and move up in the rankings this season.
 
Almost on que... PFF came out with their to DT's for the 2027 draft 1 hour ago today. Looks like I nailed them yesterday.



1. David Stone, Oklahoma​

Big board rank: 9​

Stone has long been regarded as a future top-10 pick, and he proved why as a sophomore last year. He has the versatility to play as either a 1-technique or 3-technique interior rusher, with outstanding anchor and awareness against the run, as evidenced by his 80.7 PFF run-defense grade last year.

2. A.J. Holmes Jr., Texas Tech​

Big board rank: 13​

Playing on the same defensive line that boasts 2026 prospects David Bailey and Lee Hunter, it's easy to overlook just how impressive Holmes was last year. His PFF run-defense grade (88.1) ranked third among all interior defenders, while he also ranked sixth among defensive tackles in pressures (37). With many of his running mates off to the NFL, the question will be how Holmes can cope with increased attention in 2026.

3. A'Mauri Washington, Oregon​

Big board rank: 23​

Washington could have declared this past season and would have gone within the first two rounds. Instead, he'll return to Oregon in hopes of locking in a place in the first round next year. He's a freak athlete who could turn heads at the combine next year. On the field, his calling card is batting passes at the line – his eight batted passes led the FBS last season.

4. Will Echoles, Mississippi​

Big board rank: 32​

Echoles transitioned from one side of the trenches to the other only a few years ago. His production speaks for itself. He led all Power Four interior linemen in pressures (39) and defensive stops (35) last season.

5. Ahmad Moten Sr., Miami (FL)​

Big board rank: 55​

Moten's highest snap count from this past year came in the National Championship Game, when he was unable to lay a glove on Fernando Mendoza. Despite this, he had 10 multiple-pressure outings and fit right in on a defense flooded with NFL talent.
 
I'm hoping Sanders balls out like a bad ass so we can fill out other team needs. Even if Sanders does well we can still get a QB but we won't be pressured.

Teams will pay well for a good QB.

We all know that here.

It will be interesting to see if Cignetti was a product of Mendoza.. Or Mendoza the product of Cignetti... I will be watching with great interest.. I envision Mendoza as Kirk Cousins ceiling and not much more... I expect him to be average in the NFL.
