Braves fans were seen doing the tomahawk chop in the bottom of the ninth last night as they pimped
Braves gear with an Indian as part of their logo.
Not one complaint on SM or MSM about it. Nobody mentioned any protests at Braves games. None were shown.
All were carrying on without a care about the Guardians changed names and the Braves did not.
Braves fan here - obviously Guardians fan as well.
FTR - We don't have or 'pimp' an indian as part of the logo or on the uniform. You won't find it on any of our uniforms or hats.
And the new current citi connect.. the
best uniform in baseball....
When the Braves do a specific uniform or throwback with the Chief (which isn't often if ever) or do events honoring Indian tribes, it is endorsed by the
Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI): Principal Chief Richard Sneed has stated that he is not personally offended by the "Braves" name or the tomahawk chop, viewing them as an affirmation of "warrior spirit" rather than a slur. The EBCI has a partnership with the team, collaborating on cultural education and initiatives, such as
displaying Cherokee language on apparel.
The Tomahawk Chop was popularized and organized in 1991. Deion Sanders (who came to the Braves in 1989) claims he brought it over from Florida State. Florida State has the endorsement and partnership of the Seminole tribe in Florida.
Point being - there was never really much controversy because the Braves name & logo has the endorsement of a major Cherokee tribe. Florida State has the endorsement of a major Seminole tribe. The Indians went about it all wrong. They started to erase Chief Wahoo from their hats and uniforms and could have partnered with a tribe as well while using the C and coming up with something that honors them. Instead, they fought them the whole way then bent the knee to the liberal retards. Total organizational fail.
